《Iridescent (E. Cullen)》Chapter Seven

Zenaida is left to ponder the appearance of another with the ability of telepathy. Loki always made it seem like it was such a unique aspect of magic and even then it is rare to find. That Zenaida was a naturally gifted reader, the likes of which Asgard had never seen. Frigga was proud of that fact. And that's without years of experience behind her. But Frigga has taught her enough to protect herself from those with similar abilities. Those that can read the world around them. Telepaths, empaths, and other magical users. She can throw up a shield against them. It is a tough spell and takes constant vigilance and concentration. It can be exhausting. And she is already starting to feel it, without even attending her first class of the day. She might have to make a deal with that other telepath. She'll stay out of his head if he stays out of hers. It is a fair deal. She sighs as she looks up from her map and at the building in front of her. Trigonometry is her first class of the day. It's not exactly going to be fun, but it is a necessity. She lets out a breath and adjusts her bag strap. Being here, she realises how different she was treated on Asgard. As if she was already an adult. Being back here, she is a teenager. Frigga treated her as her granddaughter but also as her peer, a member of the court. Not as the fifteen, sixteen, seventeen-year-old that she is. Perhaps that was a mistake. She feels like a child. Having to go through all of this. Her musings are interrupted by the mention of her name. She blinks and turns to look around. Looking around for whoever it was that said it. They weren't calling to her but simply stating her name. Her eyes land on Jessica Stanley, Lauren Mallory, and Angela Webber. She knows them, but she's not friends with them. She was never friends with them. She concentrates on their conversation, she wants to know what they are talking about.
"Do you think she gave the baby up?" Lauren asks. "Had it adopted?"
"She was fifteen when she left, Lauren" Angela's voice reaches her. "It's been three years, if it was a pregnancy don't you think she would have been back before now?"

"Maybe Angela's right" Jessica mumbles in agreement.
"And Zen was never that girl" Angela adds. "She was sweet and kind...She went to live with her mom...that's it" Jessica and Lauren share a look before they walk away, talking among themselves. Angela takes a deep breath and shakes her head. She then turns around to go to class but pauses when she sees Zenaida close by. "How much of that did you hear?" Angela asks her softly.
"Only the important part" Zenaida counters with a soft smile. It meant a lot that at least someone doesn't believe those stupid rumours, and that someone is standing up for her. "Thank you, Angela"
"You remember me?" Angela asks her.
"I wasn't gone that long" Zenaida answers as she moves closer to her.
"No, I know, we just, we weren't friends before you left....." Angela reminds her. Zenaida shrugs a little. "How was Norway, right?" Angela asks her, and Zenaida nods.
"Yeah, Norway was good, different, but good..." Zenaida answers and then looks up at the building. "I've got Trig, so I should..."
"Oh, yes, of course, I will see you later though..." Angela assured her, Zenaida watches her and then walk away. She never had many friends. Not because she was incapable of making them, but she just never wanted them. She was fine on her own with just Charlie in her life. It was just the two of them for so long that she didn't need anything else, she didn't need anyone else. But then she went to Asgard, and she was alone. Maybe things should be different this time around. Maybe she can branch out. Make a few friends. With Bella around, Charlie isn't going to rely so much on her. Plus Angelia is a genuinely lovely person. Zenaida has never met anyone with such a pure soul. If she is going to start making friends, Angela would be a good place to start. She shakes her head and then enters the building in front of her.
........
It's a typical maths focused classroom that Zenaida finds herself in. Posters about 50 years old on the wall for different segments of the subject. It's a classroom. There is nothing inherently special about it. Just a room with desks and chairs. A prison for teenagers to waste away their days. Edward, Emmett, and Alice all share this class with Zenaida and they are all already in the room when she walks in, pulling off her jacket and hanging it up before she turns to look around the class. Her eyes land on Edward, Alice, and Emmett. She can get a good look at them now. The parking lot was too fleeting of a chance. And she was too freaked out by the aspect of their being another telepath. There are three of them, and it is clear that the three of them are together, there is just something about them, the way they are sat and the way they hold themselves around one another. They are together. Family. One of them is big....massive, huge, like Thor huge...muscled like a serious weight lifter, like an Asgardian God, with dark, curly hair. He's already looking at her. Leaning his head in his hand, elbow on the desk. Edward, the telepath, is taller, leaner, but still muscular, and honey blond. And a rather short girl, pixielike, thin in the extreme, with small features. Her hair is a deep black, cropped short and pointing in every direction. They are all strikingly beautiful. All of them share the same pale skin. Golden eyes. But it even goes deeper than that. Their features are perfect. Without any imperfections. Dazzling beauty. Designed like the Gods. The sort of appearances that wouldn't stand out in Asgard. Especially the big one. A warrior. Strong. Firm. Big. Even without reading his mind, she can read that on him. She's all but staring at him actually and he knows it. He's just as beautiful as the others. But there is something else about him. A softness to his face and features that the others lack. A warmth in his eyes. He smiles at her and raises his hand in a sort of wave. She catches herself as she goes to wave back at him. Shaking her head. Because she doesn't know this person. She only knows that this family is dangerous. She could feel that from Edward. Her eyes flicker to Edward who is, of course, watching her back. Caution in his eyes. She smiles, overly sweetly at Edward who is unsure how to respond. He is still working through what happened with her. But she seems to be very aware of the fact that it was him in her head. She then moves to the desk where Mr Varner sits waiting for her, he'd clocked her coming in. She holds out a slip of paper, meant to be signed to show that her teachers all welcomed her in. He motions to the front of the class.

"Why don't you introduce yourself?" He offers, she tilts her head, clenching her jaw. Not exactly what she was wanting out of this. She thought, with them being a small school, that they wouldn't force this on her. Alas, she is wrong. She lets out a breath and moves to the front of the class. "Class" Verner starts. "It seems with have a new student with us"
"Yeah, we all know who Zen is" A voice from the gathered students shouts. She is not sure who it belongs to. "Chief's daughter..." She finds the voice this time. Ben Chaney. Much like with Jessica, Lauren, and Angela, she knows him and his face, but not enough to call one another friends. "Norway was good for you, you look fantastic" Ben teases a little. Zenaida smirks and looks down. She knows she does. She matured in Norway. And this body reflects that.
"Be quiet, Chaney" Varner scolds and then turns to Zenaida. "Miss Swan" She gives him a look, Ben said her first name, him her last. Does she really need to introduce herself now? He nods. She sighs and turns to the class.
"Zenaida Swan" She offers. "Moved back from Norway...Hate trigonometry" She adds and then sends Varner a look. "Find it entirely pointless"
"Sit down" He mutters motioning to the empty seat next to Edward. She smiles, victorious before she moves towards the empty seat next to the Cullen boy.
