Chapter 26 It Begins
“Ok, time to go check on those secretive bastards.” Detective Kim shoved back the golden ring in his pocket, got up from the table and started walking towards the living room exit. He was going to see if the scientist were still sleeping soundly.
Right after Detective Kim left the living room, a suspicious shadow crept out of officer Hamlot’s dark vestment. It sneakily travelled underneath the table where it blended into the room’s shade. [Fwoosh!]
“Detective Kim come quickly!” On his way to check on the protected individuals, an officer came running towards him with a fearful expression on his face.
“What happened?” Detective Kim asked the officer.
“We can’t get through to that scientist from room 3. We tried opening the door but it won’t budge. What should we do, pound it down?”
“Lead the way!” Detective Kim started running behind the officer. “Who was in room 3 again?”
“It’s that man with the sissy name who glared at you earlier.”
“Mr Shaw.” By the officer’s rudimentary description, Detective Kim knew right away who he was talking about. “That feisty brat. Are you sure you didn’t hear him inside?”
“Yes, sir. He’s unresponsive. It’s over here.”
They arrived outside the safe room where Deleon was. Detective Kim didn’t bother knocking on the door. He gave the order the smash it down. [Boom!] The moment the room door collapsed, Detective Kim, followed by 2 other officers rushed inside. [Thud! Thud!]
“Mr Shaw! Hm?” Shifting his eyes around the room like a vigilant crow, Detective Kim noticed Deleon on the bed with headphone over his head. Though the door had just been busted through he was still sound asleep.
“What the… he’s still here and he’s in one piece?”
“Detective look.” One of the officers showed him a broken chair. “He must have stuck this behind the lock to prevent anyone from entering.”
“Geez, these troublesome….” Detective Kim let out a breath of stress then turned around, facing the 2 officers. “It seems this was a false alarm. You two stay here and safeguard him. I’m going to check on the others.”
After Detective Kim left the room, the officers glanced at each other then looked at Deleon. “How can he be sleeping so peacefully when his life is at stake?”
“Beats me. I know that I wouldn’t be able to take a wink if my life was being targeted.”
“Speaking of which, will we be okay? They said an elite assassin will be coming to claim these people lives.”

“Stop worrying and keep your eyes peeled. We are both trained officers with guns. Also, they are so many officers securing this compound. Elite assassin or not, there is no way a human could sneak in here without being noticed.”
“Yeah, your right.” The other officer agreed. “But, what If the assassin does get passed the security outside?”
“Then we’ll pump them full of lead. Ha-ha-ha.”
As the officers continued to converse, they felt the temperature drastically increasing which caused a lot of sweat to start pouring from their faces.
“Is it just me or is it getting extremely hot in here?”
“Did somebody turn off the AC? I can’t stand this anymore. I’m going to the kitchen to get some ice from the freezer.”
“Wait for me. I want some too.” [Step! Step! Step!]
Moments after the officers left the room, a streamline of flames teleported inside that brought about the manifestation of Crimson Scorpion. [Fwoosh!] She quickly noticed her target sleeping soundly on the bed, therefore she began reaching for the blade at her rear.
“Fu-hu-hu-hu. This man is still fast asleep even under the influence of my heat? He should be an easy kill.” Crimson Scorpion went to the bedside with her searing sword pointing down at Deleon’s chest.
“Hm... Hm…” Deleon started feeling the heat radiating through his dreams which prompted him to slowly open his eyes. [Blink!] “Huh? Who?”
“Shh!” Before Deleon could get a word out, Crimson Scorpion placed a finger on his lips. “I don’t like killing pretty men but, you’re on the list, babe. Sorry.”
“Hm!! Hm!” Deleon was struggling to speak, he couldn’t utter a single understandable word.
“I know that look of despair in your eyes. Don’t worry. You won’t be lonely in the afterlife. Your friends are already waiting for you on the other side.”
“Hm!” Hearing this made Deleon’s blood froze. [Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump! Ba-dump!]
“Oh my. It looks as if you are about to die from a heart attack. I won’t allow it. Tonight you shall die by my hands.” Crimson Scorpion unleashed her sinister aura which immediately burnt away Deleon’s clothes. Now she could stab his naked flesh as she pleased. “Bye-bye, cutie.”
[Whoosh! Clang!] Crimson Scorpion’s sword started moving swiftly to penetrate Deleon’s chest, however, a resplendent chained-blade appeared out of nowhere and wrapped around its sharpness, preventing it from impaling its target.
“What the..?” Crimson Scorpion shifted her vision above where she spotted her golden nemesis crawling out of the ceiling. “Tainted Scorpion? So you came as I predicted. Fu-hu-hu-hu! Do you think you can kill this man before I do?”

