《Ishtar's smile》Chapter 8: Cursed, forgotten

If the first war of Mû turned out to be rather positive for the Great Slope's business, it will nevertheless conclude with a serious setback. Ashimora, founding queen of Reiner, died in battle against the Murrean fleet admiral, Meterana. This loss had a devastating impact on reinir's morale. We all knew at the time that peace would never again be an option. No civilization could forgive such an offense. Ashimora was a living legend, a confidant of Mara, the mythical empress of fates. I'll talk about that again. This subject is interesting but useless right now.
The important thing to remember is that Mara had such an impact on our universe's history that an empire was named in her honor! The famous « Empire of Mara ». Her companions were legends of tremendous strength, considered as gods even by Elohim. Therefore, no one expected her to die. Our kingdom, now without ruler, found itself in an unprecedented situation: who could seriously replace a mythical figure? The decision was not long in coming. It would be her biological son, Liziuss.
The fact that Ashimora had a son born naturally, i.e. without a surrogate mother, and that he reached enlightenment, was taken as an omen of manifest destiny. In his youth he was seen as a messianic figure. Of course, any educated individual would instantly understand that this served mainly as a convenient answer to overcome our loss. But Liziuss lived up to his reputation. He became the most powerful ruler of the Great Slope, then one of the greatest fighters in the whole universe!
I imagine that you, mysterious reader, are probably wondering how an almost exclusively female country would so easily accept to be ruled by a man. My wife used to say to me: « Of course, sweetheart, that a country made up almost entirely of chicks thinks it's fantastic to have a king! That's the worst insult we could do to the rest of the galaxy. Besides, our boy has an uncommon charm. All my officers dream about him! It's hard to think of a better icon. » Or something like that. I'm paraphrasing, slightly. Wait a minute... did I mention before that I was married? I don't want to reread myself to check. Well, let's just say that you know now.

Our glorious new monarch decided more or less immediately to direct the kingdom's efforts towards a single goal: vengeance. He financed the Atlantean rearmament and lobbied, through diplomacy, for an emperor to ascend their throne. The colonial status of Atlantis was quickly abandoned in favor of a protectorate, as an appeasement gesture, until they become again an independent state after six centuries. Ar'eloah flowed to the former mainland, now almost a vassal of Reiner. Atlantean knights were training with us. I personally evaluated about ten of them.
We had gone mad, totally convinced that our righteous anger would be enough to guarantee a crushing victory! No one could withstand this thirst for revenge! The obscene wealth that makes our country so proud allowed us to field armies of human slaves equipped with Ar'eloah devices, something as exceptional as it was insane. A billion fighters with the might of a young Eloah! An outrageous display, bordering on decadence. Sied also organized that war, for reasons far less passionate than ours however.
Our foes obviously saw through these efforts, especially the Aleans. One had to be completely blind not to notice! The border of Aleasis Vecna was closed and remained that way for good. Nevertheless, the Aprium as well as Mû did not stop sending gifts by the hundreds to convince us to remain peaceful. They went as far as to reauthorize slavery! Atlantis had been reduced to a subordinate level and we lost our Queen Mother. How could they think that a crude attempt at bribery would work? Liziuss accepted these offerings but proceeded with his preparations.
He named his sole daughter heir during a fabulous ceremony, giving her the name 'Ashimora II'. She would take over the crown in the event of his death. An entire fleet, legions of humans and a third of all our knights, crossed the border of Aleasis Vecna to attack all planets in its path. The Ahura Mazda found himself locked up in his own country. A second third, three hundred million mortals, left for the Aprium to crush their empire. The last third will rush towards Mû, Liziuss at its head, with the rest of our human armies, the whole of Sied and the Atlantean forces.

I guess we expected this invasion to be over in a few days. A sweet, silly delusion. Aleasis Vecna was effectively pinned down for much of the offensive, yet the Aprium managed to not only repel our assault force, but to held a bloody siege on Yah'les and Ganthra, shutting down a huge amount of supplies and depopulating our territory of its garrisons. The protectorates of Mara then united under a new banner, the « Coalition of Free and Independent Worlds », and set out to liberate their slaves, devastating the realm, slaughtering our allies.
Sied was logistically less reliable than we were, so half of its expeditionary force turned back to protect the homeland, opening a breach in our ongoing strike against the Murrean empire. This is how the Second War of Mû started: in a disastrous fight of attrition! The solar system was bombed daily for six years. Three quarters of all planets became uninhabitable, every orbital stations were destroyed and their populations ruthlessly exterminated. An uncontrollable, barbaric slaughter.
The queen of Sied, Freyja, supported by the Reinir admiral Xihe, managed to break through Mû's defenses and land. The battles will then spread everywhere: on ground, on sea and in the sky. Their moon was so severely shelled that only craters will survive. Liziuss managed to defeat Meterana but I don't know if he killed him. Afterwards, our monarch had no choice but to leave with his personal guard to prevent the Coalition from overrunning Reiner. Freyja took command from him. The emperor of fates was eliminated by her champion, Odin, ending all Murrean resistance.
The primordial empire, conquered! An achievement. Unfortunately, this brilliant triumph was soon to be counterbalanced: the Ahura Mazda had torn our army to pieces on its territory. He arrived less than a week later. His first action? To destroy Atlantis! He threw ocean and atmosphere into space with such violence that nothing was left behind. The ruthless lord finally moved on Mû to launch the most powerful ritual to ever exist: the Vremy'a'lun. A so dangerous spell that it can break the principles of reality itself. He used it to expel the entire star system outside the universe.
What happened next is unknown to me, for this is where the war ends for all of us, cursed and forgotten. So here is where my humble summary ends! It is not absolutely essential, but in the following part I will talk about what the Vremy'a'lun is and how it triggered the Flood. After that, we'll go back to lighter stuff.

A/N: The first three chapters are set in an ancient setting and then after that it's interstellar, so some patience is required. Does this novel have comedy? Yes. But that's not the main part.
