《My Best Friend》Chapter 27 ~ I'm Not...

The plane had just landed and I went through the tunnel. Grabbing my overnight case I took the elevator down to baggage claim. Coming down I saw Aries with the biggest smile on his face. I knew it was him even in the sunshades and baseball cap. He had a bouquet of flowers in his right hand and a box of chocolates in the other. I smiled back and before I could get close two young girls stopped me.
"Oh my gosh, you're Elizabeth Johnson the lady from the magazines, posters and billboards."
I had no idea what she was talking about until she pulled out the magazine with Sean and I in it.
"It's you," the tween said clapping while her friend pulled her camera phone out.
"Can we get a picture, can you sign my magazine? Do you really know Sean Gipson, he's so dreamy?"
"Yes I know him."
"My name is Rhonda and this is my best friend Taylor. Can we take a pic with you?"
I looked up and saw Aries snickering.
"Sure. Let's take a selfie."
Rhonda passed me her camera phone and I took a couple of pics with my new fans. I signed their magazine and they gave me a hug and skipped off towards their parents.
"Supermodel...you betta work it girl," Aries said coming up towards me.
"Funny."
He gave me a hug and went in for a kiss but I turned my face a little and put it on his chest. I hadn't been feeling well since last night and I was sure he didn't want to taste the remnants of my crawfish tamales I kept burping up.
Really I blame the tears for being the tamales accomplice, especially finding out that broke down mountain wanch was pregnant. I still couldn't get over it.
"No kiss? Did you not miss me? I brushed my teeth just for you, see." He pulled me back smiling like a Cheshire Cat. I laughed.
"Of course I do. We shouldn't do it in public and I'm starting not to feel so well. Last night I had some spicy crawfish tamales and they haven't been agreeing with my stomach."
I should have broken up with him on the phone last night and stayed in my bed. Damn I could hear my stomach growling and aching as it was about to blow.
I pulled out of his embrace. In my head I was thinking how great it would have been snuggled up in my thick comforter sleeping away whatever I had.
He looked down and checked my forehead. "No fever." He leaned in for a kiss and I moved all the way out of his embrace.
"You can't mess up my make-up, as you can see I have fans." Technically if there were cameras, I didn't want pictures getting back to Sean.
"Oh so it's like that now. A little recognition and it goes to your head."
"Excuse me, but let me enjoy the moment. Hater, you're just mad that you are incognito and I'm supermodel Iman. Hate the playa not the game," I said holding my stomach.
"Seriously Lizzy you don't look so good you look a little flush."
My face felt damp and my stomach was twisting and turning. I felt fine until the plane landed and then I knew I had to face Aries to break up with him and now my stomach was ruining that. I didn't want to hurt him but I think my nerves were getting the best of me too. I saw the women's restroom and headed straight for it. Of course they would have a line. Do they not know this was a bustling airport? I saw the family restroom and headed straight for it.

I closed the door and looked in the mirror. I was sweating, my skin looked pale and all I wanted to do was barf. So I did and of course it didn't make me feel better. I cleaned up and headed back towards Aries.
"You look worse," he said checking my cool forehead.
"No shit Sherlock, I should have stayed home."
"Sit here and let me get you some water." He walked away and I heard my phone beeping. I picked it up out of my purse and it was from Jason, the photographer saying the photoshoot in Hawaii was cancelled due to the weather. They were closing down the airport due to severe storms hitting the coast and that he would be in touch with another date. Just great.
I texted my mother to tell her and she texted me right back saying she hadn't booked and that she probably wasn't coming to LA because she wasn't feeling good either. That was odd because when she dropped me off at the airport this morning she was fine.
Wait maybe...ah hell, we probably have food poisoning. I had a feeling eating those crawfish tamales from that food truck probably wasn't sanitary. It looked cleaned and now I was paying for it. I gripped the side of the chair as my stomach rumbled in knots.
"Drink this," Aries said opening up a bottle of water and I drank it down like I hadn't had liquids in a while. The coolness felt good going down but the heaviness totally didn't agree with my stomach.
