Matt had gotten a call from a coworker for him and Ross to head down to downtown Denver, which was about a thirty-minute drive. When Matt asked what the problem was, the answer was that it could involve the case. When Matt wanted further details, he was denied them. He was told to wait until he got there. The car ride over there had Matt thinking of a million different thoughts. When they arrived, police were already at the scene and an alleyway was blocked off. The men approached the scene where they were greeted by the first responder.

"I'm sorry to bug you guys but I was told to call you specifically. We got an anonymous call from a payphone saying a woman was killed in this alley. The caller said her name and then hung up. That's why we knew to call you." The man said, frowning.

"What the hell do you mean?" Matt asked, wrinkling his forehead.

"Just look for yourself." The man said, pointing the way, refusing to speak.

Matt thought the man was crazy, what was so bad that he couldn't just tell Matt what was going on? He ducked under the crime scene tape, with Ross right behind him. They walked down the alley until the end, where a pool of blood was surrounding the body. Matt's eyes traveled to the neck where it had been slit, managing to hit every major artery in the neck. Then what he saw next broke his heart into a million pieces.

Once Matt looked at the face of the woman, he realized why they had called him. In front of him laid his lifeless wife. She had been getting off from work since she was still in her navy blue scrubs. Tears filled Matt's eyes, unable to look away from her. His body was tense, almost paralyzed as he stared into her lifeless eyes. Despite the fighting between the two, he still loved and cared for his wife.

Then a single thought snapped him out of mourning and into pure panic. Kelly. He grabbed his phone and quickly dialed his house phone. Ross was examining the body while Matt called. The lines had been disconnected. He dialed her cell phone and was unsuccessful in reaching her. Tears streamed down Matt's face as he threw his phone down in rage.

"Ross, please come with me and see if my daughter is okay. She's not answering and my wife was supposed to be home with her." Matt said panicking.

Ross got in the driver's seat and drove Matt to his house as fast as he possibly could with sirens blaring and everything. When he reached the house, the lights were off. It was seven thirty, she wouldn't be asleep. Matt rushed up to the house and the door was unlocked already.

"Kelly! Kelly!" Matt yelled.

Ross rushed in while Matt was searching for his daughter. Matt knelt down after searching her room and everywhere else in the house except the basement since she rarely went down there. He found no trace of her. Kelly's book bag was in her room so Matt knew she had come home after school. She said Maddie was supposed to spend the night, so where were they?

"She's gone." Matt cried out.

Ross followed Matt down to the basement, just to make sure she wasn't down there. He turned on the lights and was horrified by what he saw. He saw a cloth and a trickle of blood on the carpet. Matt examined the cloth and smelt them, shaking his head from the strong, bitter smell.

"Chloroform." Matt said to Ross.

"I'll call a crime scene team to come here." He said pulling out his phone.

Matt couldn't believe everything that had happened in such a short period of time. He knew that as soon as he found this bastard who hurt his family, Matt would kill him. His wife was dead and his only child was missing. Tears fell from Matt's eyes as he processed what was happening. He wasn't ashamed of crying in front of his boss, he needed to release the guilt and sorrow building up inside of him. Matt couldn't stand to be in the house any longer, he rushed outside, letting the evening air fill his lungs.

About an hour later, there was police all over his house. Upstairs, downstairs, everywhere. The kidnapper had the police working day and night. There was the crime scene about Mrs. Hanks' daughter in front of the police station, the car from the kidnapper that he burned and stole a new car, Matt's wife's crime scene, and now Matt's own house. His whole life was becoming a large crime scene.

He wondered where his daughter was and if she was okay. He hoped that it wasn't her blood on the basement floor. Kelly had mentioned that Maddie was coming over, so was she taken as well? Matt took the time to quickly call Maddie's parents, telling them the horrific news. He could relate to their suffering as he told them. He could hear their heart broke sobs loudly over the phone. He assured them that he would do everything in his power to get their daughter back, as well as his own. Once he got off the phone with Maddie's parents, Ross approached him.

"Matt, go to the station and rest there. You need some rest." Ross said taking off his latex gloves.

"I can't Ross, my daughter is out there somewhere and I can't sleep until I have her back. Did you find anything else?" Matt asked.

"I really recommend you get some sleep, it has been a hard day for you. There was a car battery and wire in the bush next to your front door. We believe that it was used so she couldn't get out from the front door, it would shock her. The blood in the basement also belongs to Ethan." Ross said.

Matt couldn't help but feel relieved that it wasn't Kelly's blood, but that still didn't make anything better. His daughter was gone. Now, finding out that Ethan was with the girls, it was just another torturous phone call to make to Ethan's parents. Ross offered to make the phone call, knowing Matt was already mourning his own losses and having one of the worst days of his life.

"I'll go but I can't promise that I'll sleep." Matt said getting into his car. Matt left his house and drove to the station where he hopefully could clear his head. His baby girl had been kidnapped. Would he ever see her again?

