《My Vampire Ex》On the Way

"I'm gonna kill him! I have to kill him." I pushed the pedal of my Audi to the floor.

It was five in the morning. Zach and I had spent all night in Jessica's memories. We relived every horrible thing Tanner and Jared ever did to her and it was awful. Zach was sitting next to Jessica in the back. His hand resting on her forearm as he kept track of her dreams.

I could not believe the things I had seen. Jared put her through so much physical and mental abuse over the past five years. Tanner had sat back and acted like it never happened. Hell, he even helped Jared at times. When the law was passed at least she got away from him. The boarding house seemed a lot nicer than their outbursts. I now understood why she was so different around them. They had broken her down so many times that it was automatic to her now-a survival mechanism.

"There, I made sure she still be having good dreams until she wakes up. Too bad I can't wipe it all from my memory," Zach said. He seemed just as shaken up as I was. I felt bad that he had to watch everything with me, but I had no choice. He needed to see it so I could.

"What did you put in her head?"

"You." Zach's smile was sly.

"Why me?" He could have made her dream about puppies. I didn't care, as long as it wasn't a nightmare about what had happened last night.

"Because, you make her happy. And if she wakes up with good thoughts about you she will be more likely to want to be with you. It's dream science."

I raised my eyebrows at him, "whatever you say weirdo."

It was nice having company in my life again. Don't get me wrong, my employees were fantastic individuals, but I missed how fun and unpredictable Zach was.

"Are you going to be okay? You know they'll both be there." Zach leaned forward and rested either elbow on the tops of the front seats.

"I'm not sure. But if either of them try anything I might rip their hearts out of their chests. I know he's my brother, but that doesn't mean I can sit back and let them treat a living being like this. It may be legal, but it's not right."

Jessica shifted in the backseat. The medication should be wearing off soon. I hoped she will be back to normal and happy after a good rest. It was heartbreaking seeing her so scared. I had a feeling that wouldn't be the case once we arrived at the house though. "I need you to take care of her, Zach. I won't be able to be at her side the whole time we are there, so I need you to make sure she's safe. Can you do that for me?"

Zach nodded, "of course. I know how much she means to you. I'll protect her, I promise."

I sighed and tried to focus on my driving to get rid of my nerves. We were only a few hours away.
