《Pilgrim》Divine Intervention

“Who... who did you say you were again?” The man finally managed to ask. He still remained tense, and in a fighting stance, unwilling to back down.
Sam's eyes were still glowing. He wasn't sure how they were, but he figured it helped to match the man's fierceness.
“I am Sam Sander,” came his response. His voice was enhanced in this rage-like state. It sounded ominous, “They've been calling me 'Pilgrim.'”
The man let his guard down, finally. He shook his head.
“I'll be. You're the angel from the news report. Beat up a couple of wannabe thugs, and have been the talk of the town ever since.” He raised his hands up to signify the fight was over. “Pleasure to meet ya. I'm Tyrone Johnson. Friends just call me 'TJ.'”
TJ extended his hand upwards to Sam. After taking a moment to calm down, Sam descended and gripped TJ's hand. Even his handshake was intimidating.
I'm the one with superpowers, but this guy is the scary one.
“First of all, TJ, I owe you an apology. I was wrong to assume the worst of you from the beginning. I have no excuse for--”
“I get it,” TJ interrupted, “Big scary black man with a gun. Doesn't make it right, but I get it. Wouldn't expect that behavior from an angel though, if I'm being honest.”
Sam dismissed his wings and spear.
“The thing is, I'm not an angel. The long and short of it is that an angel named Evangelos just appeared one day, gave me these powers, and quoted some Scripture at me.”
“So you have met an angel? Wow... I have so many questions... Which verse did he mention, by the way?”
“It was umm... Matthew 5:16. 'Let your light so shine before men.'”

TJ laughed wildly and kept shaking his head in disbelief.
“Why is that funny?” Sam finally had to ask.
Still laughing, TJ took off his jacket and showed his right arm to Sam. As he read the words inked on TJ's arm, a chill went down Sam's spine.
Along his right arm, he wore the same verse of Scripture that Evangelos had quoted just a few days prior.
“Do you think it's coincidental?” Sam pondered to himself and out loud.
“With my God? I doubt it's a coincidence, my man. Divine Intervention. I had this tattoo done a few years back, after my wife and baby were taken from me. That was her favorite verse. She always told me to show God's light in these dark times. That's why I volunteer... and why I occasionally help 'clean up the streets', like from the other night.”
Sam did not know what to say. This had definitely been the person meant to help him. He even appeared to be a believer. Now, he needed to let him know and get him up to speed.
“Can we sit down? Maybe grab a bite? There's some stuff we need to talk about, I think.”
“Sure,” TJ replied, “Not like this day can get much weirder."

World Story: Biographies of Extraordinary People
Important note: I’d like to thank Dr. Buller for their advice on dialogue by their critical review. And I’m on a one-month break to post the first revised chapters on Scribble Hub. Please stay tuned! Even in faraway worlds, every folk had a story, and monsters came in numerous shapes and sizes. However, heroes never existed in this otherworld. Even the most idealistic understood this deep within. But as they abandoned their humanity at times, they quickly regained it. It was not that they became human again. They always were. So what happened when the monster devoid of humanity appeared? Well, the “heroes” sought to slay it at all costs either way, lest it would be the end of their stories. A portal/isekai fantasy that I wanted to deconstruct some elements within. Expect a whole ton of references and dialogue because I’ll deliberately write it more like a light novel. The last thing to consider is that Japanese names in my novel will come with kanji/hiragana characters within parentheses. The same goes for any other derived from non-Latin writing systems. It’s because none of the names I write will be accidental or random. They’ll all have meaning. New chapters Monday to Thursday at 11:00 PM (GMT+8), though sometimes I can’t. Credit for the cover art goes to HWPerfidy. She’s a freelance artist on this site, and I’d love anyone who shows her support.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
