Chapter 15 Wishing Jackal Goodbye
[Thud! Thud!] Selene arrived in the back yard but saw no view of her pet. “He must still be resting inside the house. I’ll get closer and wake him up.” A bell was hanging in arm’s reach from the treehouse. Selene didn’t climb up the stairs which led above, instead, she rang the bell several times while calling out.
[Bang! Bang! Bang!] “Jackal! Jackal! Come on out, I know you’re inside.”
“???” The pet resting comfortably inside the treehouse rouse from its slumber when it heard the repetitious gang abusing its hearing. “Grr…” The pet known as Jackal woke up angrily due to the annoying voice that disturbed its sleep. However, after hearing its master’s voice, the pet’s angry demeanour vanished right away.
“Jackal! Jackal! Here boy!”
“Squawk???” The pet shot upright then pounced its talons on the floor as it ran outside. [Whoosh!] Due to the speed of its advance, it shed many colourful feathers in its trail.
[Chep! Chep! Chep!] From below, Selene stopped ringing the bell as soon as she heard the thudding sound atop the tree. She backed away several feet so she could get a good view of the approaching creature.
[Whoosh!] On the veranda atop the treehouse came out an overgrown creature that possessed shiny iridescent viridian feathers on its elongated body which captured the glow of its surroundings; grey clawed feet to supports its obese weight; a pair of crimson eyes that boasted happiness and a train of feathers with eye spots (brown yellow and green with a black centre) situated at its rear. This creature was undoubtedly a variegated peacock.
“Squawk!” After confirming Selene’s existence below, the peacock spread its large wings then flew excited into its master’s embrace. [Whoosh!] Due to the huge size of its body and the force it descended with, made Selene fell backwards the moment the peacock crashed into her.

“Jackal! Did you gain weight again? For a bird don’t you think that you’re getting too massive?”
“Squawk! Squawk!” Jackal was over elated to be in his master’s company again. He rubbed his pointy beak all over her buxom chest then commence licking her nipples through the thin clothing. He was rather a perverted bird who loved female company. Maybe it was due to his rare growth spurt which made him behaved like this.
“Get off Jackal. You’re crushing me!” Selene crawled out from underneath Jackal’s perverted licking then sat up with her legs folded underneath her bottom. She then played with Jackal’s colourful feathers. “How have you been, boy? Did you miss me?”
“Squawk! Squawk!” Jackal raised its train of fathers to showed Selene that he did miss her. Finished with their cursory greeting, Jackal sat beside his master, rested his weighty head in her lap while staring up at her face with deep concerns reflecting in its crimson eyes.
“Huh?” Selene recognized Jackal concerned gaze and told him. “By that sadden look, I’m guessing you heard about what happened to me on the new.”
“Squawk?”
“Yes, I got myself in big trouble this time. Due to the severity of my crimes, I don’t think that we will be seeing each other for a while.”
“Bukac?” Jackal’s eyes depicted his sorrowful emotional gaze. Seeing this, made Selene almost cry. [Sob! Sob!]
“Jackal promise me you’ll be on your best behaviour while I am gone okay? You know how much my mother hates you already so don’t do anything that would piss her off even further or she might get rid of you.”
“bu-kaak!” Jackal protested.
“No, Jackal you can’t come with me where I am going. I’m going to turn myself over to the FPD. Hopefully, by coming clean they won’t give me a death sentence. Remember to be on your best behaviour while I’m away, okay?”

“…” Jackal didn’t agree with her terms then again he didn’t disagree either. Selene followed him inside the treehouse where they sat on the floor and played an action/adventure game known as Sorceric Eyes.
It might have come as a shock hearing about a bird playing video games. However, Jackal was no ordinary bird. He was an intelligent peacock who loved mimicking the behaviour of humans due to how skilfully Selene had trained him since his great hatching.
“Squawk! Squawk!” Jackal was relaxing against a cushion while effortlessly tapping the controller buttons with his talons to direct his player on the monitor. It was something he used to do. He even bested Selene a couple of time on a multiplayer series.
Selene was enjoying what little time she had left with her pet who she considered to be a little brother. The time was drawing near when she had to turn herself over to the authorities. She continued her enjoyable moment with her best pal Jackal to ameliorate her nervousness.

The Many Blades of Wuxia
Hundreds of years after the Heretic wars ended, life has returned to its blissful ignorant state that only peace could bring. Whilst the never-ending war between Man, Beast and Mutant rages on, most are not even aware of a war that happened between men. Its prophecies shattered, their remnants surviving only in obscure bard tales. One is about to grow. On the cracked face of the world, Essence storms and Beast Waves keep the citizenry locked atop the Emperor city of Qaelang. Knowledge of the past is as rare as the metals that flow into the hands of Sacred Artists and at the root of it all are whispers of a malignant force, ancient and terrible. Holding humanity back from achieving greatness, but hiding too are secrets best left untouched. Balance, discipline and order have held Qaelang secure since time immemorial, the powers within claiming to adhere to them. None are more fearful of change than the ones with the most to lose, but change is coming. Blade of Wuxia is a long character-focused epic fantasy with progression and growth. It's about a boy's quest to become powerful enough to save those he cares most for and give them a better life. It's set in a world of hidden pasts and uncovering them will set him on a path that shakes the Empire. As this is a rewrite that took on a wildly different spin, reviews are most welcome and help me do better. What can the reader expect? A Wuxia society set in a High fantasy world. People are only doing what they know and may have mistaken beliefs. A clever resourceful protagonist with human flaws A far-reaching hidden fantasy world, rich in history. Multiple points of view are used to follow the story to its natural conclusions, not every NPC has all the answers, but there is one MC in this book. Progression will take time and sometimes even unknowingly. MC is not trained in the ways and knowledge must be tempered against experimentation. Release Schedule. 2 chapters a week, family and work permitting. Only if I'm happy with the chapter will I release it. That being said I am open to revision should an articulated critical response show merit. This story is not completed yet but I do have a general idea of what the end looks like for both MC's (yes both) Ultimately feedback will be most influential on the progression of release as it's you guys I'm looking to entertain. Expected Changes None really, I'm writing as I go and have a path planned for 6 books Chapter release rate might change if we take off and feedback starts flowing, but for now, it is just about making sure Arcs flow smoothly onto the next. Cover, yes absolutely! If there is enough interest I will open a Patreon account and use the first proceeds to commission an EPIC cover and hopefully a few scary artworks of our brave Cultivators and the foes they face.

It starts slow as I need to explain about the world. It is flagged as many as I could as I have a lot of ideas that I could make this story go towards. Edit: There is a rewrite of this story known as Aliad - Tale of Zed which can be found through this link: www.royalroadl.com/fiction/1820
