《BR: Collection of Short Stories》Story 1: The Son of The Demon King.

Colus, the son of the late demon king, appeared at the entrance of the capital city of the Kingdom of Veldora, Murich. He wore a black robe with a hood. It helped him hide his appearances. A guard decorated in silver armor was in front of him. He looked at Colus. Colus opened his hood and showed his face to the Guard.
Colus had white hair, light black skin, blue eyes, and an oval face. Demons were supposed to have red or yellow eyes, but Colus changed his eyes using a medallion. The medallion allowed the user to change his or her eyes color to whatever color they desired. Colus chose the color blue because it was his father’s favorite color.
“ID, please. What’s your business here?” The Guard said.
“To meet an old friend,” Colus said. He handed his identification card.
The Guard took out a cylinder mana device. On top of it was a crystal. The crystal acted as an indicator to signal if a person's ID was fake or not. The crystal would light up green if the identification was genuine or light up red if it was fake.
The Guard placed the device on Colus’s identification. The crystal blinked red and green several times before stopping. The Guard looked at Colus, and their eyes met. Colus didn’t know if the crystal showed red or green.
If that asshole tricks me. I will kill him, his family, his friends, his friends’ family, and their pets. Colus thought to himself. A silhouette ran through his cheek.
“Hmm… I’ll try it again.” The Guard scanned it two more times. The result of both scans was green.
Colus was relieved as he let out a sigh. The Guard returned Colus’s identification card and ordered his men to let him in. Colus covered his face with the hood. He entered the kingdom and walked around the capital city.
A child looked out at him from the alley, hollow eyes staring at him, begging him to fill the swelling belly. A woman wearing a skimpy dress in the nippy autumn air with her skin pulled taut against her bones batted her eyelashes at him and waved. He walked past ignoring her. Down another alley, he could see three people smoking something and the noxious smell that reach him made him wrinkle his nose in disgust. He had no tolerance for people smoking hallucinogenics.
In the distance, he could see quite the commotion ahead. As he walked closer he could see a lady being dragged out of a doorway by 3 men marked with the crisp apple dark red uniform of the king's soldiers. The woman screamed and kicked one of the guards, but they didn't even seem to notice as they threw her out on the street. A fourth man threw a child out from the door onto the street next to her.
A filthy old man bumped him, he held out his hand, begging for something. Colus shuddered in disgust. The demons didn't allow anyone to live in such utter squalor.
So, this is what peace looks like. Typical human. Colus thought. He ventured further and saw an inn sign. It read “Tiger’s Inn.” It was the place he would meet that person.
Colus entered the building and headed to the reception desk. When he opened his hood, all eyes were looking at him because of his appearance. The looks that they gave him were either they thought of him as a demon or a unique experiment subject, conducted by the demon kingdom ages ago.
Colus paid them no mind and handed his identification card to the receptionist. The receptionist scanned his card. Similar to the situation outside of the entrance. It took her three tries to confirm his identity. The reception handed Colus his identification and the key to his room.

“Your room is on the second floor at the end of the hallway. Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner schedule is in your room,” The receptionist said.
“Thank you,” Colus said. He headed to his room on the second floor.
Colus opened the door and entered. He looked around. The room had a bed, a desk, a closet, the food schedule, and its prices. Colus put his bag on the floor and took out a device in the shape of a square. He sat on his bed.
The device had a crystal screen on it. Colus tapped on the device's screen using his index finger, sweep around, and tapped on an unknown name. It began ringing. Then, someone picked up the call.
“Hello?” the man said.
“I’m here. Where are you?” Colus said.
“Okay, I’m on my way.”
“Make it faster or else, I’ll kill you and take that with me,” Colus said.
“Okay, okay, I get it.” He hung up.
Colus put the device away and laid down on the bed. Comfy. He thought to himself. Colus fell into a deep slumber. Moments later, he woke up because someone knocked on his door. Colus stood up and opened the door.
“Took you long enough,” the man said.
“The bed was comfy, and I fell asleep,” Colus said.
The man shook his head and said, “Anyways, here is the thing you order.”
The man handed him a bag. Colus took the bag, looked at the inside of the bag, and saw the gear. With this, I can get my revenge on him. He thought to himself.
Colus placed it on his bed. He took a scroll from his other bag and handed it to the man.
“Here’s the map you asked.”
“Thank you, pleasure doing business,” the man said.
“Yeah, yeah. Now get away from my room!” Colus said in a stern tone.