“He will die by my hands.” Tainted Scorpion replied coldly.
“Let’s see you try!” [Whoosh!] Crimson Scorpion used her other weapon to cut apart the chained-blade which bound her sword. Next, she quickly stabbed downwards at Deleon’s neck.
“Ahhh!” Deleon prevented the sword from piercing his neck by sacrificing his right arm. This allowed Tainted Scorpion to retaliate.
“Shadow Crawler!” Tainted Scorpion blended into the ceiling’s darkness then swiftly came out of the shade behind Crimson Scorpion, delivering a deadly kick to her spine. [Boom!] While soaring over the bed, Crimson Scorpion tried her best to cut off Deleon’s head. She was relentless that way.
“No, you don’t!” Tainted Scorpion had to drag Deleon’s feet to save his head from getting chopped. Only the headphone that he had on was cut apart.
“Hell Evade!” [Fwoosh!] Crimson Scorpion prevented herself from crashing into the wall behind her by teleporting to the room’s entrance. [Thud! Thud!] As her feet caressed the smashed door below, she glared at her nemesis who had captured her prey with chains. “Don’t get conceited bitch. You think I didn’t plan for this?”
Crimson Scorpion used her arcane telepathy to communicate with her legion. “Black Scorpions she’s here!” [Fwoosh! Fwoosh!] Multiple assassins garbed in black vestment started appearing inside the room one after the other. Their appearances were mystifying to the layman’s eyes.
‘What the heck are those?’ Deleon screamed internally. It was the first time in his life experiencing such overpowered scenery. ‘That assassin in red just turned into flames and teleport? How is that humanly possible? Am I dreaming right now?’ Deleon quickly receded this thought when he felt how realistically tight the chains were wrapped around him.
‘No, this is definitely not a dream. But how can this be happening? Who are these assassins and where the hell are the cops that are supposed to be on guard?’
……..
“Detective.”
“Hm?” Finished checking up on the other scientists, Detective Kim came across the 2 officers inside the kitchen chugging down cold water and sapping their heads with ice. “What are you two doing here? Shouldn’t you be guarding that man?”
“We ahm…”
“The temperature was really soaring so we came here to cool down with cold beverages and ice.”
“What the hell are you two mumbling about?” Detective Kim looked at his watch to check the temperature. “It’s only 27 degrees Celsius. Stop messing around and go back to your post.”
“Yes, sir we will….” [Boom!] A loud bang interrupted the officer’s speech, moreover, alerted every cop inside the compound. “What was that?”
Detective Kim crushed his cigarette, tossed it on the kitchen counter then reach for his handgun positioned around his waist. “It came from room 3! I have a bad feeling in my gut. You two, with me!”
Detective Kim dashed out of the kitchen with the two officers following behind. “Every active team be on the lookout for assassins! I believe we’ve been infiltrated! Make sure to secure the other scientists I’m going to check on the situation.” [Chep! Chep! Chep!]
[Boom! Boom!] 2 dark figures suddenly crashed out of room 3. “Kyah!” One of the officers chasing behind Detective Kim stumbled on his buttocks when he witnessed this scene. “W-who?”
“Get up off your ass! We have a job to do! Catch those bad guys!” Detective Kim helped up the scared officer. Together they aimed their guns at the silhouettes. [Bam! Bam! Bam!]
“Are those gunshots?” Glancing towards the entrance where she had just smashed away two Black Scorpions, Tainted Scorpion saw them dodging a storm of bullets. “I better get out of here before I attract too much attention.”
[Whoosh!] Anna created some distance from the Black Scorpions by scaring them away with her chained-blade. While she was doing this, she searched for an escape route. “My Shadow Crawler ability won’t work when I’m carrying someone else. I will have to burst out of here the old fashion way.”
[Swoosh!] Anna used her vambrace to cut open a hole in the roof. She brought Deleon closer to her mien then spoke to him softly. “I’m not here to kill you but you will die if you don’t cooperate with me. Nod if you understand.”
Deleon wasn’t sure who to trust. Strange assassins were fighting to claim first dibs on his life, one of which had him bound in chains. After giving some thought to his predicament, Deleon decided to stick with the golden figure who was keeping him alive for now. He replied to Tainted Scorpion’s enquiry by scooting behind her.
“That’s good enough.” Receiving confirmation, Anna grabbed Deleon tightly then hopped out through the rough orifice in the ceiling.
“You’re not getting away with my prey, Tainted Scorpion! Minion’s after her!” [Fwoosh!] Crimson Scorpion turned into a streamline of flames that immediately teleported outside.

Journeys in the Fairworld: The Gatekeeper
Lindsey Fluger was only slightly past eighteen. There was nothing particularly special about her, save that she happened to be the right person at the right time. When Lindsey is asked to join an expedition to another world she makes the mistake of saying yes, plunging herself into a sea of perilous adventure and dark intrigue. Journeys in the Fairworld is a fantasy anthology series set in The Fairworld, a magical realm existing in parallel with our own world which is governed by a group elfin beings known only as “The Good Folk”. These mysterious entities work in secret to keep the peace between the myriad of peoples and nations which dwell in The Fairworld. Complex relationships and bitter rivalries emerge against a backdrop of constrained resources and conflicting values to produce a world of high adventure and tangled mysteries. This novel is technically already completed, and I am currently in the final stages of proofing or editing. As such, there may be a few typos and errors here and there. The final version should be about 130,000 words long, which I will be releasing in stages as I continue editing. I'd love to hear your feedback and comments!
