《Trash No More》Gaining a Grandfather

Jake and Ling Lin quickly walked out of the warehouse. Jake looked at Ling Lin with a big grin on his face.
“Well we got some new equipment.” Chortled Jake. “Grandfather is awesome.”
“Jake it is only what you are due now.” Replied Ling Lin. “Since you can now cultivate, you are allowed resources from the sect. Do you still want to head to the library?”
“Of course I do!” Replied Jake rubbing his hands together. “I have no techniques only the basic martial arts we all learned as kids. I want a fist, sword and body technique. Maybe even a spear, bow and knife as well.”
“Jake calm down.” Said Ling Lin with a grin. “A person can only slowly cultivate and learn techniques. Pick a couple and start from there. I will help and grandfather will too if you have any questions or problems.”
They walked for a little while and finally arrived at the library. There was an old man sleeping in a chair at the entrance. Jake had never seen him before but Ling Lin walked up to him and bowed to him.
“Greeting Elder Wu.” She said seriously.
“Little Lin you have finally visited this old man again.” Elder Wu replied with a smile after opening his eyes. “Did I not tell you to call me Old Wu? Who is this with you? His aura seems familiar.”
“Old Wu this is my friend Jake.” Replied Ling Lin. “He has come to get some cultivation techniques. Grandfather has sent us since it is found that Jake can now cultivate.”
Jake bowed respectfully.
“Greeting Elder Wu.” He said. “Please take care of me.”
Old Wu took a long look at Jake and then smiled at him. He released his aura and quickly studied Jake. Like grandfather he found Jake’s dantian to be fully healed with a large size and very pure qi. He was very happy that Jake could now cultivate.

“Ah now I remember you Little Jake.” Said Old Wu with a smile. “I can remember your grandfather John bringing you here when you were very young. I was very sad at his passing, we were great friends. Please call me Grandfather Wu, I insist.”
Jake made an even deeper bow to Old Wu.
“I would be honored to call you grandfather.” He replied seriously. Jake felt a warm feeling in his heart because of Old Wu. He had no family for so long and it made him happy. He then took a bright robe out of his ring.
“Grandfather please accept this meeting gift then.” Said Jake, handing the robe to Old Wu.
Old Wu smiled brightly at Jake’s gift. He had much better robes but he was touched at this meeting gift. He knew Jake had very little. He knew quite a lot about Jake in fact. He had been keeping an eye on him for the past year in case some big troubles arose. This just proved what he knew about Jake. He was a kind, honorable child and seemed to be filial as well. He seemed so like his grandfather and father it was uncanny.
“Thank you Little Jake.” He replied. “I will have to get you a meeting gift as well. I have something in my house that your grandfather gave me many years ago. I will return this to you.”
In fact Old Wu had taken a lot of things from Jake’s villa after it was found that he could not cultivate. He did this so it would not fall into the hands of the Wang family. They had coveted Jake’s possessions since his parents had disappeared. He had been like a brother to Jake’s grandfather along with Ling Mu. John was the elder brother, Ling Mu the second brother and Old Wu the third and youngest brother. They had met in the sect from very young and formed a real bond. There were very few who would remember this. The three brothers had gone on a lot of adventures together and saved each others lives many times.

Jake could not believe what he was hearing. One of his biggest regrets was losing the family’s villa and all the possessions. If he could get some back that would be great.
“Oh grandfather that would be so great.” He replied. “We came here to get some cultivation techniques. Could you please guide us?”
“I have no techniques only the basic martial arts we all learned as kids, Grandfather.” Said Jake earnestly. “I want a fist, sword and body technique. Maybe even a spear, bow and knife as well.” He was so excited at the chance to learn mysterious and powerful techniques.
Old Wu thought about this for a second.
“Grandson, for now stay on the first floor.” Old Wu replied. “Start with just a basic fist, sword and body techniques. There are lots of different types, Little Lin can help you pick some out. Pick some that you get a good feeling with when you look at them. Later after you cultivate some basic techniques and I get a sense of your aura, I will advise you on some proper techniques.”
In fact he had a number of techniques that he and his brothers had obtained over the years. They were not in the library. They had not wanted other people getting these powerful techniques, especially the Wang family. He would go through these later and pick a few for Jake.
“Thank you Grandfather Wu.” He replied bowing again. “We will look around and pick some basic techniques. Let’s go Ling Lin.”
As they entered Old Wu looked at them with a happy look on his face. He had never married and had a family, he was the typical cultivator who would not let anything get in the way of his cultivation. As he grew older he realized how much he had missed in doing this. But maybe he could make it up with Jake and Ling Lin. They could be his family, he had a lot he could teach to a grandson and granddaughter. He closed his eyes again and sank deeper into his thoughts with a big smile on his face.

Numbers Continually Going Upward
The world has very politely ended in the most webfiction way possible. Everyone is now leveling up in various things. Problems are arising. Some or all of those problems may be based around how to have a community barbeque when the nearest cow has been teleported to a few thousand miles away, along with the nearest supermarket. Join our protagoinst as he attempts to be a cool person, while everything falls apart. _____It turns out that any attempt to write a parody of the litrpg genre through overuse of the concept of leveling up inevitably fails when it turns out that *that is what the genre is based on*. Still, this was a fun little candy project of mine, and I might write more of it.

With a letter adressed to the brother of a man she killed, a lord chasing her and a desire to find a way home she begins her journey I created this story as a school project and it consumed all my writer's motivation for a year. I am now going back off hiatus and am allowed to post this here. Due to the constraints of the project I feel it is more condensed than I would have liked but I won't change that. lots of research went into this.
