《Seukine》16. Final Resting Place

Firya entered the estate that would be her final resting place, Seukine. It was, of course, beautiful beyond expectation for most. Seeing the elegance of it calmed her heart. Gi'rea would be safe with Mir'fea. She sighed quietly in relief. If she could get Gi'rea out of Ghain'dea's hands before he recognized who she truly was, she could rest easy. Once the girl was safe with Mir'fea, it didn't matter if her identity was revealed or not.

Her body hurt as she the carriage pulled up to the second gate. She could barely walk now that the poison was coursing through her veins. Her body was shutting down slowly and painfully. She knew there was no hope for her once Ghain'dea had returned without Firynei. She knew what he wanted to do.

His father had brought them out of his obsession with her, but Ghain'dea found out that Firynei was Mir'fea's betrothal. He wanted to offend him in the worst way, but she didn't care if he knew the facts of her husband's family. As long as he never knew her family's true name. If she could get Gi'rea into Mir'fea's care, then everything would be okay for her little girl.

There was no saving herself, so she willingly took the poison Ghain'dea gave her. She couldn't bear to be a burden on her child any longer. She had done all she could for her daughter and she knew it would be soon time to rest. She only regret not being able to see her child find happiness.

"You seem uninterested in the estate known to every person in Vahnaine." Ghain'dea said from the other side of the carriage. He had personally come back to Asila to escort her to Seukine.

She didn't respond. Ghain'dea had always thought she was lowborn and her husband was the reason for Gi'rea and Mir'fea's betrothal. Seukine was beautiful and elegant but to her it was little more than a tiny garden compare to her home 'estate'.

"Speechless?" the young man asked, mocking her.

Firya kept her attention on the passing cherry blossoms. The general chuckled, "You'll be reunited soon enough with your daughter once she does her part."

Firya looked at the man's cloudy green eyes. His gleeful smile widening. "What have you done?"

"She has a simple task to dispose of refuse."

"Gi'rea would never do such a thing." Firya looked directly at Ghain'dea as she spoke, mustering what little energy she had. How dare he push her daughter to dirty her hands with blood.

"Do you doubt my words?" the man leaned closer to her. "Her loyalty will be the end of her and that useless tactician. He should rejoice that I will end his miserable existence."

Firya knew Ghain'dea would attempt something, but she didn't think he would be so bold to attempt an assassination of such a high-ranking military tactician. He truly was mad to do something so brazen. She bit her inner cheek to quiet herself lest she said something she need not say.

Instead, she looked away from the man's malicious smile. She knew her daughter would struggle if he were using her against the girl. She feared her daughter would falter if she knew her mother was in danger and she did. It was unfortunate, but Firya knew how clingy Gi'rea was. It was her fault the girl was like this, but she could never bring herself to push the girl away. Especially after she tried to take her life. Girea had no one in Asila but her and she couldn't bear to treat her daughter harshly, even if it would have saved her.

She could only pray that her last child would not commit an unforgivable deed for her life. When in reality her life wasn't assured either way.

Her hope was dying slowly as the carriage stop and she exited it. Her insides hurt as she was going down the steps from the carriage. She wanted to give up and die right there to stop the pain, but she pushed through it. She wanted to see her child one more time, even if it was accompanied by the fall of Seukine and the destruction of their family name.

"Welcome to Seukine." the voice that spoke was slightly raspy and deeper than most women but to Firya it was the lifeline she needed. The soothing voice of her younger cousin. The light in the darkness that Firya had almost forgotten about.

Looking up as she finally got down, she saw her younger cousin, Wrel. Just seeing the taunting smile on her face brought her peace of mind. Gi'rea was safe in Seukine. She could leave in peace knowing that her daughter was taken care of and would never be used in Ghain'dea's schemes.

She knew she couldn't acknowledge the woman, so she didn't look at Wrel any longer than necessary.

"Let me show you to your courtyard. "Wrel said, leading them at a leisurely pace. Her stormy gray eyes never looked directly at her, but Firya knew Wrel was watching her closely. Making sure she was okay.

They had a chance now. Her prayer were answered. Now she only wanted to see her daughter once more before she left the world.
