《My Vampire Ex》Hunger Pains

A car door slammed shut. My eyes fluttered open, but immediately slammed shut again. Jesus was it bright outside. Wait. I'm outside? I braced myself and dared to open my eyes again. I was in the back seat of Finnigan's Audi. Outside, it was a bright and sunny day.

Somehow the car and I had made it to a gas station in the middle of a shopping plaza. We were no longer in the Utah mountains. I shut my eyes again. My head was pounding and the bright sun wasn't helping at all. Just as I was about to drift back to sleep a car door opened in the distance. I pried open my eyes, squinting to see who my visitor was.

"Oh, hey, you're awake. Good timing." Zach greeted me with a warm smile. He sat in the seat next to me, his dark gray eyes searched mine. Someone was hungry.

"Where are we? Where's Finn?" A stroke of worry fell over me. Why was Finn not here? I hadn't spent enough time with Zach to get on trusting terms with him. My eyes scoured the car looking for a fast exit.

Zach chuckled, "We don't need Finn where we're going."

A chill ran down my body, starting from my head and stretching down to my toes. "I, I need Finn. Please bring me back to him. I can't offer you much, but you can have my blood." I scooted back as far as I could, touching my back to the car door.

"Jess, love, I was kidding. He's inside getting you something to eat. I would never do anything to harm you." Zach reached toward me and grabbed a hold of my hand.

I flinched and instinctively pulled away. No Jess, behave. He can do what he wants. I set my hand back in his, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

The driver's car door flew open, "Is everything alright?" Finn stared back at us with concern in his eyes.

"I made a bad joke is all. She's fine, mate." Zach assured him.

Finn nodded but his eyes never left me. I nodded in agreement with what Zach had said. My head was still pounding and all this commotion was not helping it. I just wanted to go back to sleep.

"Now that you're awake, why don't you come sit upfront with me, Jess. I brought you breakfast." Finn smiled and held up a brown plastic bag filled with drug store food. My stomach growled in delight at the sight. I was so hungry, and so was Finn. His eyes had again become the dark emerald that they had been the first day we met.

I was about to agree when last night's events came rushing back to me. You need to behave, Jess. They're sending you back to the hell house. "I'm not trying to disagree but I thought Mister Zach should sit upfront with you. Since he's more important." I could feel both of their eyes on me but I refused to meet either of them. I instead decided to focus on the air conditioning vent that was below the console.

"Sit up front," Finnigan said through clenched teeth.

"Yes, sir," I bit my lip. Why did I have to open my big mouth? Now he's upset. You know better than to argue, Jess. If that had been Jared, he would have beat you. You need to behave better. "I'm sorry," I added as I climbed into the passenger side.

I stared straight forward. The last thing I needed was to cause more conflict. Finnigan started the car. "You can go back to sleep, but it would make me happy if you ate something first. I know you're hungry." He set the bag in my lap.

I glanced down into the bag. He sure did know how to pick out food. There was water, energy drinks, fresh fruit, junk food, salad, and protein bars. Everything you could crave when you're nutrient deficient. "May I-" I started.

"Take anything you'd like. The rest will go to Zach but I want you to pick first." Finnigan cut me off.

I fished the fruit, a protein bar, and water out of the bag before handing it back to Zach. "Thank you, sir." I could feel his distaste for my word choice but I couldn't call him by his name. I needed to be good.

Finnigan sped up to 90 miles an hour and his grip on the wheel tightened. He was on edge and I knew it had to of been all my fault. I thought about offering my wrist to him. But was that acceptable? Could I do that? Could vampires drink and drive? I shook my head at myself. Those were dumb questions, Jess. You're too hungry to think straight.

The more I ate my food and drank the water the less my head pounded. I heaved a sigh of relief. I really needed that. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Finnigan staring at me. The usually stern look he wore was soft and caring. His lips turned down in a frown that had a certain pout to it. "How much longer until we get there? I'm bored," Zach groaned from the back. I jumped in my seat slightly. I was so lost in Finnigan's features that I forgot Zach existed. My eyes centered back on the road.

"We are half an hour away from LA. So not far at all." Finnigan sighed. Why was he so sad about that? I was going to be out of his hair. His job was over and he could go back to being alone. I felt a wave of nausea pass over me. Only half an hour until I was back in Jared's grasp. Even worse, I had told them everything bad I did when I was with Finn. I bet they're livid. I fucked up so badly. I bet I'll be in the basement for the next month, at least. I am immortal-ish now though. I had yet to decide if that was good or bad. Knowing I was going back to them, it most likely meant a lifetime of misery.

Yay me.
