《My Best Friend》Chapter 28 ~ Memory Lane Propaganda

"Turn to the left...now to the right. Give me that sexy, suave you know you want me look," the photographer said. I was doing a photo shoot for the league's Hottest Football Quarterbacks calendar. I was selected as Mr. June. I was dripping wet and pretending to be coming out of the ocean. My hair was slicked back, I was shirtless and I put on my boy next door sexy smile.

"I think that's a wrap Sean, thanks."

"No problem." I put my robe on and headed for the dressing room.

"Nice shoot," Shae said walking up to me. I rolled my eyes walking in the room.

"What in the hell do you want? How did you even know I was here?"

"Must we do this every time we see each other? You told me you would be here."

"That's a lie. You are like a wart that won't go away. I really don't have patiences for you right now."

"Look since being pregnant I've had to refigure things out. It's amazing when you're pregnant you start to look at things differently."

"What are you talking about?"

"Since it seem that you and I are not going to be together, I have to take care of me and this baby so I got a job."

A fit of laughter came over me.

"Are you starting a professional company? Like Golddigger USA? Are you going to teach other women how to trick rich men into having babies so they are bound to their will? Or will it be WHORE International? Where you sell young men the dream of having a beautiful woman on their arm and then have them suck their sugar daddy's dry?"

"You know, trying to have a decent conversation with you is like talking to a wall."

"Really? Then I shouldn't be entertaining you. Fine, what will you be doing?" I said leaning against the wall.

"I have a fashion blog."

I covered my mouth covering my laughter. She looked pissed.

"You think that's going to pay the bills?"

"I have some sponsors plus once it grows, I expect a lot more money coming in. For now it will be enough to take care of our child. I figured you would help support this baby where I wouldn't have to struggle. This baby will need the both of us. With your busy schedule he or she will need one constant parent and that will be me."

"Stop Shae!" I raised my hand. "You're a joke. When was the last time you had a real job? Oh that's right when you were screwing me and your ex. You wanted to make him jealous by being with me."

"See I knew you had actually fallen for me. I still love and care about you Sean." She wiped a tear away.

"Wait, that's where all this hatred stems from because of me cheating? I'm truly sorry I hurt you baby. I made a mistake. I have apologized many times for that. Do you want me to get on my knees and beg for your forgiveness?"

She got on her knees but I made her get up.

"You're right you did screw up but I'm over you. Your screw up caused this. If you really cared about me like you say you do, why put this baby on me when you know deep down its his? We always used protection. Why did you do it? Why were you sleeping with him and sleeping with me at the same time? I couldn't give you what you needed?"

"I was stupid Sean. He meant nothing to me. He kissed me and then...it just happened. If I could rewind back to that night, I wouldn't have done it."

"But you did it. I've never cheated on anyone and that includes you. I respected you enough not to do that to you but you didn't give me the same respect. Then on top of that you come to me and tell me you're pregnant. Do you know how many players I know that their girlfriends do some crazy shit to guarantee a payday? I basically gave you anything you wanted, but you messed up the program."

"Sean what do you want me to do? I used protection with him, I didn't with you so you need to get use to the fact that this is your baby. I said some mean things about that night but I didn't mean it. I was upset and wanted to get back at you."

"I still have no tangible evidence that you are carrying my child but your word, which means nothing."

She slapped me. I touched my cheek. Count Sean before you beat her ass, my inner self whispered.

"Seriously Sean?"

Three, two, one, deep breath.

"How do I know that you and that doctor are not working together?"

She looked appalled that I would even suggest that. Her facial expression turned ugly. She looked mad.

Good!

"You told Michael you didn't believe I was pregnant so he suggested this doctor not me. Think about it, this doctor is legit, he's the OB/GYN to the stars, do you really think he would lie? People always want to blame other people for their failures," she said with a chuckle.

I looked at her. Mike wouldn't be in on this game. I told him about Shae and he was the one that did recommend this well known doc.

