"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"Alan, are you there?"
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"Alan wakes up I'm here to help we have a way out." Ashley had tried a dozen times now
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
Ashley getting frustrated she shouted interrupting the chant "ALAN LISTEN!"
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"Yes… give… one….."
"I can't die and will not."
"Okie I'm going to talk to you don't worry about interrupting me.."I can't die and will not." but we'll be transferring your mind to another brain "I can't die and will not." and your body repaired but we need to push your conscious into the void."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
Ashley could hear her own sadness inside his mind echoing back. "We'll mostly have to force you down and then guide to into your new mind."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
An echo that was different from Alan's usual orders, "I understand."
"I can't die and will not."
"Ok, Alan you have to take everything with you and will close the veil behind you, on three."
"One"
"Two"
"Three"
Ashley watched as Alan's thoughts disappeared, leaving only the hole where our power sprung froth from. As they pulled the edges together, everything was going well soon enough, the seal was over it. Now they were required to make sure Alan didn't breakthrough so that the brain surgeon can attach Alan's new brain.
They could feel him through their own connection to the void he was feeling. He was filled with curiosity, his mind now free of not dying just temporarily lost with every neuron remembered and known.
The stress on them was minimal as the surgeon did his job. Still, as things progressed, Alan pushed against the walls of the veil wanting to get back to his body. With a lot of work to made sure the seal held as he increasingly became frantic to free himself stretch the seal over his powers. Since they were inside his mind, he had more ability to affect it. So they struggled to the feeling of panic and pain so ran through the group of telepath they were going to fail the weak one were already falling the pain and exhaustion.
It went still for a while as pure anger and frustration boiled throughout the connection. Still, they weren't the ones on the receiving end of the emotion they only knew about them.

Alan's focus soon fell back on the seal, and he pushed and stretched reality, it was then the surgeon gave Ashley the go-ahead as they felt through the new brain releasing the seal. Alan flew through, and they did their best that they could to guide the thought into the proper locations.
It was almost impossible as the flood of memory, fear, anger and worry ran through the new brain fire of all sorts of connections. Alan had torn through the veil, damaging the sides of his own hole. Pouring more power than was meant to be there before through washing away a few of the weaker telepaths.
As the rest of Alan came into his new brain, the hole in the veil became controllable, and it was directed to flow throughout his body. God knows what power that was doing, but Alan seemed pleased and content before he fell asleep thanks to the drugs they injected into him.
As Ashley withdrew her mind aching as the feeling of blood rush down her lip, but she couldn't believe the sense of Alan. At the same time, he was stuck at death's door, and Alan somehow came back through the veil occupying the new brain was massive. It was like he'd touched something that he shouldn't have.
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
"I can't die and will not."
The repetition was boring as hell for Alan. The constant pain was also another thing as he died a never-ending death, but he had to repeat it to remind himself "I can't die and will not."
If he didn't then, he'd disappear and die it wasn't until Ashley spoke to him that he dared to let go and try to talk something other than "I can't die and will not."
He'd eventually understood what they wanted him to do. Still, he looking at the darkness just beyond it instinctively scared him into the unknown depths where anything could come up and grab and take a chunk out of him.
He calmed himself with his breathing while he was assuring his mind that nothing had come through to bite him, and it's been months indeed if there was something they would have attacked by now.
He heard the echo of Ashleys call through his head. He dived wholly into the abyss dragging everything with him, his mind and what he thought was his soul; it lit the world beyond. He didn't look around but turned back to pull at the hole to close the connection to his body.
There was nothing else to do so he couldn't help but look around. The longer he looked, the more things became more evident, with there being several reasons for his sudden fear. It flooded through his mind as he managed to understand the near impossible.
Hundreds of long tubes that flowed through the space one were attached to him. In contrast, the others he assumed were the other supers they dangled out beyond his sight into the darkness. He saw several tubes gathering energy from the blackness and channelled it up into reality where it was used up Alan assumed in the form of their and his powers.

