Rowa had heard the story about her parents before, but it had been a few years. A small pang of guilt spread through her heart as she heard about it again. She always went on about her powers, and enjoyed it when people spoke about how powerful she was in her abilities, but truth be told she had the power of two and a half people, the two being her parents, the half her own self.
Her thoughts then shifted to what the elder said. The heart of a dragon? She almost shifted out of her bird form from the shock of it. The elder wanted the stranger to go and slay a dragon and receive it's heart all so she could go on some kind of adventure because she had never left the village? Even for the elder this was far too much for a joke.
She had half a mind to drop out of her form and then toss a pillow at him, but she remained incognito within her bird form. It was the best way to spy after all. She had done this a few times when the others dropped their guard, making sure to catch their secrets. She never did anything with them, and she already knew many secrets due to the family coming to her for blessings and guidance on their issues.
Still… a dragon's heart. The elder wouldn't have asked for it randomly, just exactly why did they need a dragon's heart.
"Ah course, but don't ya think this may be a little rough for the young miss? I don't need no offence, but a dragon is no small business." Bob asked, which caused Rowa to clamp her beak shut in order to not just screech at him. A little rough? A little rough?! Oh he was going to get it! Once she was out of this form…

"Do not misunderstand, I am not asking you to go out and slay a dragon. There are many ways to acquire a heart of a dragon without directly slaying one. For example, the heart of a wyvern of drake, lesser dragons such as these hold the same item." He informed Bob.
Bob took a moment to register this, and as he did Rowa started to creep a little closer in order to hear more of what they were speaking of.
"Of course, you may decline the task and find another tribute." The elder reassured the man.
"If it's a heart you need, I'll do it. I'll protect the young miss best I can." Bob nodded confidently.
Rowa was about to caw when she paused to think. She didn't need protecting, but her thoughts quickly switched over to something else.
If she went with Bob on this quest, not only would Bob not be near her family to schemez she could probably just spy on what Bob thought about them. Something like this was a chance of a lifetime, so Rowa quickly flapped away back to her humble abode and got her affairs in order.
First she needed to make sure that her home was neatly organised before she left. When she returned she saw that everything was exactly as she had left it in the morning. Her bed was dishevelled, there were pots and pans about, some half caked in mould. There were even pieces of wood pilings that had not-so-neatly piled up in the corner, with half finished wood carvings littering the place too.
Perfect.
She didn’t need to organise anything. Instead she went and grabbed a pack before then taking her arm and then sweeping everything on her table into it. She hoisted it over her shoulder and then turned.

Then she was ready.
She walked out, pulling apart the cloth that made up her door, and then met solid metal.
“Oof.” She said as she shook a little before looking up to see the giant form that was Bob.
“Ah, sorry there miss, ah didn’t mean to startle you.”
“Well, are we going?”
Bob paused for a moment, obviously in though. “Aye miss, shall we?” He asked.
She nodded and then marched on forward. Bob didn’t ask how she knew this information, she wanted to be mysterious and aloof, so she didn’t explain it either.
Then the two set off, with the sun almost approaching noon.

City of Champions Online
Having found the tragic truth that an art degree is worth less than the paper it is printed on, Jacquelyn Jones is frustrated with her dead end work as a graphic designer for a marketing firm, finding new ways to try and convince people that this week's 50 cent off sale is actually worth driving to the store. She's tried other VRMMORPGs, but they've all been fantasy-based, with a couple sci-fi games thrown in. But she wants something more, something Super. Superhero VRMMOs have had a... subpar reception in the past, in part due to the fact that the nature of most MMOs makes for fairly unheroic tales. After the couple hundredth time blasting the same group of mooks from the same faction on the same street corner of the same city, using the same powerset as everyone else because you only have a few options, it is hard to think of yourself as a hero anymore. But then she heard about City of Champions Online. For the first time, a developer partnered with a tabletop RPG maker to use their system to create a VRMMORPG, and it was one of the systems designed to be used with superhero games! And despite the name, there was no getting stuck in the same city as all the other players. The game world was a detailed replica of the real world, down to having some of the same shops and restaurants in town. She could be whoever she wanted, whatever she wanted. Now, she just has to find a way to become the heroine she's always wanted to be.

8 164Cycles of Ruin
Civilizations rise and fall. Kith build them up and monsters, led by powerful dungeon keepers, bring them to ruin. For three thousand years the cycle has been maintained by the Guild of Chaos and its endless hordes of minions who—in absence of their long lost creators—have taken it upon themselves to keep the realms of the universe in balance. The Guild has grown efficient at this task, but some among its ranks have begun to ponder the utility of a universe that has been robbed of the very possibility of change. Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him. Now the young Master of House Doom must balance his growing interest in pursuing the trail of his father with the responsibilities that come with running a dungeon in service to the Guild of Chaos. To remain in good standing with the Guild, Basil has even accepted the task of mentoring an apprentice dungeon keeper, a young succubus named Elnora. It is at the tail end of her apprenticeship that the story begins; with a civilization poised to fall—its greatest heroes gathering for one last assault on the heart of darkness—and Basil striking up a conversation with his apprentice that will set into motion the unraveling of the universe. ***This is a rewrite and continuation of my story that was first posted on RoyalRoad a few years ago.
8 126Return of Chaos
For the longest time, it was thought that the citizens of Earth were the only denizens of the galaxy incapable of developing superhuman abilities — but recent events have flipped that assumption on its head. Between Austin Travis, Mote Emerson, Pierce Bradley, and their friends, Earth is now host to 12 Chaotics… as well as a myriad of mysteries surrounding them. From a new nemesis in the form of a clone, to connections to ancient technology from a long-lost civilization, to the ability to summon powerful legendary weapons, these 12 Chaotics have unknowingly become entangled in something larger than any of them have ever imagined. As if in response to these discoveries, the sinister machinations of galactic evil are churning. The metallic infection, a calamitous nanotechnology “disease” thought to have been vanquished 20 years ago, is slowly returning — and alongside it, a number of conflicts thought to be long past. While they only seek to better grasp their own abilities, Earth’s Chaotics will soon find themselves in the crossfire of returning threats and old heroes. These superpowered Earthians may not have chosen this path through life, but it will still be up to them to determine if history remembers them — to determine if history remembers the saga of the Keys. Return of Chaos is a direct sequel to Chosen Chaos, which begins the Key Saga novel series. Be sure to read Chosen Chaos first, to understand the plot and the characters thus far! Additionally, the Key Saga as a whole takes place 20 years after Rise. You will not need to read Rise to understand the events of Return of Chaos, however the latter will spoil many of the events that occurred in Rise, due to the simple chronology of taking place later in the timeline.