"How dare you accuse me of everything that goes wrong in your life. You and Michael were trying to say I was faking this pregnancy. I told you I was pregnant. This doctor doesn't even know me. Why would he lie about a pregnancy or any results? Shit, you were in the room when he did the ultrasound and you heard the heartbeat. How in the world would he be able to fake a heartbeat? Gawd I want to hate you, but I still love you."

"You don't love me. You love my wallet."

"You know what, you are the biggest asshole," she said starting to cry. She took a seat on the sofa and put her face in her hands.

"Should I mention Ausef Banda."

She held on to her heart whipping her head up.

"Who is he? A lover, your baby daddy, your coconspirator, who is he Shae?"

"He was my doctor. How do you know him?"

"Did you not visit him some weeks ago? Did you plan your little charade with him?"

"He was the one that confirmed my pregnancy if you must know."

"So why isn't he your doctor then? I looked up this Ausef guy and he's up and gone. His practice is now closed and he is nowhere to be found."

She looked uncomfortable. "Hell if I know? It's none of my business what he does." I could hear anger in her voice. She looked even more pissed off.

"What's wrong Shae you look angry?"

She rolled her eyes at me, got up and walked towards the window.

"Maybe this isn't your ex's baby but his. Was he upset that this was his baby and you are trying to pin it on me? Why would he suddenly leave town soon after you visited him?"

"I said I have no idea. You and your conspiracy theories."

I walked over to her. "I heard you went to his office dressed like a tramp. You walked in perfect then walked out like he had given it to you really good. What do you have to say about that?" I folded my arms.

"Who told you that? The last guy I slept with was you. As a matter of fact the last time we had sex was on the trunk of your car. Remember how you told me how good I was and that you loved me?"

"You were a real good screw. I do remember that night," I said narrowing my eyes at her. She had been playing with my johnson on the ride home and it had turned me on. I pulled over in some bushes on somebodies private property and laid it on her. She had called out my name over and over again. She ended up with a burn on her leg from where it rubbed against the metal of the car.

"Ugh! So telling me that you loved me all those months ago were a lie?"

"If I ever told you that, I must have been F'uped or trying to get in your panties."

She looked shocked and hurt. Did she really think I could ever love her? Well maybe I could have grown to but I knew what she was truly about. Her cheating gave me a real reason to end it. We had fun, the sex was hot, but turning a whore into my wife wasn't going to happen.

I looked down at her. "The truth hurts doesn't it? Why don't you go be with your real baby daddy and we chalk this whole relationship as a bad nightmare. You walk away and no harm done."

I walked over to my bag and pulled out a contract I had my lawyer draw up a few days ago. It was basically paying her off if she left me and Lizzy alone. She couldn't come back to hurt Lizzy or press charges regarding the fight. If the baby was mine, I would support the child only and a stipend would be given and I would have the right to visitation. If the baby wasn't mine, she would payback all funds provided and I would sue for defamation of character as word was circulating about this pregnancy.

"What is this?"

"A contract. If the baby is mine, I will provide a stipend and I want visitation. If the child is not mine, I will sue you for defamation of character and you will payback all money given or used on this pregnancy. Also there is a stipulation that you will not press charges or ruin Lizzy's career. You sign it and all is happy with the world."

She stared at the contract.

"On the second page there is a place where I can simply write in an amount for your so called emotional state. I'm sure carrying my child and me not wanting you has devastated you. So how much will it cost me for you to go away? And by the way this is your last chance to come clean so you may want to sign."

She shook her head looking at me with big cloudy tears ready to pour down as soon as she blinked.

"I'm pregnant for christsakes. I can prove this is your baby. It's not about the money. We are bringing a child in this world together." She put my hands on her stomach. I instantly jerked back.

"Call me what you want but I'm the mother to your first child not Lizzy. This is your baby Sean and soon the doctor will reveal that to you. As far as this document I'm not signing it. I have nothing to hide. Lizzy comes after me, she will be sorry."