"Lizzy can you make it to the car?"
"I think so."
"I can call my doctor to meet us at the house so he can see what's wrong with you."
"I think I got food poisoning. I just texted my mom and she is going through the same thing."
"There is a bench by the baggage carousal, if you sit there I can grab your bags. They are purple right?"
"Yes with gold ribbon tied to the handles."
He helped me up by taking my purse and overnight bag. We made it to baggage claim and he called someone on his phone. He grabbed my luggage and we walked out in the southern heat where an uniform driver was waiting. The driver grabbed my bags while Aries and I got in the car.
"Here, come and lay your head on me."
"Don't you try nothing funny or I will barf on you."
"First of all I wouldn't try anything in your condition and secondly please barf on the floor."
"I will just lay my head on the cool glass." I laid my head back and closed my eyes. By the time I woke up we were pulling up in his driveway.
The house was absolutely gorgeous. The huge white columns and red brick definitely classified this as a Southern Mansion. It looked to be three stories, with a manicured lawn, beautiful landscaping and a circular driveway.
"Welcome baby to my home."
I gave him a little smile and got out the car. He helped my out and unlocked the door. My boy had taste. It was professionally decorated with enough room to roller skate without bumping into things. As he gave me a tour, I could tell most of the rooms were off limits or he never used them. The house felt a little cold unlike Sean's house.
"I will take your things up. Make yourself at home. The bathroom is the first door to your left."

"Okay."
I watched as he walked up the grand staircase with my bags. I rubbed my stomach as it was still flaring up. Oh oh I found myself running to the bathroom.
"My doctor should be here shortly," he said as I walked out the bathroom. I went over to the couch.
"Wait not in there. I will take you to my mancave down below or bedroom."
"What's wrong with me being in here?"
"Just in case you have to you know, it would be much easier to deal with it downstairs or up. White is so hard to clean up."
"First of all, I'm not nine years old. I know how to walk or run my ass to the bathroom." Was he for real? He was really starting to piss me off.
"So when you get sick, you drag yourself all the way to the man-cave?"
"Or I stay in bed."
"Maybe I shouldn't have come."
"Nonsense."
I ran back to the bathroom and slammed the door. Not only was I sick but I had had enough. Who in the hell would have an all white room? A house is suppose to be lived in not admired through a hallway. Was he getting ready for Better Homes and Garden's next magazine cover? Black folks could really be crazy with crap like this. Hell he should have just put plastic all over the room.
I sat on the toilet and dialed.
"Hey Lizzy Bear."
"I don't want to be here, I hate it here."
"Where are you?"
"At Aries house. I came for Fan Day today and I'm sick. I think I have food poisoning and he is no where to coming close of taking care of me. I'm the one that is sick. I ought to puke all over his white room. I feel like I can't even walk around. He's trying to confine me to his old stanky bedroom or his man-cave, old punkass."
I heard laughter on the other end of the line.
"You are always mean when you're sick and grouchy. You probably just need some rest and take some pepto-bismol."
"He's mean."
"Oh no that's your man. He's not mean let you tell it."
"Shut up Sean. You are not making this situation better."
"Just relax. Drink plenty of fluids and go lay down. Are you still coming to LA?"
"If I'm not passed out somewhere."
"Are you going to make it to the photoshoot tomorrow? I heard a storm is coming."
"Jason cancelled it so no."
"Good. I would be in panic mode if you were still going."
"At least someone cares about me."
"Always."
I started to cry. I wanted to go home. I hated being sick, it sucked. Why was I crying? My hormones seem to be all over the place.
"Lizzy are you okay in there?" I heard Aries say through the door. I put my hand on the phone.
"Yeah!" I called out. My stomach rumbled and I took my seat. I needed to relieve the pressure.
"Liar, liar," Sean said on the other end. "Are you in the bathroom, oh God was that an atomic bomb. All personnel take cover a big one is coming."
"Shut...the hell up! Ah hell I got to go," I said hanging up and tossing my phone. I swear if I died on the toilet I would be the laughing stock of my peers.
