《Author's Rant》The Spirit

For starters, I'mma give a more in depth description of it. You got the main character, Max. She's got a friend, Myra, and they're part of the resistance. The resistance of what, I still have no clue. Like, the only resistances I know of are ones against governments, but I don't know enough to portray a bad government as accurately as I would like, so I've ruled that out. All I know is that leading the opposite group - the one the resistance is against - is Max's other half, named Sam.
Now, to explain that whole process would be a bitch. For starters, it involves what's basically a fountain of youth. Basically, Max lived eons ago, and her older brother was being kicked out of her tribe at that time. She gets upset and storms off into the woods, promptly getting lost. Hours pass, she's lost, confused, hungry, and thirsty, and a storm has rolled in. She stumbles upon a small little trickle of water in a clearing, decides to take a break, and drinks some of the water.
The storm starts, and there's just thunder and lightning every where. And, as you'd expect, she gets struck by lightning. She dies immediately, but is struck by another bolt of lightning, reviving her. However, the way this fountain of youth works is that it revives you upon death. So, now, she's been reborn from the fountain of youth, and she was revived by a lightning strike. This kinda tears her in two, leading to the creation of Sam. They're linked, but not mentally. The version of her that was reborn retains her memories every time she dies, but is reset to how she was when Max originally drank from the fountain of youth, while the version that was revived keeps her body. Not the body she had when she died, but, like...if she works out and takes combat lessons for her entire life, she'll be reborn with a body that portrays that. Unfortunately, she won't have any of the memories needed to successfully utilize that.

Sam also doesn't only get her memories back when she's reborn, she also gets Max's memories. So you have Max, who has a body that can do literally everything, but she doesn't know how to utilize it, and you have Sam, who has millennia of memories, but is always going to be forced to use her mind for a few years before she can use a lot of the knowledge they've built up.
Now, the funny thing is that Max founded the resistance in one of her previous lives, and took Myra in as a pupil of sorts. And, funnily enough, I have their first interaction be Myra seeing Max in a diner, looking 16, and having no clue who Myra is, before she gets shot. Myra, trying to understand what the fuck just happened, tries to save Max's life, but fails, leading to Max's respawn. Myra finds Max wandering around the city by pure chance, and is just scared at this point. Like, she watched her teacher die, and then she went out to get food a few days later, only to see her teacher in the same diner, but much younger, and watch her die again, and now she sees her teacher again just up and about. Myra is understandably scared.
Also, spoiler,
Sam tries to see if she can induce the same split process that happened to her and Max artificially, and Myra is her test experiment. It's partially successful.
Well, yeah. That's a lot different from what it was when I first started it. I still like a lot of the ideas and concepts I used in previous versions of it, so I've tried to incorporate as many of those as possible. Things featuring time travel, artifacts, and a lot of breaking the fourth wall. Not so much that last one in this latest version, but I still want to do a throwback to all the previous versions of my story, so that'll be included in there.

Now I'm feeling nostalgic. Like, this story is my baby. I don't doubt it will undergo many more revisions before I'm ready to show it to the world, but I already love it. It's like I'm a swordsmith, and this is the sword I've been trying to make since I first became a smith. All the other stories have been practice swords, that can obviously be better, but they're still just practice for this. Literally, if anyone I personally know bad-mouthed it, I would never speak to them again. Not because I'd break ties with them, but because I don't need to talk to the bodies I try to bury in an empty field somewhere. Sigh.
Anyway, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow (technically today), and then a graduation that afternoon, so I should get to sleep. Time to get back to writing one of my other stories.

The Hunt
Cecily's blade swung, hitting its mark as always. The man's arm fell to the cold grass of the prison with a familiar thud. He let out a blood curdling scream. A warning to the rest. Stay away, the Hunter is here. That's the name they'd given her, the Hunter. After she cut off the man who tried to rape hers masculinity, they stayed away. She'd made it clear anyone who tried to touch her would be hunted and slaughtered. Cecily kneeled down, pushing the man's face into the dirt so she could use his back as a seat while she trifled through his belongings. "You're hurting my ears," she told him, no remorse in her voice. "Quiet down before I really do kill you."The man but his lip, well aware that she wasn't lying. Sobs shook him, making for an uncomfortable seat. She, however, didn't particularly feel the beed to kill him. It happened, not often, but it did. "Oh, hush up," she hissed, taking out a bag of rations with her metal hand, "it doesn't hurt that bad."With her good, human hand, she dropped the plastic bag of food into her own bag. She pushed up, off the man back. As she was about to walk away, bag slung over her shoulder, brushing against her autumn colored braid, she turned back to him. "Consider yourself lucky," she said, no hatred in her voice, there never was. "Consider yourself lucky that you didn't do anything stupid. And even luckier if one of the scum bagged criminals in here feel a little light in their hearts and help you. Consider yourself luckier if you die there."With that, her old black and white Nike sneakers carried her off into the brush of the huge prison.
