《Last Man Tournament: Altair》Chapter 14: Sin

Right after my sister had concluded her speech, I heard Gear’s voice in a scream of pain.

Gear? Gear!? I thought, despaired, almost forgetting the opponent ahead. Almost: she left pretty clear that loss wasn’t an option from the begging.

My single eye and ears useless, my nose filled with blood, my body so afflicted with pain that depends in the tact was unimaginable; I had only my mind, my thought acceleration program running so intense that I felt it burning my brain, and I was starting to think that not all of the blood coming from my nose was because I had broken it. I was nauseated and the agony made even breathing hard. I had only my mind, and if I focused on the pain, on the absolute hopeless situation I was in, I would die.

She said for me to reach for my opponent's eyes, but even though, if I could aim at this situation, I would have done it already! I thought, jumping a step to my back, retreating.

Besides, the melted armor aside, the movements worked because the enemy didn’t know what each number meant or was too confused right after being damaged, but by screaming where I should attack next, it’s obvious that he will protect this part of his body! Involved in the extreme cold of the energy barrier just behind me, it was easier to know when and from where the next attack would come by the heat; but, even this wouldn’t work forever: for each second I stayed close to the energy barrier, the armor that was limiting the enemy’s movements was getting harder and harder, and, when it freezes completely, he would be able to free himself and move normally again..

But Gear is smart, she wouldn’t say something like that without think: there must be something I still can do!, soon, I started to hear metal cracking. And feel the cold irregularly, as if the barrier was getting closer, but only to me, as if bending specifically to my direction! Fuck, Mercury! If I get out of here alive, I’ll make you pay!

Then, “CRACK!”, I listened to the chains that were sealing the opponent's power being shattered, exploding, and fall, like a rain of glass, all around me. The wind exploded in a second, and I knew that the enemy had approached, jumped the entire distance between us in an instant when the points that the energy barrier was making, as if trying to impale me from behind, stopped and went back to their original position, Mercury probably shitting himself just by thinking about the possibility of killing by accident my enemy and his patron.

I could already hear the euphoric scream of my enemy too much close from me, and I knew that I had no option but to use my secret weapon against him. But, even though, something felt off: should I really aim for his eyes? I doubt this attack will have any effect against his protection..., I thought, sweating cold, already spinning around myself and starting to lift my good leg.

No! This can’t be! This won’t work, I know! There’s no way an upper class’ concentrated protection wouldn’t be able to stop this kind of damage! I don’t know what that gray stuff is, but it’s definitely hard! I was already spiting the secret weapon, having my back to the opponent, and taking the fragment with my feet, directing when I continued: wait, did Gear knew about my hidden weapon in the first place? She must have been watching this from the beginning, so there’s a chance, but… no, it wasn’t something that anyone could have noticed, I got it literally inside one of my opponents, and if she knew about it, she would have told me to use it to kill my enemy when I had a chance, when I gave the first blow at his face (I don’t know if it would work after this, once that he started to reinforce his skull more and more)! So, she knew a way for me to kill him without even having this?!

I was about to show the sole of my foot and the fragment that it was caring, to the opponent, when I finally understood: reinforce, a way to kill him even without this weapon... ah... of course.

A Guardian Angel. It didn’t matter if you were a man or a woman, a Worker, a Soldier or an Executive, everyone had one inside its brain, and they were all the same: a chip with one centimeter of length that was encrypted in the DNA of everyone to be formed and sustained using one’s diet that no one could escape or it would die, this way being naturally formed, without the need for large scale surgeries. It was a powerful tool, yes, but it didn’t have this length because of this fact, or because it was designed eight million years ago, but because the explosives in it that were triggered when a Sin was committed.

And, between the few sins that existed, there was: “forcefully remove or try to destroy the chip”.

I tilted my leg just a little, throwing the Douchebag’s brain fragment that contained the chip into the energy wall at my side and, hiding it with my own body, while my opponent was laughing, seeing just the kick coming for his protected face and my leg that would be properly pulverized by him.

If it wasn’t by the explosion that burned his now unprotected side, broke his ribs and turned the left side of his chest and the armpit of same side concave, destroying his heart, making his bones pierce the organ and turning his interiors into a jelly with the impact of the explosion.

I still couldn’t see thru the impenetrable wall of advertisements, but I felt perfectly the heat of the blood being coughed on my face.

“Im- Impossible! I- I was there when the last star died! I was there when the Divinity materialized! I was there when your God was just a tool! I’M THE CLOSEST TO GOD! I’M A SAINT, I’M A CEO!”

“I DON’T CARE!”, I replied, my foot reaching the enemies face, the stuff that was protecting it just a minute ago nowhere to be found, probably keeping his blood being pumped, substituting his heart; and, when I felt ice-cold spears piercing my body too fast, stealing all the heat from it, killing me, I rapidly turned my leg, put the opponent's body in front of me, forcing Mercury to retreat the barrier. Even though he wasn’t fast enough to do it properly and allowed me to press the enemy’s neck against a fraction of the energy field: pressing even more my foot against his face, I broke it off of the frozen neck and to away, where it felt to the ground and shattered in a thousand glassy pieces.

I had won.

Not before even more freezing spears came from behind and, this time pierced thru my head, though.
