Chapter 7
James looked at the notes he made, there were a few subjects that needed his attention.
Placement of the core members, the War and upgrading the guild were the three main subjects that needed his attention.
James picked up a list of names he made before the game started containing the names of students he thought would be capable of becoming elders in the guild. After quite some time James had written down the names of 4 students.
Sonja McLane, Rebeca Summerfield, Christene Walters and Feng Mian. Sonja would be the head of the Human Resources department, Christene would be head of the Finance department, Rebeca of the Resources department while Feng Mian would be Head Teacher of the Military department. The Human Resources, Resources and the Financial department would all be under the control of the Headmaster. The Military department would be managed by Crystal. Crystal would fill the second deputy leader position that was vacant up untill know.
James opened the Guild Management Tab. “Upgrade Guild”
[System Notice: Do you want to upgrade the Guild?] “Yes”
[System Notice: Checking available Resources. 10 000 Wood checked, 10 000 Stone checked, 10 000 Iron checked, 25 Gold checked. Beginning upgrade.]
At that moment the players on the outside saw a white light covering the area of the guild. After the light disappeared, the Guild area had a few more buildings. The Blacksmith and Shop were now positioned outside the Guild building. There were now two shops. One trading Resources and the other a Potion shop. Behind the Teleporter was a new building called the Military Academy and next to it was a Temple. The apartment block became 5 double story buildings and there was a Quest building next to the Guild building. A Lumber mill was placed next to the woods while a Quarry was close to the edge of the mountain.
[System notice: Upgrade Completed]
[System notice: Upgrade requirements for Level 3 Guild. All available buildings must be Level 2. Resources needed. Wood 20 000 units, Stone 20 000 units, Iron 20 000 units, Gold 50 pieces.]

James left his desk to inspect the improved Guild and its changes. As he walked through the door of his office, he noticed that he walked into another office. The office was smaller than his office with a desk and some painting of a broken-down castle on the wall. James left the office and came out on a balcony overlooking the inside of the guild building. On his left and right-hand side of the balcony were stairs leading down to the floor below. James followed one of the sets of stairs to the lower floor. When he got there, he noticed that there was an old fountain in the middle of the Guild building’s reception hall. The fountain had dark, murky water running down it. He also noticed that the Blacksmith, Shop and Quest Building were removed and replaced by more offices. Behind him there was now a meeting hall. James left the building.
James made his way to the Teleporter to meet the Headmaster and the new students that just entered the game. Just as James arrived at the Teleporter the headmaster walked out of it. Following behind her was Crystal and the new students joining the game.
“Sonja, can you get me someone to arrange an apartment for the new students. Can you also call Rebeca Summerfield, Christene Walters and Feng Mian and have them join us in my office, please?” Sonja acknowledged the command from James and left. “Headmaster, Crystal, please follow me to my office.”
James and the two ladies entered his office. James moved in behind his desk while the two ladies both took the seats in front of his desk. “Welcome to the game Crystal.” James greeted his sister. “Glad to be here.” James asked the headmaster if everything went smoothly in the real word. “Yes, it did. The students are all eager to join the game.” After chit-chatting for a while, Sonja and the other three ladies entered the office.

James looked at the ladies in the room. “Congratulations ladies, you are now all part of the core members of the guild.” James started appointing the ladies to their new positions in the guild. The ladies were happy about their promotions except for Sonja.
After James gave them their orders the ladies left the room. The headmaster saw Sonja was not happy and followed her out of the room. After a short while the headmaster entered James’ office again. She closed the door behind her while looking at James.
“Can you please explain to me why Crystal is one of the Deputy Guild Leaders and Sonja isn’t?” James looked up to the headmaster and stayed quiet for a while before answering.
James explained that it was a close call between Sonja and Crystal, but after the incident he decided on Crystal. He explained that Crystal had a better understanding of how games work and did the necessary research on the game. “But most of all, I trust my sister.” Without saying a word the headmaster stood up and left the office.
The headmaster went to look for Sonja and found out that she had logged out of the game. “This is going to be trouble”, she thought to herself.
Not even an hour had passed when James got a message saying he needed to attend a meeting in the Boardroom of the school. James went to his room, laid down on his bed and logged off.
He made his way to the board room where he found Sonja, the Headmaster, Crystal, Lidia and two Ladies. “What is this meeting about?” Lidia was the first to reply and asked James if he could explain the reason why Sonja is not a Deputy Leader. “The Headmaster should have told you the reasons for my decision.” James looked towards the Headmaster.
The lady next to Sonja looked at James.” The reasons you gave to the headmaster are not good enough. We think you are just being biased.” “You are truly trying to infuriate me.” Lidia stepped in before James could blow up. “James can you give me an example why you think Crystal is a better choice than Sonja.”
“Ok Ma’am, Sonja and Crystal with the knowledge you have of the game, give me the main reasons why we are playing the undead race?” Sonja thought for a while and could only come up with one reason. James stood waiting for Sonja’s answer.
“Ok Sonja do you any idea why?” Everyone in the room looked at Sonja. “The only reason I can think of is because you always play as the undead.” “Crystal please explain to everyone why we play the undead race.”
Crystal started explaining that her brother had three main reasons for picking the undead race. The first reason being that it was the race that he was the strongest with. The second reason was that the undead never tire, never need food and was immune to fear. The third reason was the legacy that he chose. After stating the three main reasons she went on to give some smaller reasons, explaining it to the ladies in the board room in detail.
After listening to the reasons, Sonja and the ladies realised that their comprehension of the game was low. Knowing the rules and the objectives of the game, did not make one knowledgeable about the game, and there was a lot more to the game that the Guild leader’ had to consider.
James looked at the ladies. “Satisfied now?” Lidia just nodded her head. James turned around and headed back to his gaming capsule.

Unbind
There is no rhyme or reason to the flow of life. Cora knows this better than anyone, a normal suburban girl living on the edge of a major city. But as she wanders through worlds and becomes part of a system unimaginably greater than herself, she realizes that returning home isn’t as simple as it seems... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The warning tags are added because there is a high potential of the content warned about occurring in several chapters. They are not meant to be the explicit focus of Unbind, but they will be recurring elements, albeit with scarce frequency. As a warning, there will be a note added before a chapter should it contain mature content. Updates will be posted every Sunday. As a fledgling writer, I appreciate any commentary!

Prime Magus of Earth
"In the beginning, I had no idea what was going on. My brother and friends were gone, my sight was gone, and yet I still saw things, things about this world that no one else knew. I'm not special, or gifted, anyone could have done what I did. I just got lucky, especially after everything that happened afterwards. Magic already existed, it always had. Humans just didn't know how to do it, didn't know how to nuture that small spark in them. Now you do." - Prime Magus of Earth, Alexander Sorin. November 2021 Update: So, it has been four years since I stopped working on this. Reading back, the first "book" is finished. It has what feels like an ending to an arc. Now it isn't a perfect story but I still like it and I can see myself starting the second book, might even this on Amazon or something. My biggest regret was never coming up with artwork for the cover though. Maybe I'll look into it.
