《I Shall Prevail》Chapter 6: Familiars

Juliet was shocked and unsure of what to do, these changes occurred when a person’s core made a breakthrough but she tried sensing Adir’s core and she couldn’t see anything. She herself had reached the elementary stage.
It’s strange, he must have poured something on himself in his sleep. – she thought.
“Get changed so you can have breakfast.” – Juliet.
“Yes, mother.” – Adir
Adir was starting to get changed when he started to notice many differences on himself. He hadn’t noticed them before as he had just woken up but now he was fully aware of everything. He observed himself in a mirror inside the room and noticed his small body had gotten a bit muscular. His dark hair and skin had a shine to it and he felt very light and full of energy.
A sudden thought emerged to him, he had seen these things in a book. This would happen when one’s core enhanced. He closed his eyes and focused on his core. What revealed to him was a tiny orb the size of a bean, it was pulsing and pumping energy to his whole body.
As he focused he started to faintly feel all the mana around him, it was floating all around and his core was slowly but continuously absorbing it.
He was fascinated, he was about to go out and tell his mother about this achievement when he heard a bird screeching, it grabbed his attention and made him drawn to it even though it wasn’t that loud. He felt a sense of familiarity even though it was the first time he had heard it. While pondering about it he heard the door close softly followed by a woman’s voice in his head.
Adir
“Huh?” – Adir said. He quickly turned around and just as quickly froze in place when he saw what stood behind him. It was a giant bird, it looked like it’d swallow him whole. Being at least two meters in height, he was tiny in front of it. It had white feathers with red tips, a long curved beak and thick sharp claws on its legs. With bright yellow eyes its brows were scowled making it look angry. It deeply stared at Adir.

Adir was scared and yet he knew it’d do him no harm.
“Was th-“ Adir
You mustn’t speak of your core or cultivation level to anyone young master, I will return during night time. We will speak again then.
The bird hadn’t moved its beak at all and yet Adir knew it was this bird who had been speaking, it had a soft voice, a woman’s voice. As soon as she had finished speaking she took a posture as if ready to lift off before suddenly vanishing with a soft flap of its wings. The entire thing had been a short amount of time.
Adir was full of questions, he felt a sort of connection with this bird. Had she wanted, she could have killed him then and there. But she didn’t, he had many questions like who was she, how could she speak, was she really a bird, and why did she call me young master? He remembered that later today she’d be back. He would do as she said and maintain his cultivation a secret at least for the time being.
It was finally time for bed, Adir had to totally lie to his mother and say he had actually covered himself in oil in his sleep but didn’t know what to say about his muscles suddenly enlarging from one day to the next. After finally being bed, he was eagerly waiting for the bird to show up once more. He was counting minute by minute and the bird wouldn’t show up. Just as he was about to get up he felt a small gust of wind brush by. It was surprising since he didn’t have any windows. The bird seemed to go through walls or just appear out of thin air.
Adir quickly got up, he stared at the large bird in front of him and it stared back. He was eager to know the answers to his questions.

Climb up young master, we will explain everything. – Bird
Adir heard the voice once more in his head, it was speaking directly to his mind. He spared no time and quickly jumped up on it, grabbing on by its feathers.
The bird again, took a posture of taking off and this time Adir was going to travel with it. Adir didn’t dare miss a thing and with wide eyes watched as they took off. The bird had only made a gentle flap of its wings when they were already high up in the sky. Adir had only seen a sudden tear in time, one second he was in his room and the other he was hundreds of meters off the ground.
As Adir looked below he could faintly see his town, he felt his body turning numb as he realized how high up he really was. He would fall to his death would he let go. Not daring to continue looking, with all his strength he held on tightly to the bird, wrapping his arms around it not daring to let go. With teary eyes and a frowned face he started to scream.
“W-Waaa I’m going to…t-to diee! I should have stayed with mommy! M-mom! H…(GASP)..Help!” – cried Adir, he regretted coming, he would have been safe at home had he stayed.
M-master! Don’t cry, i-it’s okay look. We are coming down.. see? Don’t worry master I’ll keep you safe. - Bird
Hearing the woman’s words Adir slowly opened one eye to inspect and saw they were now on firm ground and swiftly jumped down not wanting anything to do with the sky for the time being. He calmed down once he had both feet on firm ground. He wiped his eyes and continued to look around. He could see they were in a small cave with one entrance. Looking out he could see they were pretty far from town, it looked really peaceful with the big white moon hanging in the sky.
Hello young master. – Deep voice
Adir was caught off guard, he gasped and turned. He hadn’t heard this voice. It definitely wasn’t the bird. This was a deep voice, that of a man. It was a coarse rough voice, it would scare anyone who suddenly heard it especially at this time and from the darkness.
Adir looked inside the cave but couldn’t spot anything, the bird was standing right next to him so he felt somewhat safe. It was when two feet stepped into the light that Adir finally spotted it. A dark wolf with deep red eyes. Its fur was extremely dark allowing it to combine with the darkness, it was close to two meters tall on its four legs and two and a half meters long. With a broad body it was a huge beast capable of making the biggest of man freeze in terror.
