Available - Support

I chose the only available option, support. It seems that even Index seems to be restricted to some degree. Up until now I'd thought of Index as the god, but maybe they're somebody else.

I wonder what possibilities this would entail. I could get a lot of healing spells and simply make my host unkillable. Constantly healing and buffing them from an unreachable spot. If I took over a tank and did that.. this has the potential to be amazing.

The scuffed fight with the pink bee hadn't been easy but due to my perk my legs slowly healed. The other grasshoppers legs were still corroded black. The top of them completely gone. He stared at me in complete befudlement.

“What the hell,” he jumped up to me to inspect my legs. “How are you doing this?”

“Zuu zuu,” I tried to change the topic, “zu ku nooo za.”

“Still keeping up with the boring joke for some reason.”

It jerked his face back to the bee, uncaring for the conversation. It seemed as if his eyes were filled with gold. It jumped at the bee, and despite his entire body eroding, he hugged it like a little girl hugging her teddy bear. It shrieked in joy, as it ate the pink bee. Suddenly, it stopped and looked at me.

“Come on, it’s really tasty,” he said. This guy is completely insane.

But the grasshopper seemed pretty reasonable just two seconds ago. I guess I can try it once, eating that is, worst case scenario, I’ll just heal it back. As the saying goes, can’t judge it until you’ve tried it.

I walk up to the pink bee, and take a small bite out of it. It goes down my throat easier than expected.

Grasshoppers are herbivores. Or I think so. I’ve got a vague sense in my mind telling me that the are. Perhaps the better way of saying it is, grasshoppers were herbivores. Things have suddenly changed, and I know that they've changed, but the “how” of it all leaves me confused.

My face tingled as it erodes away in bee blood. But my tongue feels ecstasy. An explosion of emotions sprint into my heart. Colours spark my sight, my heart’s speed jerked up then down.

We ate our stomachs full, they handled the erosion a lot better than our skin. It got so bad that I couldn’t recognize the other grasshopper after. His entire body was corroded black. Mine would be too, if not for the perk.

We fell asleep beside the pink bee.

When I woke up, I saw the grasshopper. He was completely healed. And looked bluer than before. More vigorous and larger than before. This must be why the other grasshopper so eagerly jumped on the bee.

“Look at you friend,” he says to me, “look at how strong you’ve become.”

“Do I look that different,” I say, shocked that I can finally speak.

“Finally done with that sick joke of yours, ey?”

“Zuu, zuu, da-da.”

“Not again,”

“I’m just messing with you,” I try to laugh but I can’t.

“I think I’m close to my evolution,” he goes.

“What do you mean?”

“Our evolution is soon here.”

“Yeah, but like what’s evolution?”

“Did you hit your head or what?”

“Maybe.”

“We evolve into yellow grasshoppers after eating enough.”

“Oh, do other creatures also evolve?”

“Don’t know. All I know is that we do.”

“So what’s next?” I ask him.

“I don’t know. We continue eating, like always.”

He walks up to a blade of glass, and bites its edge. Soon he’s gotten more than halfway through and the large blade of grass collapses down on the floor. He eats the rest with such grace that it makes me think he’s done this a million times.

Suddenly, a green mantis falls down from a blade of grass. It clenches the other grasshopper, and starts biting into his head. He screams and shrieks as he kicks the ground. They rattle around but the mantis won’t let go.

“Run!” He shouts and I stand frozen. “You can’t save me, go!”

I wasn't trying to save you fool, just shocked.

I put all the power into my legs and leap away, just then another mantis falls down for me. I avoid its claws by 1 cm, avoid certain death by 1 cm. The other grasshoppers' shrieks fade away as I get further away from him.

Strangely, I don’t feel any grief for its death. It’s like stepping on an ant. A mere inconvenience at worst.

But Ḯ’m scared. Scared for my own mortality. I could die just like that.

My eyes scan everything around me. I’m flinchy, the slightest vibration sets off another powerful jump.

I jump from spot to spot at least twenty times, before my legs tire. This isn’t good. If I can’t jump when one of those mantises comes for me, I’ll die.

I jump too many times, I die. I jump too little, I die. There needs to be a balance to this.

I take a bite out of a blade of grass. It tastes bland. And, I don’t receive any experience points from this. I wager that if I want to become stronger I’ll need to get as many experience points as possible. That means I need to kill something, perhaps not a pink bee, but something nonetheless.

I spot a large blue-legged centipede running through the ground. The mere sight of the beast almost made me jump to the moon. But I didn’t. I can't jump every time things got scary. I’d end up dead later rather than sooner.

“Hey you,” I call out, unsure if he can hear me. It stops. It looks arounds, left then right, curling its head as it does so.

“Up here on the grass,” I say.

It looks up and spots me. It realizes how small I am and runs off in the opposite direction. Not a single word was exchanged between us.

I doubt it can understand me. It could probably hear me though, just couldn’t understand me. I need to be the same species to speak with someone else, at least for insects I guess.

The perfect prey is a bee. At worst they'll sting me, and their easy to spot. Simply find a flower, that's all.

And I see a flower.

I jump up onto the flower, and stand on the top of it. A blind man could see me. I’m out in the open, but I’m counting on the bees being too dumb to realize that I’’m a threat.

Bees were stupid as hell on... wait where do I come from?

Either way, I see a multitude of bees flying around in between the different flowers. None of them flew towards me. I guess they're smarter than I thought.

Suddenly, A bird grasps me.
