《Beast-Men》17. The Journey

A month and a half later Rabbit journeyed across the outer farmlands of Fieldon towards the northern mountainous area. The plan was for Rabbit to be the sole champion who rode over the horizon and joined the fight last minute with his trusty servant. However, Rabbit’s trusty Servant was no longer Aaron. Instead a red armoured and caped guard on a pure-breed black horse who wore a vial of were-beast blood around his neck rode by Rabbit’s side. This depressed Rabbit because Aaron’s formalness was exchanged for the guard’s grimness. The guard hadn’t even told Rabbit his name, and they had been riding together for two weeks.

Even though nobody told Rabbit directly why the switch happened, Rabbit felt like it was his fault that Aaron was replaced. The worst part is that Rabbit now knew that Aaron was a good guy with only the best intentions in mind. Of course Rabbit still supported his idea to run from the loneliness he felt at the colosseum because he was able to meet Alice, whom he loved, but now that he had seen Aaron in a different light Rabbit almost wished that he hadn’t run away and instead been Aaron’s friend.

As Rabbit thought the mountain pass came into view with each of its peaks emanating a circular grey hue. Rabbit followed a thin dirt road until the road became a stomped snow road, and he saw the armies facing each other while the sun shone orange through the clouds to the west. Likely, the battle hadn’t even started yet, but a howl riled up the zest of the Fieldon army.

The growl echoed, reverberated by the walls and was followed by another and another, each from the top of the mountain. Many soldiers began drinking their were-beast vial, but the ones that really caught Rabbit’s attention were the enemy troops hanging around the crevices in the middle of the mountain. These men tore at their clothing and armor while standing at the edge of their crevices, revealing their white spotted fur that began to grow out of their madly twitching bodies. Each growled again and again into the pass until the growls endlessly echoed into each other.

For some reason, Rabbit knew exactly who he was facing, Snow Leopard.