“Alright!” the man said. He left Colus’s room.
Colus took a map from his bag and a piece of information about the festival. It showed him where the king would be, along with the security and route.
I’ll punish him, just like he did to my father and my people. He thought to himself. Colus prepared himself for tomorrow. Tomorrow was the day of his father’s death and the festival celebrating the peace brought by King Ratchet. Colus checked his gear and strategized on how he would conduct the plan. Then, he had dinner before going off the night. He dreamed about his time with his father. He was happy in that dream.
It was morning. Colus had finished taken his breakfast. Then, he walked around the capital city. The capital was filled with people from all around the region to celebrate the festival.
Little did they know, today was also the day. Colus would get his revenge. He stood near a fountain and checked the time on the screen of his device.
“Just have to wait for a little while longer,” he murmured to himself.
A half-hour later, King Ratchet arrived with his family. He was dressed beautifully, and it showed authority and benevolence. The crowd cheered loudly.
Suddenly, a kid rushed to him with a knife. King Ratchet saw him and immediately disarm the kid.
“Soldiers, take away this child,” King Ratchet instructed.
“As your order, my king,” A soldier said.
“You…. Because of you, my parents are dead. You killed them, you monster!” the child screamed and cried as he was taken away.
I guess no one knows what the king does to the poor child and his family. Typical human politics. Colus smiled as he thought to himself.

What Colus meant by that was, even in peace. The Veldora Kingdom’s scientists would experiment on their people. Some of this experiment was making powerful soldiers. Those soldiers could destroy countries and continents.
The late demon king knew about this because some of the experiments were used on monsters and demons. He waged war on the humans because of it. The late demon king would destroy towns if they had those kinds of facilities. Many humans were killed.
The King at the time would use those killing as propaganda against the late demon king. These propagandas would attract soldiers, warriors, and adventures that wanted to make a name for themselves. Thus, a man appeared, and his name was Ratchet. He would become the ruler of the Veldora Kingdom.
Ratchet led the hero’s party into the demon region and slew many demons there. They appeared in the palace of the demon lord. Ratchet and the demon lord fight intensively until only one remained, and it was Ratchet that stood until the end. The hero’s party burned the place. They didn’t know that Colus was there.
Colus was just 6 years old when it happened. He barely escaped the burning building. From there on, he held a grudge against humans. Primarily, King Ratchet and the hero’s party.
Colus trained for 18 years in magic, swordsman, martial arts, range weapons, history, and politics. He also learned the humans' way of thinking, history, economics, politics, weakness, strength, and secrets.
He wasn’t sure if King Ratchet knew about the experiment after he was crowned, but judging by the current situation of the human kingdom and the secrets that they had been hiding from the public. It showed him, King Ratchet might know about it and agreed to continue it.
At the end of this event, he will receive my judgment on him. He thought to himself.
King Ratchet showed himself on his podium. He grabbed the crystal microphone and began his speech. Before he could start, Colus shoot a fireball at him.
King Ratchet dodged it and looked at Colus. Colus took away his black robe. He dressed in black iron armor, and on his chest was the royal demon insignia. King Ratchet was shocked to see it but remain composed.
“Attack him!” He ordered his men. The soldiers ran to him.
Typical. Colus thought to himself. He threw a smoke bomb to the ground, and black smoke appeared.
“I can’t see shit.”
“Where did he go?” A soldier said.
The men were confused. They began to attack each other inside the black smoke.
“Hey, it's me,” A soldier said.
“Ah, sorry!” He apologized to him.
Confused, Colus killed them. He continued to kill each one of the guards.
The smoke disappeared, and it showed the bodies of the soldier. Colus couldn’t be found. The soldier who was outside of the smoke began to shiver.
“W-Where did he go?” A soldier said.
“Stay vigilant. He’s still here,” The Captain said.
Underneath them, a large circle appeared. The soldiers were confused. Then, a giant golem made of lava and stone appeared. He shoots molten lava at the soldiers. They were killed instantly, and some of them were burned to death.
The Captain's feet shivered. Colus took the opportunity, appeared behind, and beheaded him. The Captain’s head fell to the grounds, and Colus smashed it with his foot.
Colus sensed bloodlust. He turned around, and King Ratchet appeared. King Ratchet swung his sword at him. It went through, and Colus disappeared.
“A shadow clone,” King Ratchet murmured.
“Indeed. Do you remember whose spell that was?” Colus asked. He appeared on the podium with King Ratchet's daughter in his arm. The Queen was lying dead on the floor.
