《THE MAN WHO FOUGHT GOD》8. The Boy Who Fights Bears

The dirty-white wolf approached Joseph slowly, yapping and growling as it moved. Its head turned from side to side as it did, every couple of steps jumping up on its hind legs slightly.
'I don't know if I can take on all these wolves by myself, but thankfully I don't have to. I just have to get this one away from White and I know she can take care of the rest.'
"Common you big puppy!" The wolf charged at Joseph as he yelled
'If White's scared of him I need to be cautious, I don't need to take him down, just get him away.'
The wolf leapt at Joseph biting onto his left gauntlet. Spit covered the gauntlet as the wolf bit down on it, but it didn't break or even gouge.
"I've got him White! Don't worry!" Joseph rolled backward and used his feet to launch the wolf ten feet behind him as he spoke. Then turning and charging at the wolf, picking it up before it could recover from the throw and carrying it into the woods as it bit at his arms and clawed at his chest.
A deep primal growl emerged from White as Joseph and the wolf disappeared. It was so primal that the other wolves started backing away from her, but it was too late for them.
Joseph beat the wolf's head, threw it into trees, and kicked it across the snow. It made yips of pain as he did. The wolf hadn't put a scratch on Joseph's armor with all the biting and clawing it did. Joseph danced around the wolf parrying its every attack and countering as if he knew what it was going to do before even the wolf did.
'I've been fighting someone a lot stronger than you for a while now, you're close to nothing for me!'
"Why was White so scared of you!" Joseph spoke while beating the wolf down.
Finally, the wolf laid on the ground, broken. It tried to crawl away but its back was broken making it unable to move its hind legs. Joseph stood over it and put his elbow just above the wolf', the sharpened end of his gauntlet resting against the wolf's throat. Joseph balled his hand into a fist with his bent arm and raised his other high. Then with an open palm, he slammed his hand against his fist while he leaned forward with his body weight. The end of the gauntlet dug deep into the wolf's throat as the blood rushed out.

'Now, time to get back to White.' Joseph turned to run before noticing something, 'Are these claw marks?' The something was on all the trees surrounding him. “OH no, White, we've got to get out of here!"
Joseph sprinted back to White while paying attention to the trees. What he saw on the trees only further backed up his guess that he so desperately didn't want to be true. He made it back to White in no time, arriving to see the torn and scattered remains of the five wolves. White had sat in the middle, patiently waiting for Joseph to return. Once Joseph showed up she barked and began eating the remains of a wolf.
"White we have to leave! Now, come on, leave the food!"
White shook off Joseph who was trying to pull her away while she ate, if it was anybody else who did this they would have been killed.
"Come on White listen to me!" Joseph shoved White hard successfully knocking her away from the food.
"Grrgrgrgr, WOOF!" White protested.
"Fine!" Joseph hit White on the top of the head and tried to pick her up and carry her away, but it was too late.
A deep and booming roar came from their left, up the stream they stood next to. Another, just as powerful, came from their right, down the stream. They had a bear on either side. White bounced from side to side. She would turn to face one bear and then spin around to face another, giving a good bark each time in an effort to scare them off. The bears continued to close in, stopping only to stand on their hind legs and roar as they swiped their paws through the air.
'With any luck, they'll fight each other. let me just, nope! as soon as we move they both adjust their direction and head for us. I don't know if we have a chance against them. They are both bigger than the bear me and White fought to get our cave, and without my spear--My spear!'

Joseph turned back to White grabbing her head to she was looking at him, "Fetch." White looked at him with obvious confusion and anxiety written on her face as she tried to get out of Joseph's grip. Joseph gripped her tighter yelled at her with a tone he had never used before "Fetch! Now!" Joseph had just commanded her. He let go of White and she rocked back and forth unsure of what to do, but Joseph's stare further informed his command. White began walking away from Joseph and got a few feet before looking back, he didn't give in at all.
"WHITE! GO, NOW!"
White whimpered and took off running at full speed. One of the bears started to turn in the same direction White left in but Joseph yells at the bear. Instead of continuing It took Joseph's challenge and veered back towards him, charging.
'How is something so big so fast?' Before Joseph could finish his thought a roar came from behind him. While he had been occupied the other bear had taken the opportunity to close in on him. Joseph brought his arms up just in time but wasn't able to brace for the impact. The force of the bear's swipe to his gauntlets threw Joseph back to the other bear. With Joseph flying at the bear, it stood up on its hind legs and swiped him away. It hit Joseph square on his back throwing him to the right of the bear.
Joseph slid across the snow, getting buried under it as he did. Coming to a stop he wheezed unable to take a breath, but he needed to get up. He scrambled to his feet still unable to take a breath and felt around his armor.
'Armor at least. Nothing broke I don't think. Agh, I don't know if I can take another one of those. I can barely feel my hands.'
Finally able, Joseph took and deep breath. "Come at me!" Joseph ran toward the bear that had swiped him away, stopping just in front of it. Holding for a second Joseph let the bear's swipe pass through the air in front of him before jumping up and punching the bear in the side of the head. The blow caused the bear's head to be pushed to the side, almost knocking it over. However, the force of the blow also threw Joseph back just enough. Enough for the other bear to claw at his back, shredded the skin just above and just below his armor which still didn't have a scratch on it.
"Agh!" Joseph yelling in pain was able to get away because the force of the blow wasn't much since it was meant to scratch him. Joseph put distance between him and the bear that scratched him, but only enough distance to the other bear to get a running start. While the bear was still trying to regain its equilibrium Joseph charge at it using his whole body as a weapon. He slammed into the bear, shoulder first and bracing as hard as he could. The bear's balance finally gave out and it fell to the side. Joseph picked himself up off the ground by the bear's hind legs, despite all he had given it he bounced off the bear only just breaking his balance.

Fortuna Verto
A girl’s luck changes when her world changes upon itself, sending her back and forth between a world she knows and another that shouldn’t even exist. Working with her parallel self from that other world, the two must adjust to their alternate form when visiting the other’s world, as they search for a way to escape the chains of misfortune they are bound to. While this story is the conclusion of the trilogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, as the world of Celese itself is no longer a place the characters will be journeying through. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for all previous books, in case that matters to anyone. This book has an additional chapter after the final chapter that represents the trilogy conclusion, and should not be read until all three books are read first. Fortuna Verto continues the events of Essentia Animus to advance society into a sci-fi interpretation of Celese, bringing events to a distant world of another star. At the same time, events interpret a real-world advancement into a similar sci-fi age of another planet that shares Earth’s galaxy, a planet that has also been linked by the Celesi Veil. English remains predominant in both worlds of the story, but the presence of both sides makes certain Aethyx terms stand out, while Earth-styled scientific terms will also stand in a powerful contrast. Instrumentation remains an important aspect of the Elemental Era, but the influence of the gift has grown distant after discovering the superiority of the elements. Harnessing the elements had eliminated some of the original limitations of instrumentation, allowing for a self-sustaining focal source that provides solutions to problems such as automation. This turns the development available from the previous modern-day sense of a fantasy to one that is deep-future. Finally, opening access to the passage across the veil will open this progress in comparison to a very similar deep-future parallel world without such fantasy elements, contrasting the laws of physics with the laws of elements in a convergence of time and space.
