《Phantom Transgression》Chapter 3

CIA- DEPARTMENT OF SECONDARY AFFAIRS,
LANGLEY, VIRGINIA,
Nathan parked the car in the deepest region of the parking lot, hoping to hide the dents till he could fix it by his own expenses.
Turned out, nobody was minding Camshron's vehicle at all.
After killing the engine, he rushed to the elevator for Mr. Fernsby's cabin.
Camshron spotted Chief of DSA branch in the passage after getting out of the elevator
One minute early. Nathan was proud of the feat, which Mr. Fernsby was not interested in at all.
"Embassy member Mohammad Ul Haq is murdered." said Mr. Fernsby when he noticed Camshron's arrival.
"When?" asked Camshron.
"According to the source, yesterday."
Mr. Fernsby looked startled. He and Camshron started walking fast on the passage where tramps echoed.
IT Head, Mr. Cook came running towards those men, "Sir, should we inform about this to every staff?"
Mr. Fernsby nodded.
Mr. Cook didn’t spend a second after seeing the gesture and hasted for his room.
"You, Les and some of our cops will go there with me." Said Mr. Fernsby, heading for the same elevator from where Camshron had come from.
Camshron understood what he meant to say. He was going to be handled this case. Camshron had some experiences of VIP cases. He had already solved the case of former Dutch minster's murder case as well as he had solved a Russian VIP murder case. He had two VIP cases experiences.
Camshron heard Mr. Fernsby saying, "Some legal procedures shall be enough to hand you over this case."
Camshron's silence showed he had agreed.
"Sadly, Nathan, we are not the first ones who got the wind of terrible terrible news." Mr. Fernsby's voice showed how concerned he was. The person informing me this said that he had contacted 911."
"Metropolitan Police Department cops are on the spot as of now."

"Are they ready for our presence in there?" asked Camshron.
"They are expecting us." Fernsby said by pressing the button outside elevator, "And they are expecting a lot from us."
The elevator's door slid open.
_
Camshron felt the air of D.C.
Les was sitting beside him in Kevlar Vest. Camshron understood what Les was missing.
D.C air at the very point of time.
"You are sweating." Nathan Camshron pointed out.
"I don’t mind this sweat." Les smiled.
"What is the worst condition where you have sweated?"
"When I had to make a very tough choice." Les' smile didn’t die.
"You SWAT guys shouldn’t shed sweat of fear." Camshron felt free to speak because Mr. Fernsby was inside the van ahead of them, "At least you get to wear these vests."
"But the irony is, I have been shot more times than you."
"Maybe it depends on fortune."
"Or perhaps the job in general."
Despite of the jest, Camshron felt the whole city going fainter when he observed people's faces on the street through the glass. He knew it was nothing more than his fake sensation. Why would a VIP murder make the whole city sad? People were terrified but not angry.
Camshron had no excitement inside him. He knew VIP cases are dangerous and are linked with political affairs. On the other hand, Haq was in Embassy of Afghanistan. He could guess nothing about the case before reaching murder spot.
Once in Vorkuta, he had been handled a case by CIA's DSA branch. It was about a couple of years ago. In the case he had to dwell with a high profile secret investigation. Investigation in his own nation, Netherlands, was simpler in comparison to that case. In United Sates he had been never handled a VIP murder case. He was not well aware about political principles and procedures.

He just hoped this case wouldn't get tangled with political events. There were some chances of it because he was an Embassy member.
The workers don't go far inside political affairs. He was praying this case won't be connected with last day's event in White House.
White House.
Camshron felt they were slowing down. He anticipated a reason of it. He saw some police cars and some cops around there.
"Stop the car near the villa." Mr. Fernsby said pointing out a villa about two hundred meters away from where they were. It was a bit of far so Camshron couldn't see it clear. Soon in buzzing speed the taxi driver drew much more near to it.
Just sixty feet.
Now Camshron understood why it was called a villa. It was a bit bigger than medium-sized house which looked to be built in the 1940s due to its old style. It looked as if the majority of the house part was made of wood. It was a three-storied house with an inverted V shaped roof. Its design was very similar to a church. The house was painted in shiny brown color but one thing made house look terrible-crime scene tapes.
Yellow tapes with black block letters- POLICE INVESTIGATION. DO NO ENTER was not what Camshron had always been expecting in a murder spot.
Now he was five meters further from the tapes. It made an irregular circle like area around the house.
Just a few meters away to it was car parking place which was large, well managed and cemented.
Even the elegance of architecture had crime scene tapes around them.
As everyone got down off the car, then many cops came buzzing near to them covering the car. One thin old man in a police uniform was recognized by Camshron. He was Edwin Meredink, who was MPD head. He was in his mid-fifties but appeared to be older. Meredink shook hands with Fernsby when Camshron was having a look on everything from a distance but in a close way.
Mr. Meredink said, "Mr. Fernsby, nice to meet you."
"Our meeting always has to get something to do with situations like these." was the answer, "Trust me, always."
"So Detective Camshron." said Mr. Meredink to Camshron, who was looking at the huge car parking area. Camshron was unable to see Mr. Meredink's thin hand just about to make handshake with him.
Les cleared his throat.
Shit! Camshron turned back in a hurry and shook hands with Mr. Meredink. He said by looking at a dozen of police cars and many citizens trying to figure out the situation, "Mr. Meredink, where is the spot?"
"Right there." pointed Mr. Meredink at car parking area where some cops were walking.
Mr. Meredink said, "We have not allowed any FBI officer around here. They had come an hour ago."
"Did they investigate here then?"
"How could we allow them? See, some FBIs are still hovering around the house."
All of them started huddling towards the murder spot. They crossed crime scene tapes and in the huge room they saw a dead body lying on the concrete floor. Some cops were already near to it, some of them were also the local FBIs.
As Camshron went near to it his eyes first fell on the wound on the corpse's head.
Wound was on forehead.
Camshron picked out a pair of rubber gloves from his coat's pocket, wore it and touched stinking head of corpse around the wound. Body was icy cold, skin was about to lose its pigmentation. He asked to Mr. Meredink, "Has someone touched this before?"
"No one of us has. Can't say about the neighbors." was the answer.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion. Encroaching Darkness
Ashford Meyers used to be a general practitioner, living out his days in peace while he expanded on his hobbies. This all came crashing down when the world changed. Creatures from myths came out of the ether to wreak havoc on the world. He uses his smarts and additional powers from the system to create a place for the remnants of humanity to flock to. He starts training those who want to protect the weak in this new world until everything changes with the arrival of the outworlders. So, this fiction is something that I have been working on for a few weeks, and as such, I have about 75 pages already pending. On another note, chapters will be released every week on Monday and Friday, 8:00 am EST.

The Polyglot's Rune
Fear. Regret. Memories. They all flashed before my eyes as my life began to fade away. I felt a darkness encroach upon my heart followed by a sinister foreboding. Within that moment I was asked a single question by a powerful, mystical being. “Brave being, do you wish to accomplish a great deed in your life?” “No,” I refused, but the voice did not listen. It summoned me to its world only to try to have me slaughtered. But then, I was saved by him, the princess who disguised herself as a man. He was hellbent on revenge, and he was determined to drag me down with him. This story is meant to be a bit of a mix of genres and cultures, so there are some elements that may seem xianxia like, but it's not exactly the same so I didn't tag it. It also has multiple lead characters but is written in first person. Schedule: Dropped Normal Chapter Length: approximately 3000 words Warning: Tagged [15+] for Strong Language and Violence (Gore and Profanity aren't very prevalent, but I added the warning tags just in case).