“You! Stay away from my daughter! You spawn of the devil,” King Ratchet yelled.
“Pfft. I’m the spawn of the devil! You idiotic king,” Colus responded.
“Now, back to the topic, do you remember whose spell did I use? Colus put his short blade on the daughter’s neck.
King Ratchet gulped. “Yes. It was from one of my friends in the hero’s party. So, I guess you killed her?.”
“What do you think?”
“I take that as a yes,” King Ratchet said. He readied his sword.
Colus smiled and pushed the daughter towards King Ratchet. King Ratchet tried to catch his daughter, but a blade went through her. He jumped away immediately. His daughter fell to the ground and vanished.
“Another clone?” The King said.
Colus giggled. “Of course, it was a clone.”
“Where’s my daughter?” The King asked. His tone was rage.
“Who knows. Even I don’t know where your daughter went. You should’ve kept an eye on her,” Colus teased.
“You!” King Ratchet jumped on him. His blade went through Colus, and he vanished.
“Clone again!” He raged.
Colus moaned. King Ratchet looked at him. Colus sat on top of a building, his legs crossed.
“Enough playing games!” King Ratchet yelled.
“Sure.” Colus threw a black orb at him. King Ratchet repelled it with his sword, and it flung towards Colus.
Colus was shocked. The black orb hit him, and he fell to the ground. Pain coursed through his body.
Dammit, I know he’s powerful, but I don’t know he’s this powerful. He used a healing scroll and healed his injury.
King Ratchet jumped on him and kicked him in the face. Colus was late to react. He smashed into a building.
“This is what happens when you talk big!” King Ratchet shouted.
Dammit, I just wasted a scroll. Fuck! He’s too strong. Colus thought.
He stood up from the fallen debris. King Ratchet ran up to him again and slashed his sword. Colus dodged King Ratchet’s slash. A thin hair was cut.
Phew. If I didn’t react to it. I’d be dead. He felt relieved.
Colus took out a dagger and thrust it towards King Ratchet. King Ratchet dodged it. He tried to kick Colus in the stomach. Colus grabbed King Ratchet's leg using his left hand. Then, with might, swung him back to the open space.
King Ratchet smashed into the ground and coughed. Pain rushed through his body. He tried to stand up, but Colus appeared in front of him. King Ratchet didn’t have time to respond as Colus cut his right arm off.
The King screamed in pain, looked at Colus with rage. Colus took off the medallion, and his red eye appeared.
“You! You’re his son.” King Ratchet realized.
“So, you’ve finally realized it,” Colus said. His eyes filled with anger.
“That explains how you got her power. You’d steal it from her, you damn demon.”
“No. She gave it to me,” Colus said.
“Gave? Impossible!”
“Oh? You don’t believe me. Oh well, let me show you how it happens.” Colus took out his device and tap on his screen. He showed it to King Ratchet.
On the video, it showed her giving the power to her disciple. Then, the disciple thrust a dagger on her chest. Her body fell to the ground. The video continued, and the disciple revealed himself as Colus.
“Y-You’re her disciple? Impossible! For someone like her. She’d already known it was you.”
“I killed her disciple before the ceremony begin. Changed my appearance into him using a scroll and use his memory to trick the scanner and her. I’d to say, the scanner almost got me. It pinged as invalid on the first two tries, but it couldn't beat my appearance changing magic.” Colus smiled menacingly.
“I’ll fucking kill you!” King Ratchet yelled.
“How can you kill me? If I already do this,” Colus said. He cut King Ratchet's other hand and his legs. King Ratchet screamed in agony.
“Now… it’s time for the climax,” Colus said. He held his sword in the air and swung at King Ratchet’s head. King Ratchet’s head fell to the ground, blood spills everywhere.
“That should do it.” He walked away but felt something like a demonic aura.
Colus didn't seem fazed. He smiled and thought. So, it’s true. He knows about the experiment, but oddly enough, the hero that killed my father won’t do something like this. So, he must've been possessed by something else.
He turned around and saw an ugly being. King Ratchet had become a demonic creature with sharp teeth, claws, regrowth muscular arms and legs, black skins, and wings. His hair became white, and his eyes turned red. He attached his head to his new reformed body.
“So? How do you like my new form?” King Ratchet spoke in a deep rough tone.
“Let me guess. You’ve experimented on yourself,” Colus said.
“Indeed… It was quite a hassle, but I did it.”