While coloured light filtered through heading toward their intended direction before disappearing back into reality to cause the effect. At that moment tonnes of energy were being pushed toward Alan's seal, and it had lit the surroundings up.
He wondered if he could control his tentacle. He tried to think about moving them, but his tentacle didn't move at all attached to something. He was almost curious enough to fly down and see what it was but hesitated when he caught something in the edge of his eyes.
Looking towards the disturbance, he saw something that blended in so well that he only saw it because it bloated out the light of one of the streams of emotions. It moved, consuming some of it before it faded back into the fold. Alan retreated back pulling his tether taunt and prayed that his multi-coloured soul light would go unnoticed.
He was in deep trouble when he spotted one of these creatures weaving back and forth swimming through space. Straight for him as mouth even black then the void they were in if that was possible. It sent shivers up his back, and he pushed himself against the veil. At the same time, he watched that monster gain on him the immensity of its hidden monstrosity by the darkness of the veil.
His frantic behaviour was causing concern and pain to those to avoid. Still, he didn't care they weren't facing that monstrous more that'll consume his soul and energy. As he grew more panicked, the colour of his soul changed as the emotion fluctuated between scared and angry. As he noticed that the creature grinned in understanding, then something in Alan's brain seemed to click as if the answer had always been there, but they were just coming through.
They wanted his emotions, it mattered not how he was feeling but that he was feeling them very strongly. He then saw the creature change and reform into a copy of himself grinning and looking at him as if he were but a snack. The rest of its body was hidden; he was sure that this creature was massively more extensive than his entire planet and not alone. Never alone always accompanied by its spawn, it's agents to move, to grow.
He looked at the tethers attached to them, giving him the feeling of necessity and safety. He wondered if that was the point of a safety line to help them for a while. While this information ran through his mind, he still needed to survive, anger growing as he realised that they wished to harm his family and friend.
Before he'd realise a fist was travelling toward the mirror image of himself, he scattered the monster's portrayal of him like one does to glass. It remained floating through the void, there was a scream of pain that echoed through the blackness, and countless eyes opened and stared straight at him.
"Oh shit!"
He'd hurt the queen, and its warrior had awoken to kill the thing that dared to hurt her. He wasn't told that it was a simple assumption, not that he cared as he pounded against the veil to let him back into his body regardless of whether it was ready or not. He didn't want his soul ravaged and eaten by those creatures.
He felt the panic and weakened some of the telepaths forcing him to stay here but as he swung pure emotional energy at those monsters scattering them like bugs on a windshield.
Having millions of these creatures they only needed one to get through to tear his fragile soul, they managed to get a few hundred thousand monsters passed his wild swings. And even those swings backfired as the creatures did their best to latch on to it and leached whatever energy they could suck like vampires.
He made them explode be damn the consequences, he wasn't letting them suck his life away. The explosion of multicolour emotions killed hundreds of thousands of these monsters, and as the tethers shook. They held steady moving to its original place seemingly tougher than he thought them to be. He guessed that they resisted the attack of those monsters, but they could just be avoiding them somehow. They kept feeding him energy while the blast had knocked him back into the seal tearing slightly at the edges of reality.
He saw that even though the explosion had been terrific, but that didn't stop the wave of monsters rushing upon him, it had given him seconds to live.
The cold, uncaring, unfeeling eyes hungrily eating him up as it was useless to resist accepting it, submit to it.
They were upon him the mouth opened wide to consume him whole to dangerous to mess about with.
He then got the confirmation of his new brain, and all resistance had stopped. He tore through the reality as if it wasn't there finding his mind and soul forcefully ejected out and back into his body and mind. With a lot of help from the telepaths, they'd manage to get most things back into order.
He then instantly wanted to speak to someone to tell someone how much danger they were all in it was then that they put him to sleep as he still had significant organs to get replacements for.
But he tried warning those who listened, but they were in no state to do so as Ashley retreated into herself exhausted. Everyone else was either unconscious or bleeding.

8 199Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
