《Aurelion》Chapter 16

"I'll start when you say you are ready" The girl said.
Brusken closed his eyes and took a few deep breathes. After that, he reopened his eyes and said "Ready!"
Right the moment the word "Ready" came out of Brusken's mouth, the 4 chains she had started circling the ring and aimed at Brusken from different directions, but not attacking just yet.
None of them did anything. Brusken was paying full attention to his surroundings. He also looked intensely at the girl, who didn't seemed to even have a care about the battle at all. The girl just stood there and taking a few steps here and there after short breaks in between.
After about 20 seconds, the girl suddenly turned to Brusken. "Oh? I never met anyone as patient as you before. Most people would either attack me the moment I turned around or at most waiting an extra 5 seconds."
Actually, I'm not sure whether I would be like Brusken and just wait there, or take the chance and attack the girl. Either way, I ain't breaking the deal since she never said I can't attack her. But, now that I think about it, it seemed like she actually wanted that to happen.
She gave Brusken a warm and friendly smile, then said "Alright. I'm sorry for wasting so much time. Let's get serious" She raised both her arms up to her shoulder level, then gave a little clap
Suddenly, the chains started coming at Brusken. Once again, Brusken only stood there as the chain close the distance. Then, a split second before the chains would touch him, all of them got blasted away at the same time.
In the air, I saw a movement. It was the girl. She was flying in mid air, and falling towards Brusken like an eagle. Her eyes were glowing sky blue. It was funny that I was jealous of their eyes, as I was sure mine couldn't glow.

Her chains seemed to gotten a boost in speed and control. She did a pincer attack where two of her chains would split up, and circled him from both sides. Then, her other two would attack him together from the top
Brusken raised his right palm to the direction the girl was. It reminded me of Alduin's posture where blocking Ghork's attack. As the chains got closer, he seemed to be gathering power as his eyes were glowing more and more brilliantly. Then, he suddenly closed his fist and a huge flash of light was generated.
I was blinded for a second or two. When I got back to my senses, there Brusken was, standing there at the same spot totally untouched. His hand suddenly swung downwards like he had lost all his energy. I also noticed his heavy panting.
As for the girl, she was sitting at the other side of the ring with her back to the wall. She didn't looked injured from the blast, besides a little dirty. Instead, she looked like she also have used up all her energy in that final confrontation.
She stood up and shouted with her last bit of energy, "As promised. I admit defeat." Her legs started trembling. Then, her whole body fell to her side. Brusken was still in a daze after the attack.
Some "cleaners" were sent into the ring since the battle was over. They moved the bodies away. A man also ushered Brusken to the resting room. I got down from the viewing platform and started walking to the resting room to meet up and congratulate Brusken.
On my way there, I heard many people discussing about the battle. Some of them were talking about how powerful Brusken was, that maybe he could be the second strongest only to Alduin in the future, while others were complaining that they bet on the wrong person.

I also overheard a conversation between cleaners. "Four dead, two extremely injured and one just passed out. Alright, now we need to....." I didn't continue eavesdropping as I already have an answer to an important question I know Brusken will ask me.
I opened the door to the resting room and was was surprised to find only Brusken sitting on a bed. I imagined there would be a ton of people there, some new friends or family members maybe, but none of them at all.
I sat next to his bed and said "You did good"
He instantly asked in a worried tone. "How many did I kill?" His face was genuinely worried.
"None. At least that's what I heard. Those that died are most likely from that girl."
He gave a smile and relaxed a little, knowing that he didn't kill anyone. Then, he said. "I'm tired. I'll take a nap first."

I walked out of the resting room as Brusken dozed off. Then, another announcement came and named the contestants for the next battle. I returned to the viewing platform and watched the battle, and a few more after that too.
There were fighters of all kinds. Mages, swordsmen, martial artists, ranged experts, and so on. I saw epic battles, ultimate displays of magic, super battle tactics and more.
Before long, it was my turn. I walked into the ring as the light shined into my eyes. With my two daggers in my hands, I jumped straight into battle.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.

Author's Note: (This is my first story, and I would be very thankful if grammatical errors were pointed out. I could also take a few suggestions in the comments if you would. This is less a planned production, and more a little project that I'm winging as it goes. I will try and be consistent with at least 2 chapters a week. Also, as I am a completely new author, the number of words per chapter may fluctuate. The minimum will be around 1000 words, while other chapters may be 2000-3000. It will hopefully only get better with time.)
