《I am a Spy》Forget about the top, it's all about the bottom

Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro
After the mad events in Rocinha, Enzo parked his stolen motorcycle a few meters from the gate of Lake, so as not to cause any further suspicion. It was still hard to believe that he had survived an intense shootout minutes before and escaped by a miracle. And now what? What would be the next step for him? Well, it depends. To begin with, Enzo would have to survive the anger of Vini, who already knew about his friend's shenanigans. He would have to walk a few meters along the bike path to try to convince him that all of this was not his fault, and that the events that happened as a result were not his fault either.
- I should fucking kill you, you bastard! - Vini said, angry, but not that angry. - And it almost did. All because of you!
- I don't know what you're talking about. - Enzo played dumb.
- Well, let's see. A few days ago, you told me that you found several boxes with money and weapons. The man who almost killed us said he didn't receive part of his payment and was ten thousand dollars short. Connecting the dots and knowing you well enough, it is clear that you made a move.
Vini should change his name to Vinicius Holmes. Or Sherlock Valverde.
- Well, what's the status?
- We lost our documents, they have our ID, we lost our money and credit cards.
- And my cigar. - Enzo added.
- Sure. So, we lost our documents, wallet, money and a cigar. In other words, we got completely fucked.
- Suzane fucked us again. Worse than that. She fucked us and not even in the fun way.
- Why Suzane? She had nothing to do with it. Apparently.
- Why do you always have to defend this woman?
When they arrived at the gate of Lake, Vini greeted the doormen, who warned him of a package left by an online shopping company.
- It's for Vini.
- Great. - he said. - What might it be?
He began to shake the box. It looked heavy. But Vini didn't want to open the package at the gate, what if it was something nasty, like a Manchester City jersey? Vini couldn't risk it. So he thanked the doormen for taking care of the package and began the climb up the stairs toward the hallway.
As he reached the top of the stairs, Enzo felt a strange presentiment. As if something in his subconscious was warning him that something was going to go bad. He looked at Vini and asked if he felt anything strange.

- No, Enzo, what are you talking about?
Coming down the street, two motorcycles and a van stopped exactly behind the gates that delimited Lake's space from the outside world. Vini couldn't see, but Enzo's superpower was very useful once again. Underneath his jacket, the motorcycle rider was hiding a MAG, capable of firing at least 650 shots per minute. And that's what he did. Enzo shouted "gun" loudly and ran as fast as possible under the granite guardhouse counter. The men started to machine gun the front gate of the building. Vini was able to hide behind one of the several supporting pillars, but one of the tiles detached itself from the cement and hit him right in the right eye, leaving him momentarily blind.
- Holy shit! - he said, with only left-sight.
- Motherfuckers! Motherfuckers! - Enzo shouted. - What the fuck is this?
- It's an killing spree! - said Vini. - They want to get us!
Ah, Enzo was not going to let this pass. He used to say that "attacking a man's house is worse than attacking him personally. A few meters away, he found his gray bag full of weapons - which he didn't know how to use. But in that situation, who really cares? While the shooting did not stop, Enzo tried to load the gun completely blindly. If he had more time, he would certainly give the manual to Vini to read and then take the easy part.
- Enzo, shoot these sons of bitches! - Yelled Vini. - What the fuck are you waiting for? An invitation? - Fucking do it, shit!
Enzo didn't even care what he was shooting at. He pulled a handle down and pointed the barrel where his nose was pointing and pulled the trigger. The gun made a lot of deafening noises, he had the feeling he was going to pass out at any moment. The adrenaline kept him from doing something stupid and running around like a crazy bastard, but he wanted to at least hit one of them.
- Fuck this bullshit!
Vini made a sign for Enzo to move forward. To do this, he had to go to the front gate crawling on the ground like a snake, underneath the bullets. The shooters could only see Vini hiding in the pillar, but they couldn't spot Enzo, because the place where he hid was well under a plant patch, with an almost invisible hole.
When he arrived at the entrance gate, he noticed the body of one of the doormen on the ground with his cell phone in his hand, probably calling the police. Enzo lifted his head and saw the van and the motorcycles starting to drive away. Enzo didn't think much about it. He picked up his cell phone and threw it right at the rear window. It seemed like a senseless move, Vini didn't understand the point of doing that either.

