《Pilgrim》Angel in the Junkyard

“Yeah, I'm talking to you,” the man shouted, “Or should I just beat the answers out of you?”
Sam looked at him from across the street with a sense of dread in his chest. He could just fly off, but he thought it only fair to come clean. Even if it meant there was a chance of an inevitable beating. He walked toward the junkyard with his arms in the air.
“Whoa, I'm unarmed, I mean no harm,” he stated as calmly and confidently as he could.
“Tell me why you've been watching me.”
“Okay, okay,” Sam looked to the ground like a lost puppy, trying to find a way to tell the truth without sounding insane. Or just plain stupid.
“I had watched you fight last night, at the gas station. The honest truth is, I just wanted to make sure you weren't a threat to the city, like those gang members.”
The man looked Sam up and down. He laughed.
“What? A threat? I'll ignore the hints of judgmental racism for a moment, because I want to know who you think you are? Are you like an undercover cop or something? You look pretty scrawny.”
Sam flinched at his words, because he knew he was judging a book by its cover. The best way out of this was to be honest.
“Yes, you're right. I was in the wrong to think the way I did. My name is Sam. I'm... I guess you could say I'm a preacher now, at the Tabernacle.”
The man laughed again. “A preacher? Look, I'm a lot of things, but I'm not an idiot. Are you just scoping the place out to rob me?”
“No!” Sam exclaimed, “I'm telling you the tru--”
“Fight me,” the man interrupted, “If you're truly a vigilante preacher, then you must be able to take me down, right? Let's go!”

Before Sam could protest, the man had gone into his boxer fighting stance and came at him. He was quick on his feet, and on Sam in just a few short moments. Should he just take a hit, or risk giving up his identity?
The man did not give a second to think before he started swinging at Sam. These were not wild punches being thrown, either. These were meticulously thought out attacks.
To Sam's surprise, he was dodging them. A lightning fast right hook, and he dodged left, narrowly avoiding a broken nose. A powerful uppercut, and he swayed backward out of harm's way.
These powers must enhance my reflexes, too. I've never moved this fast!
The man kept advancing, sweat falling from his brow. You could tell in his eyes that he was shocked at how none of his punches were landing. Still, he kept the attack going strong, not letting up.
Sam kept backing up, deeper into the junkyard, avoiding punches and not wishing to throw one back. It almost seemed deliberate, where the man was forcing him to move...
Sam felt something beneath his feet trigger. The man had purposefully led him into a trap! As his foot activated the pressure-sensitive trap, a bola-type device shot forward to his ankles. It wrapped around his legs tightly, and strung him upward, leaving him flailing like a fish out of water.
“You're too quick. Who are you, really?” The man was now more serious than he was before, and seemed distressed. “Did someone send you out here? I'm trained for taking down any threat, you know! I don't care if they send an army of you freaks, punks like you don't scare me! I can handle anything, I ain't scared!”
As the man continued to rant, Sam's conversation with Evangelos came back into his mind.

God is sending someone my way, Just as Moses had Aaron. This guy isn't scared of anything. He's everything that I'm not.
The man continued to rant, getting louder now, “Give me one good reason why I shouldn't use your head as a punching bag!”
Sam's eyes glowed a bluish hue, and his wings formed on his back. They lifted him up so he was no longer upside-down. He summoned his lance and cut the bola cords effortlessly. He spoke.
“Because you are the one I'm supposed to find."

Project TheirWorld: Book Two - Tatterskin
**IMPORTANT: Because I am trying to reconcile some of the consistancy issues due to unexpected changes in how I've decided to write the story, this story is to be renamed/reordered. I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. The Tutorial (completed, but unedited) is now to be concidered as Book One of Tatterskin. Tatterskin will contiune without real inturruption, though "Book Two" is really going to be the rest of the series with multiple volumes. Sorry guys! I've gone and brought the chaos of my real life into the storyverse T-T. ----- Dassah Graydon was just another human woman looking for adventure in her life when she moved to the academic floating continent, the Enclave. But while she wanted to escape her mundane reality, she quickly discovers that her life there – with the exception of all the crazy aliens and the unusual setting – was no different than her life on Earth had been. After spending a couple of months getting used to the place, she finally got the chance to play the popular new VRMMORPG, TheirWorld. As she is drawn deeper and deeper into the game, however, she begins to realize that her in-game life is far more connected to the happenings of reality than she could have imagined. Finding herself in the middle of a conspiracy that threatens her life and the lives of the people around her, Dassah must decide whether she allows herself to be a puppet, or she finds the determination to become the master of her own fate. This is a Project: TheirWorld story, and there is a prequel story, The Tutorial (completed, but unedited) but if I am doing my job, you won't need to have read that to enjoy this one. ____ The story will usually update once a week, sometime on Fridays JST. The updates on Royal Road L will be about 1 chapter behind my main WordPress site found here: Project: TheirWorld. This will change, as the WordPress site will have holiday releases and RRL will not. Thank you for reading, and the support! :) ____

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

World Servers - Dawn
The year is 2143, and much of the world’s population has been digitized for decades. Different servers are configured for different purposes. Some servers are pure gaming worlds. Others are offshoots of fringe political experimentation or regimes. Still others are based around ethnic or nationalist sentiment. Some replicate past times or past eras. And still others have been designed as totally imaginary locations created out of the dreams of programmers and the Artificial Intelligences that have been used to build and drive them. The gaming guild I Like Big Booty is a loosely affiliated group of friends and avid players. Theirs is an international guild which spans multiple servers, mostly running raids, ganking other players in PVP, and generally trying to build up the funds to purchase their own home world server. On one of the most populous servers – designed to resemble 20th century earth – a small raid team running a boring and routine run in Washington DC, comes across something that might change the fate of Virtual Reality across the solar system. Note: Per request, the title has been changed, though I might change it again when if I come up with something a little better.

Living as a Demon
Jonathan was living the life of a normal human male in modern-day society, until he was rudely awakened one night by a summoning circle that ripped him out of his reality and dumped him into a new world filled with magic, demons, and…mouthy young orphan girls?! Now Jonathan must navigate the trials of playing guardian to a preteen, learning to unlock his inner demon, and somehow managing to find a dang pair of pants! Welcome! I'm E.O. Tenkey; thank you for considering Living as a Demon, my third released work here on Royal Road (following Not a Manga and Mr. Familiar)! Let's set some expectations, shall we? • Not much hard profanity (chapter 1 is the exception!)• Human MC! Our protagonist is a bona fide homo sapiens. Which is not to say there won't be demons, demonic powers, and what-have-you, but this isn't some grimdark exploration of the life and times of a nihilistic, amoral killing machine.• Slice of life. My previous works always ended up there, so might as well get ahead of the curve!• Weekly updates, and a completed story: I will post a single chapter per week on Wednesdays until the story is complete (extra chapters are rare, but do happen).