“The hero that killed my father. He won't do something like this.”
“Yes, he wouldn’t, but people change for the better, and I change to this.”
Colus, still smiling, said, “So, it means you’ve possed him, late King Orion.”
King Ratchet was not shocked by the revelation. He giggled and said, “So… You knew I’d possed him.”
“Yes. At first, I refused to believe the information I’ve received, but when you change your appearance…. It all came true.”
“Deep down, you want to get your revenge on him, but because I already killed him. It seems you owe me a favor. So, why not you join me? Together we can rule this land. I wanted a prince for a long time. I can marry you with my daughter. How about it?”
“You dare to make a deal with a demon. In a demon form. I’ve to say. That is quite bold,” Colus said.
“So, it’s a no?”
“Try read the mood.” Colus took out a ring and wore it.
His whole appearance changed into dark armor with a black sword. King Orion was shocked to see it.
“That armor… that sword… It can’t be….”
“So, you know this armor.” Colus smiled.
King Orion didn’t respond. He smiled bitterly. King Orion knew about the armor because of Ratchet's memory. In Ratchet’s memory, he battled the late demon king in a gruesome match. They were both balances in terms of strength and power, but in the end, Ratchet prevailed.
When Ratchet and his party returned to the kingdom. King Orion, on his death bed, called for Ratchet. Ratchet met the King and King Orion with the help of a demonic scroll, possed Ratchet. King Orion’s body died, but his soul had been transferred to Ratchet’s body. Ratchet was crowned King.
Ratchet married the widowed queen. The Queen gave birth to a healthy baby girl and was named Alicia. She was the one who presumably died at the start but was kept hidden by Colus.
Shit. I wanted to kill that man. His revenge plan was foiled. He truly hated the man in front of him because he had taken that chance away from him.
Time to end this. Colus thought.
Both of them readied themselves. Silence filled the air around them. A leaf swayed in the air. It touched the ground, and both men jumped forward.
Their blade clashed. A shockwave appeared and destroyed nearby buildings, killing the people who were taken cover.
King Orion slashed his sword at Colus. It injured Colus’s leg. Colus groaned in pain. King Orion attacked him again. Colus used his sword and blocked it. The impact threw him, and he smashed to the ground.
Colus hurried to stand up and used a healing scroll. King Orion released a black fireball at him. Colus used his sword, and consumed the attack, and repelled it.
I have no more scroll left. If he hit me again, I’ll be screw. Worst, I’d be dead. Colus thought to himself. King Orion dodged the fireball.
Fuck. Colus swore inside his head.
King Orion flew in the air. His left arm held up, and a giant black orb was being collected.
“Heh…,” Colus giggled. That was stupid of him.
Colus jumped in the sky above King Orion. Then, he struck the orb. His sword consumed the black orb.
The King didn’t show any sign of flinch or shock. Colus's expression changed to surprise when he saw King Orion’s face. He knew he felt for his trap.
“Fuck!” Colus swore.
“Now died!” King Orion yelled.
Colus's sword broke, and the black orb coursed through him. He cried in pain. His body dropped to the ground.
King Ratchet landed and checked Colus's body. He was unconscious but alive.
“Now let’s see where you've hide my daughter,” He placed his palm onto Colus's head and inspected his memory.
What he found was a shocking revelation. He took away his hand from Colus’s head. Colus opened his eyes and smiled weakly.
“Heh… so, you finally found the truth,” He thrust King Orion’s chest with a hidden blade.
“Your power…. Is mine…,” Colus whispered in his ear.
A stream of black aura course through the hidden blade. King Orion tried to escape, but when he tries, someone held him.
It was his daughter Alicia that held him with might. She wore golden armor, and it had the Veldora emblem on it.
“Alicia, you traitor!”
“No, father… You’re the traitor of humanity.”
King Orion cried in pain. Colus formed a scythe on his left hand. He looked at Alicia and said, “Hey, sis… moved.”
Alicia moved, and Colus swung the scythe. It cut King Orion’s head off. He tried to regenerate, but it wasn’t enough. His aura was being consumed, slowing the regeneration, and because of it. King Orion was slowly dying. His body fell to the ground lifelessly.
Colus and Alicia looked at each other as a woman came into view. It was the Queen.
“Is he dead?” The Queen asked.
“Yes, mom,” Alicia said.
The Queen was relieved. She looked at Colus, but he didn’t pay any attention. He sat down on the unharmed bench.
“Dammit…,” he cursed. He was experiencing pain.