"You're right, we will find out soon enough at your next appointment. Leave Lizzy out of this, you don't start anything then she and I won't have to finish it."

"That's right your precious Lizzy can't do any wrong. She throws rocks and hides her hands, but her mighty bodyguard stands up for her anyway. She is perfect in every way. Last I heard she chose Aries over you. You poured your heart out to her and she tossed it away. Can't you see she chooses Aries over you."

"I swear if you don't stop talking..."

"What are you going to do?"

I sucked in my breath. Her words were worse than her slap.

She slid the contract on the table.

"You're testier than a pregnant woman. They do say that the father can get pregnancy mood swings. I can't believe I've one up'ed Lizzy."

"Get out!" I yelled.

"You always want to blame me for stuff. Is it my fault you're potent? Is it my fault that God blessed us with this tiny person? Is it my fault that Lizzy chose her man over you? And is it my fault that your agent recommended this doctor? Who told you that I was pregnant after I told you I was?"

I narrowed my eyes at her. I wanted to strangle her.

"I had big dreams once. I wanted to be a professional classical trained ballet dancer. I would travel the world and perform in front of the biggest audiences around. I would play Sleeping Beauty, Odette from Swan Lake or even Cinderella," she said wiping a tear away.

"I never should have come to this place. Ever since I got here, trouble has followed me everywhere. Instead of a prosperous career I ended up with a baby," she started to cry harder.

I couldn't feel sorry for her. She was an evil, twisted bullshitter. Why should I feel sorry for a woman that has manipulated me since the first time I met her?

She sat on the sofa wiping away her tears. "I'm sorry, I so sorry for putting you in this predicament. You truly are a nice guy Sean. I can see why Lizzy loves you."

I narrowed my eyes at her and bit the inside of my jaw. As God as my witness I wanted to grab her and shake the shit out of her.

"You love Lizzy more than anything in this world. I see it in your eyes and every time you say her name. I don't think no other woman could ever come close."

I folded my arms and didn't say a word. It was true but I didn't need her to know that.

"Myself nor any other woman could ever own your heart the way she does. I wish a man loved me the way you love her."

"Shae I have to go and you need to leave. Our business is finished."

My phone started to ring, it was my attorney James Welch.

"Hey James."

"I have your contracts ready. I've made tabs on each of the new ones and the ones in the back are your annual renewals. Karen is in labor and I'm meeting her at the hospital, so I was wondering if I could drop them off."

"Yeah, sure. I just finished a photoshoot. I'm at the Bellman Tower."

"I can have a runner there in about twenty minutes."

"Okay, I have a little time. I'll stay here until he comes."

"Thanks Sean."

I hung up walking over to the sofa to take a seat. I saw Shae staring at me.

"Can I help you with something?"

"I'm hoping to have a boy. I hope he has your good looks and talent. Could you imagine a little mini you walking around?"

"I rather not talk about this right now. You just need to sign the contract."

She got up from the chair and walked over to me. She bent down on her knees and put her hands on my legs.

"Shae?"

"I remember when we were good together. Remember all the fun we use to have? When I met you I saw this spark that attracted me to you. I kept saying you were different. You didn't treat me like my exes, you treated me like a person. Even when Lizzy attacked me, you comforted me. I'm not a bad person."

"Shae I don't love you and I never will."

"I'm not asking for you to love me. I want us to be the best parents to this child. He or she will need us both and I just need to know if you are willing to be here when it's born."

"Ok I will humor you. I will handle my responsibilities concerning this child if its proven to be mine. You and me will co-parent but as far as us getting together, it's not happening. Keep your Memory Lane propaganda, I'm not interested," I said getting up.

I heard her take a deep breath and she got up.

"I fell for you because you were sweet and kind. Evidently it's not enough for Lizzy because if that was the case she would be the one pregnant. Can't you see you two will never be in a relationship as more than friends? I'm carrying your baby and I do love you Sean. Just give me a chance and I can prove it to you."