- I turned on the WhatsApp tracker and sent the location to my number. - Enzo clarified. - We will know where those fuckers are.
- If the cell phone was not destroyed in the process. - Vini remembered.
Once the dust had cleared and the situation was more under control, Enzo and Vini got a real dimension of what had really happened. The entrance and the gate of the Lake were entirely destroyed by bullets and broken windows. Police cars drove over the yard and the front gate had to be ripped down to make it easier for the authorities to get in and out. Luckily, no residents entered or left at that time. The fatalities only occurred for an unfortunate moment. The doormen who just wanted to do their job and were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Man, look at this place. What they did to our house. - Enzo lamented, in one of his rare moments of weakness and dejection.
- Soon the police will be scanning the bodies. In the meantime, try to stay cool and don't talk to anyone. - Vini looked around once more. - At least only the first floor is a mess. The shit didn't hit the apartments.
- Forget about the top, it's all about the bottom.
- Yeah, I know. But at least no one else was hurt. We need to talk to Suzane.
- Unless she doesn't have her fucking TV cable on, she'll know what happened.
- Yeah, but she doesn't know that we are... Well, us.
- So what! I'm done with this shit. Let's drop the cover, already! If you want to fuck her, do it, yet. Give yourself up and leave. I'm done.
Enzo then left Vini very mad behind for the third time in the day and walked alone to his apartment. But, unlike what Vini thought, this was nothing more than an act. As soon as he stepped into the house, he turned on his computer to check the real-time location of the deceased doorman's cell phone. He just wanted some peace so he could track down the van. As expected, the vehicle stopped at Rocinha.
- But of fucking course. - he said, not at all surprised. - Well, I can see you, assholes.
And it didn't stop there. Enzo also knew the license plate number of the van and the two motorcycles. Once again, his superpowers were very useful. To check the owner or owners of the vehicles, if any, he logged on to the Brazilian DMV website and put the exact license plate number into the system. It was not very difficult to find answers.
- Sergio, Delatore, Carlos, José. - Enzo wrote the names down on a piece of paper.
He also wrote down the exact location of the cell phone. He had no idea where it was or where, but he didn't need to know. The GPS was very accurate. Oh, thank you, technology, he said. Then Enzo heard knocking at the door.
- Holy hell. Who is calling?
- Matt Damon. - Vini said.
- Have you been rescued from Mars yet? You were lost there for quite a while.
- Open the door, Enzo.
- It's already open.
Quickly, Enzo logged out of the site and hid his notebook so Vini wouldn't see. Unfortunately, another more... Explicit popped up.
- How are you doing? - Vini looked at the screen. The answer was kind of obvious.
- I lost my mind, man.
- Yeah, me too. Look, forget I said that crap bullshit. It's not your fault. Maybe it is mine.
- Yeah, I think it is. - Enzo smiled.
- You fucking womanizer. - Vini replied, smiling too. - But ... We are in a big mess. A big one. But there's no way to turn it back. If we're going down, let's go down together.
- That's right. You and me against the world, remember?
- Of course.
Maybe so, but Enzo wasn't going to tell Vini about the owners of the vehicles, nor about the tracker.
- By the way, did you get anything from the tracker?
- Not really. - Enzo said. - Probably the cell phone broke when I threw it through the window. Or the signal is too weak. Sorry. I lost them in Joá.
- Our street has security cameras. Lake too.
- But they won't get anything, Vini. They were wearing dark helmets and jackets. Whoever did this had knowledge. They were professionals.
- I have a place to take you. But not today. How about Friday?
- That's fine. But first, I'm going to the house of the Europe Sisters.
Vini didn't understand.
- What are you going to do there?
- Vini, I just survived two shootings in one day. I need to release the stress inside me.
That means...
- Get laid.
Enzo smiled and winked his right eye.
- You get my meaning.