After sitting in his car for a while, Matt decided to go inside the police station. It had taken him ten minutes to get there and another ten to finally go in. Once he was inside, a bunch of his coworkers apologized to him because of his daughter. He hated the 'I'm so sorry' and the 'we'll find her'. Matt went to find Kyle, needing to talk to his friend. He went to his office and he was sitting in there looking at some paperwork. Once he saw Matt, he stopped what he was doing. As soon as he saw Matt, Kyle stood up and hugged his friend as he mourned.

"Matt I heard about Kelly. That's terrible. I not going to say sorry or that we'll find her because I know you keep hearing that from everyone else. I know that it doesn't help. Just think, she can defend herself. She's a strong girl who is smart. We both know she will be fine, we've prepared her for situations like this. That bastard won't get away with this." He said angrily as Matt sat down in a chair across from Kyle.

"Kyle, I don't know what to do. My wife is dead and my daughter is missing." He said as he started to cry.

"I lied to you because now I have to say that we are going to find her. Trust me Matt; we have the best people looking for her. I want this bastard caught just as much as you do. I love Kelly just as much as you do." Kyle said.

Matt nodded and sat with his eyes closed trying to think of what to do. He missed his wife and daughter. Sure, his wife and him fought a lot but he still loved her. If Kelly died, he could never live with himself. He had told her that he would always protect her; now look at her, she's missing. He stood up and walked to the door before turning back to Kyle.

"Kyle, I can't just stay here while my daughter is locked up by this creep. I need to be working to find her." Matt said leaving before Kyle could say anything to stop him. Matt went to Detective Ericson. He was in charge of the Faith Hanks case currently. The crime scene had been cleaned up and the body was in the morgue.

"Ericson, how's the case coming, you find anything?" Matt asked.

"We've found nothing. This guy is so clean and organized. There was not a single print or hair or anything. The medical examiner said that she wasn't raped, just shot once in the head. The letter he wrote had no prints and is written in sloppy handwriting, making us believe that it's not the true handwriting of our killer. It is barely legible." He said filling out some paperwork. He ran his hand through his brown hair and looked up at Matt. His blue eyes were bloodshot and he looked really tired.

"This guy is good." Matt said and Ericson nodded.

Matt got in his car and took off for the rest stop to see if they found anything else. When he got there, the crime scene investigators were cleaning up. The car was being towed to the police station. I walked up to Detective Clear. She was in charge of this investigation.

"Hello, Detective Hunter." She said.

"Have you found anything else?" Matt asked.

She frowned and shook her head no. Matt sighed and felt hopeless. All they had found was a wig hair and some glue, basically telling us he is in a disguise. Matt thanked her for her work and for her to let him know if they find anything else. He got back in his car and drove to his wife's crime scene. When he got there, the crime scene tape was still up but the body was gone. Matt walked up to Detective Robbins. She was writing down information so she may have found something.

"Hello, Robbins." Matt said walking up to her, tears in his eyes.

"Matt, you shouldn't be here." She said, touching his shoulder and comforting him. Robbins and Matt had been friends ever since Robins joined the force. Robbins was one of Matt's closest friends at the station. Kyle and Robbins would be the two people to help Matt through this hard time since Matt had no one else at this point.

"I need to know what you have. Please tell me. What happened to my wife?" Matt begged.

She hesitated but said, "Fine. Her throat was slit and was left to die in the alley. The killer must have figured out a way to draw her down the alley, maybe calling for help since she was a nurse. This guy knew what he was doing." She said.

"Any evidence?"

"We have found some footprints but no fingerprints." She said.

Matt was a little happy because this was the first lead they had. He knew it wouldn't be that helpful though. Matt wondered if this was the same guy who took Kelly. Maybe he didn't want Kelly's mom coming home when he kidnapped Kelly. The thought made him sick to his stomach. He prayed that it wasn't a random occurrence and that his wife of all people was randomly murdered. He wanted the killer to pay.

"Thank you, Robbins." Matt said smiling.

"I'm really sorry; I'm here for you if you need anything." She said as he walked away.

He got in his car and drove to his house. Ross may have something because this guy was getting lazy. When a criminal gets lazy, that's how they get caught. He pulled up and Ross was outside. He gave Matt a 'get out of here' look.

"What the hell are you doing here Hunter? I told you to go get some rest." He demanded.

"I can't just go and sleep when there is work to be done. Let me help." Matt pleaded.

"Damn it, Matt. Fine, go in the basement and help search the place for evidence." Ross demanded.

Matt obeyed and quickly went to the basement. He could already imagine the scene, he was standing right in the doorway of the living area and the kids were behind the couch since there was no other place to hide. He had been told there were scratch marks coming out from behind the couch saying that someone was dragged out behind there. The blood had belonged to Ethan and Matt assumed the blood was caused by a fight. Matt was ready to spend hours looking for clues on where his little girl was. He would stop at nothing to find her.