This is what I got when I took the full-blown black orb. Thankfully, I managed to use the consumable aura and block some of it, but damn, that thing hurts a lot. He covered his injury using his hand.
Alicia came close to him and said, “Need a hand, big bro?”
“No!” He responded. Alicia remained quiet.
I never thought the princess of the Veldora Kingdom is my half-sister, and the Queen is my biological mother. He thought. Colus recalled how he met her and knew their story.
After his father died, the Queen and Colus met. Colus had already known his mother was the Queen because of the diary. In the Diary, his father and mother met, they fell in love and had a son named Colus. Colus was hidden from the knowledge of humans and demons because of the turmoil between them at the time. Only a few individuals knew his existence.
The Queen had to marry King Orion because of her parents. She knew about the hero's party gold. The Queen sent a warning to the late Demon King, but he replied to her by sending a letter and a white rose. He knew he'd died and requested her to take care of Colus.
After he died, both mother and son were plotting revenge on both King Orion and Ratchet. The Queen silently gathered forces to wage war against King Ratchet. At that time, Colus was training under his father's trusted friends. It didn't take long for the Queen to know where he was.
Colus didn't fully trust her. His deep hatred of humans ran deep, especially for his mother because she abandoned him. The Queen understood his feeling, and so, she requested Colus's trainers to teach him about human custom and history. They agreed and began teaching Colus about it.
“How are you feeling?” The queen asked.
“Absolutely terrible, but I didn't ask you to speak a word to me.” He responded.
“Always have that same attitude.” The Queen said in a discomforting tone.
“Well…. That’s because I was born without a mother and had to rely on my own strength,” Colus said.
“I’m sorry, I was not there for you.” The Queen lowered her eyes.
“Keep that apology to yourself, human. You’re trash to me,” Colus said in a harsh tone.
The Queen was taken back but remain composed. Colus knew that his word would make his mother cry, but he intended to do so. His deep hatred of humans still lingered inside his heart.
“I’ll be on my way.” The sooner, the better. Colus thought.
“How about my father.” Alicia pointed at her father's corpse.
“I don’t know. You think about it yourself. Why’d I help you.” Colus shrugged.
Colus tried to walk away, but a hand reached out to him. He stopped and turned around. It was his mother’s hand.
“What do you want from me?”
“A favor,” The Queen said.
“No!” He refused. Colus tried to move.
“Then, how about a deal? You’re a demon.” The Queen said.
“So, my mother finally said it. How wonderful,” Colus said.
“So, what do you need?” Colus continued. His face showed a smile.
The Queen took a few short breaths, “I want you to revert him to his original body, act as the creature while fighting Alicia and act dead.”
“What a daring proposal. Are you sure?” Colus said.
“Yes.” The Queen said.
“Deal.” Colus agreed.
“Wait, Mom.” Alicia interrupted. “You can’t do this. Colus hasn’t said what gets from this deal.”
“He does.” The Queen said. Alicia looked perplexed.
“Mother intuition is always scary,” Colus said.
Both mother and son knew what the deal was. It was a deal to stop the experiment on the humans, monsters, and demons subject. They agreed to it without speaking a word.
“Get ready, Alicia. We need to make it trustworthy enough, so your people will believe it.”
“I know,” Alicia said in a discomforting tone.
Colus revert King Ratchet's demon form to its original. He used a scroll to transform himself into King Ratchet's demon form.
“Let’s begin,” Colus said.
They both clashed on to each other. The fight was intense enough. It destroyed half the surrounding buildings. On its final act, Alicia struck her sword into the chest of it. Colus disappeared into thin air.
Colus appeared at one of the buildings. He saw the crowd chanting Alicia’s name. Then, a group of soldiers brought the body of King Ratchet. Alicia acted sadly but remained composed. She didn’t want her people to saw her as weak. So, she behaved strong. Colus walked away from the scene and met his mother.
“Do you think she’ll be sad about her father's death?” Colus asked.
“Yes, but deep down, she knew what her father was like after she learned the truth. She doesn’t know what to do until you came. You’ve free her from that burden, and I thank you for that.” The Queen said.
“Good, but if she’s coming after me. I’ll kill her.”
“I guess, I take that as, 'I don’t know',” Colus said.
Colus walked past his mother and disappeared into the shadows. The Queen walked towards her daughter and hugged her. She looked at the now-dead king and acted crying. She hugged him close to her, tried to wake him up, but to no avail, no response.
