Chapter 25 Undisclosed Location
After Wade Blackwood wet himself in front of his colleagues, in addition to the officers who were on standby, he didn’t feel a tinge of embarrassment due to his heightened fears which had taken over. Detective Kim put more pressure on the other scientist for them to reveal their secret lab project.
“That’s enough. Stop frightening my companion or they might die from shock instead of your so-called assassin.” Deleon finally spoke up for the others. “How can we be sure that you’re not a part of the same group who wants us dead? Dirty cops are always influenced by money.”
“Hm? You’re a straight shooter aren’t you?” Detective Kim looked Deleon over. “What’s your name, kid?”
“Aren’t you already aware of our identities by the overview of our personal information?”
“Fhm-ha-ha. Yes, you are correct, Mr Shaw. I was only trying to be considerate. Since you don’t appreciate it, I’ll cut to the chase. If you are unwilling to cooperate with our pending investigation then I’m not sure how long we will be able to keep you people safe for.”
“Are you suggesting that you will toss us to the wolves if we don’t share our secret?”
“Pretty much.” Detective Kim disposed of his cigarette inside of an ashtray sitting on the table then motioned his legs to the exit. “It’s getting dark really quickly. Did you know most homicides are committed at night? I’ll be having a smoke outside for when you people are finally ready to talk.”
After Detective Kim vacated the living room, the 4 scientists gathered and began conversing in a hushed tone. “What should we do? Should we tell them? That Detective didn’t seem that bad.”
“Are you joking Monika? He was terrifying!” Wade’s body was still fidgeting.
“I agree with Wade. That man is not to be trusted.”
“Why do you say that Deleon?”
“His face, it is unpleasant to stare at.”
“What? You form your assumptions on him being untrustworthy based on his ugly mug?” Kate was surprised. “Not all men can be as handsome as you, my darling.”

“That’s not the only reason, Kate. I just….”
“Who cares about his scary face?” Moniker voiced her opinion. “The fact of the matter is we are alive right now because these officers are risking their lives to protect us. I’m willing to maintain my life at the cost of spilling the company’s secrets.”
“What she said is quite reasonable. Don’t you think team leader?” Everyone glanced at Deleon.
“Alright, I’ll go have a chat with the detective. But I won’t divulge the meat of our experiment. It’s highly possible that the people who want us dead already have a clue of what we were working on.”
“But how could they know? Was it cause of that chatty mouth Xavier who died in the explosion? He loved to visit bars on his day off. Sometimes he got so drunk, he would spill his mouth constantly.”
“Let’s not cast blame on the dead and try to maintain our survival first, alright?”
“Yes, we understand, team leader. Our safety is our top priority.”
……..
Night came swiftly and encompassed the heavily guarded abode which was situated at an undisclosed location. An officer who was supposed to be keeping an eye out at the sky was leaning against an Elij-Plum while yawing his mouth off.
“You lazy bastard, wake up!” Another officer came along and hit that drowsy cop on his head. “You’re hiding around here taking naps when you should be surveying the area?”
“Sorry about that, sir.”
“Don’t be sorry. Wake the hell up and do your job. And don’t forget to report in every 30 minutes.”
“Yes, I will remember, sir.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Youth these days are so damn lazy. Can’t even go one night without falling asleep.” The other officer walked away, tending to his patrol route behind the lavish residence.
[Yawn!] When the youthful officer recognized that his senior had vanished out of sight, he leaned back against the Elij-Plum tree with his arms folded underneath his chest; his eyes gradually shutting down. “Damn geezer, do you how much stress us youths have to face in our modern society? I need to rest.”

[Zzzzz! Zzzzz!] Skilfully positioned on multiple branches above the sleepy officer’s head was Crimson Scorpion along with her Assassin League of Black Scorpions. She transferred her thoughts to her minions by using arcane telepathic technique. “I’ve given you the locations of the targets who are currently resting inside the safe house. Spilt up in groups of two; take care of them silently and make sure not to kill any of the law enforcers. Only the targets pending for assassination dies tonight.”
“Yes!” [Voopf!] The Black Scorpions vanished their cloaked presence from the branches as soon as Crimson Scorpion gave the order.
“Now then, if I was that Tainted Bitch who never seem to have the capacity of staying dead, who would I target first?” Crimson Scorpion reviewed the list of targets in her head until something clicked. “Oh, haven’t I seen this man somewhere before? Fu-hm-hm-hm.”
…….
Inside the safe house, Detective Kim was walking around checking all of the rooms where the scientists were resting in. Each room had two police officers situated outside. How the rooms were set up, there weren’t any windows or apertures leading outside, thus the only point of entry was the doors that were being guarded by elite enforcers.
Finished checking on everyone’s safety, Detective Kim went back to the living room to put out his cigarettes in the ashtray. After doing so, he tapped his earpiece and spoke. “It’s been 30 minutes already. All teams report your status.” [Bzzz!]
“This is Ryan of team-2. Everything is clear on my end.”
“Donald from team-3. Clear also.”
“Pablo of team-4. No suspicious movements on the roof.”
“Carla of team-4. My end is clear as well.”
Detective Kim heard every team on duty reported in except for one. “What about team-1 who should be guarding the rear entrance? Did something happen?”
“This is Spencer, leader of team-1. Sorry I was taking a leak and couldn’t answer in earlier.”
“Ok, from now on make sure to report on time every 30 minutes. By the way, what of the other member on your team? He hasn’t reported in yet.”
“Oh, the last time I check on him he was dozing off by the garden. I will go over and wake him up right away.”
“Be careful.”
“I will, detective.” Spencer, leader of team-1 went back to where the young officer was dozing off by the Elij-Plum. Coming around the corner, he discovered the youth snoring against the tree. “This damn brat! He’s actually around here dreaming on the job. ”
Officer Spencer went over and slapped the youth awake. [Plow! Plow!] “Get up you lazy brat!”
“Huh? I’m up! I’m up!”
“This is Spencer reporting in. Hamlot of team-1 is also safe. The lazy brute was just sleeping.”
“Sleeping?” Detective Kim thought it best to replace the drowsy officer with one of more energy. “Have officer Hamlot come inside to rest if he’s feeling sleepy. I’ll send out a replacement.”
“Understood Detective Kim.” Spencer glared at the youth who he slapped awake. “You heard him. Go, you’re useless on guard duty.”
“Yes, yes. Thank you. I really needed some rest.” Hamlot picked up his legs and tossed them into the household. On his way inside, he was greeted by the replacement officer. Reaching the living room Hamlot dropped himself into the comfy sofa then went right to sleep. [Zzzzz! Zzzz!]
“These young people have no stamina nowadays.” Detective Kim was still inside the living room smoking a new cigarette. He dipped into his pocket, took out a golden ring which he stared intensely at. “This time for sure I’ll kill you, Tainted Scorpion.”

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.