I finally was able to finish and get up. I felt like I was close to death. I turned on the vent and washed my hands. I walked towards the kitchen where I heard voices. I stopped when I heard them mention AJ. Wait AJ was the little boy from Baton Rouge that Aries had taken to.
"He's a sweet kid. Seems very smart," a deep voice said that wasn't Aries.
"You better do your part. Maybe you could take full custody because that mother of his is bad news. She's getting impatient with you. I could hear it in the conversation," a female chimed in.
"She'll probably make up some lie about how things happen and it could ruin your reputation. Did you know the little skank was trying to come back with us?"
"Your mother put her in check and told her no," the man said.
"She wasn't happy about either," a younger woman said. "I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't make a surprise visit over here."
"That won't happen especially with Liz here. If she tries anything, she will lose too much," Aries said.
"Where is Liz?" the woman asked. "I want to meet her."
"She's sick. She thinks she may have food poisoning."
"Poor girl. Maybe I should fix her some toast and take her some coconut water you have in the refrigerator. That should help until she can eat a little something."
"She's been in the bathroom forever. We need to be gone in a hour. I can't show her off, she might puke on somebody. This was suppose to be a good day, she's ruining it with this so called food poisoning stunt."
"Do you think she's faking?"
"I don't know. Sometimes she can be a drama queen," Aries said about me.
I put my hand on the corner of the door and took a deep breath. Did this mofo just call me a drama queen? Oh he haven't seen me act a fool. I walked into the kitchen.
"Hey baby," he said walking up to me. I looked around to see two ladies, one older and an older man.
"Guys this is Lizzy, Lizzy these are my parents and niece."
"Glad to meet you. I've heard so many good things about you all."
His mother was fair complexed. She was pretty and seemed so motherly. His father was tall like him, dark skinned with a goatee. His niece looked to be in her teens with big brown eyes.
They all smiled as Aries pulled out the barstool next to him.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Better, thanks for asking. Oh what time is Fan Day?"
"Are you going to be able to make it? Aries said you have food poisoning," his mother asked.
"I'm feeling better already. I will just take some crackers with me. I'll be fine, I think the worst of it is over."
"Are you sure? I can stay with you," his mom offered.
"Mom you've never missed a Fan Day."
"Someone has to watch her if she's sick."
"I'm fine. I know this is a big day for Aries and I want to support him." I kissed him on the cheek and rubbed his back. He smiled looking down at me.
"I better get ready."
"Oh I have a surprise for you," Aries said looking at me. He seemed over excited and grabbed my hand. He led me up the stairs and into a huge bedroom. My suitcases were in a huge closet and the sun was beaming through the two tall windows on each side of the bed.
He walked me to the bed where he had a dress, with heels and a very expensive handbag on the side.
"I picked it out, so I hope you like it."
"I was going to wear your jersey. It is Fan Day isn't it?"
"You will be in the Owner's Box, why would you wear a jersey?"
"To show my support for you, duh."
"I'm glad you are supporting me, but could you please wear this instead. There will be sponsors and very important people and I need you to look your best."
"You do realize I'm sick."
"The doctor should be here any minute."
"I am a doctor."
"I don't want to argue about this. My parents are downstairs and this is not the time to start something."
"You're right," I said walking over and grabbing my suitcases.
"Where are you going?"
"Home."
"What?"
"I said going home." I grab my purse but he blocked the door.
"No you're not. You are going to get dressed, and we are leaving."
"Who do you think you're talking too?"
"Lizzy please," he said gritting his teeth.
"No one talks to me any kind of way."
"I'm sorry. Please Lizzy can you just do this for me?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. I needed to end this.
"I've been thinking..." I was cut off by a knock on the door.
"Come in," he yelled out.
A tall dark headed man came in with a doctor bag. He had gray hair on the sides and he looked freshly tanned.
"This is my personal physician Derick Nelson. This is Elizabeth, my girlfriend," he said introducing me. We shook hands and nodded.