"Shae I'm sorry but I don't love you and I will never love you the way I do Liz. Stop trying. Shut up about it already. You're talking in circles. Your voice annoys me. Take a hint, I DON'T WANT YOU, TAKE A HIKE!"

"Do you love this baby?" she asked rubbing her stomach.

"Here we go again. Why am I even entertaining you? For the last time, you created this spectacle. Did you think I was just going to let you play me? Oh the dumbass white boy won't know the difference? Boo I'm smarter than that. You may have won the battle but I damn well know for sure that I will win the war."

She laughed. "I've apologized again and again including today. It's over, I'm here now. But that's right you rather chase a woman that can never be yours for a woman standing right here ready to be yours."

I walked up to her but stopped mere inches in front of her. My fingers were tingling to wrap them around her neck but I stopped myself.

"When I met you, you belonged to nobody and now you still belong to no one. If you want someone to love you, try loving yourself first instead of trying to latch on to me. I don't want you and never will. Why don't you just leave? Oh by the way, I want a DNA test on your next visit and I want it sent to a lab of my choice. I want the results sent to my attorney where he will read the results with you and I in the room."

"My doctor can do it. Why go outside where someone can publicize it to the papers?"

"Because I don't trust your doctor."

"He's one of the best in the country."

"Then he will follow my wishes and do the test and send to an outside agency."

"This is ridiculous Sean."

"What's ridiculous is this conversation. I need to change so it would be best if you leave."

"Oh my god you make me sick sometimes. I'm trying here and you just keep coming at me for no reason."

"I have a reason, that baby that is inside of you. You trying to push it off on me for a payday but it won't go down like that."

"You know what? I hope she says yes to Aries marriage proposal leaving you all alone."

"What?"

"Oh you didn't know?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Word on the street is that she's in Atlanta for his Fan Day and he's going to propose to her. He even invited his parents to be witness."

"You're lying!"

"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not."

I could feel my pressure about to erupt. I went looking around for my phone but I must have left it on the set.

"You're just trying to start mess."

"Okay if that is what you think," she said smiling as I walked out.

Well, well, well, I tried to play nice but it didn't work. I had to bring out the big guns. A friend of mine is a friend of one of Aries teammates and he had let the cat out of the bag. He was going to do it big at Fan Day and propose to Lizzy. He was going to propose on the big jumbo screen in front of the fans and knowing Lizzy, she wouldn't embarrass him. She would suck it up and take the bait.

Hell if she didn't want him, I would take him. That thick piece of fineass grade A probably could lay it down like nobodies business. And that bald head was sexy as hell.

There was a knock on the door taking me out of my thoughts.

"Come in."

A young guy with a satchel across him walked in.

"I'm here to deliver some paperwork for Mr. Gipson."

"Yes he's expecting them. He had to step out for a moment but I can give it to him."

He reached me over the papers. I tipped him a twenty and he walked out.

The brown envelope was sealed with tape that could easily be opened. I carefully pulled it apart and inside were contracts and a jumpdrive. His attorney had everything labelled. I glanced through them. Damn Sean was making major bank.

Three million for his deodorant endorsement, four million for some cereal campaign and five million for underwear. His new ones totaled another eight million for GYD cellphone, providing appearances and commercials at a string of restaurants. The new ones had comments on sticky notes. I quickly grabbed the contracts that were in my purse and slid them in with the old ones.

I heard him on the phone and I fixed the tape and put them on the table. I sat down and grabbed a magazine with a banana.

"Hold on," Sean said to whoever he was on the phone with while walking through the door.

"You can leave," he said talking to me.

I grabbed my purse.

"Don't forget my next appointment. I would hate to pull out my Lizzy card."

He narrowed his eyes at me. I could literally see steam coming from his ears. I might have overstepped so maybe it was time for me to go. I quickly walked out rushing through the front door jumping in my car waiting on his next move.
