《What Chaos Can do》Here's the Wind up...

I done fucked up this time Nora…. Big time
Jeanie thought to herself, as she reminisced about family back home. Well…. The family she used to have. Before they threw her out, and John snuck out later that night to find her.
“ Are you hungry, bud?” she asked John after putting the bucket back on the ground.
“ Yeah, but I’m okay.” he told her weakly, after which, the thought of food made his stomach growl quiet enough she didn’t hear it. He hadn’t eaten in days, or maybe hours, it's hard to tell when all you do is sit and walk, and sleep. John still didn’t get why they had such bad luck, he knew that it all started after he found his sister do that one spell-y ritual thing in their house that one day. He was not aware, however, that it was because of said ritual that caused bad things to happen to them. He just thought his sister was just unlucky.
“ Let’s go look for some food, okay.” she half-asked him sweetly, trying her best to cheer him up. She messed his hair a bit and held out her hand to help him up off the ground. He took her hand and got up with her assistance.
“ Okay, let’s do it.” John smiled and confirmed with enthusiasm.
As they gathered their bags and blankets, and the bucket, they left the only place they had called home, taking their belongings with them, just in case someone, or something, decides to steal, or flat out devour anything.
Fucking Earth bitch, making us do all this packing around and shit just to come back here later…
Looking back at the muddy, shallow ramshackle home she found in the side of a small dirt hill in the forest, Jeanie appreciated the fact that Earth had left this place alone, at least. She didn’t know the unspoken rules Earth had, albeit unwillingly, agreed to; and if she had, she wouldn’t be as grateful.

Making their way through the forest for about 30 (27.5) minutes, John and Jeanie made small talk . They didn’t really talk about a lot, because neither one could think of anything interesting to talk about. So after a while of trying to think of something, they would just enjoy the sound of the birds, and wild…. Animals…?
Something was off, meaning it was quiet, too quiet. No noise, but the leaves crunching under foot. Jeanie swore she heard birds not that long ago. She whistled to John who was still walking after she had stopped. He looked over with an indifferent face.
“ Yeah? Whats up?” he said nonchalantly.
“ Listen.” she whispered loud enough for him to hear, now being about 10 (9.8) feet away.
He listened for a moment, and noticed the silence immediately. Wide eyed and scared, he asked her what should they do, being as how they both knew what the silence meant. It meant that there was either a very large, and/or very scary predator nearby.
“ Walk very slowly to that tree.” she said while pointing to the large gefnergin tree not but twenty (19.2) feet away. John shook his head in agreement, and slowly, moved towards the tree. He was trying (and failing) to not crunch to loudly, as he made his way. Jeanie being a natural sneak was making almost no noise. They both got 3 or 4 ( 4.6) feet away from the tree when a loud howl could be heard very close by. Immediately realizing where the sound came from Jeanie dropped her blanket and bucket, grabbed John and ran the opposite direction from the tree. 13 ( 13.7) ft off the ground and in the tree stood what could only be described as a very large, hungry, and angry long tailed hound. A Phase Hound to be exact.

Without even moving the Hound snarled and appeared on the ground in a small flash of blue light. It gave chase immediately, for its meal was leaving without it permission. Snarling, snapping, and scratching were its forte, and it intending to get more use out of said hobbie on two half-elves running for their lives.
“Don’t stop John!” Jeanie yelled as her and her brother were running and ducking under branches, that Earth wanted a tad bit (3-4 ft) lower, at the last second.
J : Will you please stop?! I know you hate me, but fuck, John will die too!
E: I have no clue what you are talking about...
J: Just stop, please, you can’t do anything that will outright kill me, it’s against the rules, and you know it, now fucking stop!
The tree branches stopped shifting in the children's way, making it a little easier to run, but the Phase Hound was still behind them. Horrible barking and gnashing of teeth could be heard, not but 2 (2.0) ft behind them. Jeanie and John were running for what seems like two miles, before John started to tire slowly, and was almost ripped apart by the hound. Jeanie noticed his slowing pace and did what would be the first brave thing she's ever done.
“ STAY AWAY!” she screamed as she turned 180 degrees on a dime and ,using her sharp fingernails, stabbed at the hounds eyes (bullseye), went too far and forced them into his skull. The hound immediately dead weighted, still carrying it momentum and shoved her to the ground under it. Not realizing what happened, she started screaming, and thrashing, and trying to shove the damn thing off of her.
“ Jeanie! Are you okay?” “ Jeanie, you’re okay.” “Jeanie?” “Jeanie!” “ Will you stop, it’s dead” her brother said again, annoyed at how such a grown up could be so skittish and scared.
“What?” “ Oh, could you help get this thing off of me please?” she asked embarrassed. John grabbed the hounds front paws and lifted with all his might, while Jeanie did the same. After a minute (1.6) of struggling, Jeanie slide out from under the disgusting thing. What followed next Jeanie had never experienced before. A window appeared in front of her but not actually there. Like, a image in her mind. She had already seen these before but this one was different...

“ Huh, that's weird.” she stated dumbfounded
“ What’s weird?” John asked, enthusiastically curious
“ I just…. Leveled up?” still dumbfounded
“ Okay? And that's weird why?” he gave her a puzzled look
“ Because I only killed one creature, don’t I need more experience?”
“Don’t you remember dad telling us about when you level up the first time, you don't need a lot of experience points? He was a Brawler, so I'm sure he knew what he was talking about.” John said matter-of-factly
“ I guess I forgot” she said after remembering the conversation she had with their father years prior. “Well, let's see what these new features do.”