"Aries tells me you think you may have food poisoning?"
"I think so. I had some seafood from a food truck yesterday. My mom is suffering too back home."
"Let's have a look. Aries can you give us a moment?"
"Sure doc." He walked out closing the door.
"Can you raise up your shirt for me? I want to examine you."
"Okay."
He washed his hands and put on a pair of gloves. He came back and felt around. I felt a little pressure around my mid-section. I wanted to puke.
"There is some tenderness. Do you think you maybe pregnant?"
I laughed. "Of course not."
"When was your last cycle?"
I sat up from the bed. "Like last month...wait yeah last month."
"Are you sure?"
"Look, I practice safe sex. I have an IUD and I use condoms. Double protection so I couldn't be."
"Do you mind if I take a look?"
"Whatever, fine but I'm not."
I laid back on the bed and let him examine me.
"It slipped out."
"Excuse me?"
"Your IUD has slipped out of place. Have you gained or loss weight recently?"
"I haven't paid attention to it. I work long hours."
Oh no, Carolyn my OB/GYN told me weight gain or loss can effect it along with other factors. Ah man I could have an infection, dang it!
"Aries told me you were an orthopedist."
"I am."
"You know doctors make the worst patients."
"Look, are you sure it's not in its place?"
"I can remove it. It's not fitting in the cavity where it needs to be."
"Are you equip to do that?"
"I'm family medicine and I did an internship in obstetric and gynecology at UCLA. I can do it or you can go to a hospital."
"Fine. Go ahead."
"Lay back."
I did what he asked and minutes later, it was removed. He wrapped it up in some gauze and showed it to me. Sure enough it didn't look right.
"I would like for you to take a pregnancy test."
"I have food poisoning."
"Just humor me. Like you said, you're probably not but let's be on the safe side." He pulled out a pregnancy test kit, the hospital kind and I took it headed to the bathroom.
I looked down at the box. It was no way I was pregnant. If this thing had been damaged all this time I would have known. Think Lizzy, did you have a period last month? Oh gawd I couldn't remember. I had been so wrapped up in Sean's life and working I was drawing a blank.
"Damn it!" I said hitting the counter. I looked down at the test again. Why was I getting nervous? I was suppose to come here break up with Aries and move on. My stomach started to hurt again. I took a paper cup Aries had on the container and ran some water in it. I drank it down and suddenly it came back up.
I grabbed on to the sink trying to keep my balance. I started to sweat and now my nerves were getting the best of me.
"Are you okay in there?" The tanned stallion of medicine asked.
"I'm just fine. Almost finished."
I grabbed the towel from the rack and patted my face. Taking a deep breath I proceeded to give the doc what he wanted. I washed up, walked out the bathroom and sat in the chair next to the bed.
"Another three minutes and it should be ready."
"Do you want me to get Aries?"
"No, please no."
"Okay."
"So how long have you been a doctor?"
"Fifteen years and the last six in private care."
"I'm sure you make good money catering to the rich and famous?"
"I do. It's the best decision I've ever made. I get to know my patients and their families better and provide specialized care."
"Good for you."
"So how long have you been dating Aries?"
"We have been seeing each other for a while. We just made it official."
"Congratulations."
"Thank you."
"You're different from the others."
"Let me guess, I don't appear to be after his money?"
"That yes, but it seems you have your own mind. Blue jeans, ponytail, no make-up, this is the first. Most of his companions dress the part of a high society nitwit."
"You mean golddigger. So not me, I'm a laid back kind of girl." I was starting to like this guy.
"I can see that. Are you going to Fan Day?"
"To be honest, I did but with the pain, I'm not so sure."
"Well I can prescribe Zofran for the nausea."
"That would be great."
"Well let's see what the results are," he said walking in the bathroom. He wrapped the test up and gave it to me.
My hand trembled a little. I unwrapped the tissue with my heart pounding, I mean literally beating out of my chest. I closed my eyes squeezing them shut.
"Today or never," he said sarcastically.
I slowly opened my eyes to find out that I was....
