《Smoking Bandits》SB4.2 - A Little Hunter

Orcs and Goblins have something in common when eating their prey. Both will try to keep the skeleton of their prey intact. This is similar to the habits of some primitive tribes on earth in the prehistoric era.
As soon as he entered the main hall, Lark rushed to the corner where dozens of skeletons were neatly arranged. Among the skeletons of deer, wildebeest, foxes, and other prey, lie two human skeletons.
The dog tag was still hanging from the neck of the two. So Lark could identify them. A female NCO and male soldier from Pine Co.
Orcs and Goblins also have a habit not to directly kill humans or the Humanoid Race they caught. For the male, they will cut open his stomach and enjoy his internal organs while he is still alive.
For the female, they will rape her. If she is still alive when the sex party is over, then she will be used as a means of reproduction. If not, then they will eat her.
Therefore, it was far better to commit suicide than to be caught alive by Orcs or Goblins. The problem is, the two Hostile Race are very adept at ambushing and capturing their victim alive.
After taking out two body bags from Wrist Pocket, Lark then turned towards Stanic. "Apart from their weapons, take what we can use. We will put the rest in the body bag along with the skeletons."
"Roger."
With alacrity, Stanic then took the magazines, ration pouch, potion pouch, and several other items.
Not long after that, Lark and Stanic cut off the Goblin's ears while a body bag hanging on their backs.

Before returning to Pinetown, Lark decided to have breakfast at the mouth of the cave. When he packed the campfire and other items, Vivian looked at him questioningly.
But now, Vivian didn't look surprised when she saw a bonfire that was still burning, steaming ginger water, or deer legs that were almost cooked, suddenly popping up out of nowhere.

"Be careful, it's a little hot." With a smile, Lark handed Vivian a cup of ginger water.
"Thank you."
Seeing Vivian carefully sipping on the ginger water, Lark smiled again.
When Lark activated Bloodslave on Terre and Vivian, he immediately learned of their relationship. Two years ago Terre adopted Vivian from an orphanage in Alba City.
However, the relationship between the two is not father and daughter. It's more like master and slave. Terre used Vivian's natural tracking skill to the fullest, whether for hunting animals, Hostile Race, or other hunters. He even forced Vivian to steal.
Every month Vivian can contribute up to 4-6 thousand Rell. A very good amount, although unfortunately she only received 200 Rells/month. Terre spent the rest of the money on women and alcohol.
Ironically, Vivian continues to work hard and hopes that someday Terre will treat her like his own child.
Actually, Terre was an adept shooter. It's just that, after not honing his skills for the past year, he still believes that his skills are still the same. He didn't even realize that when Vivian was tracking Lark, she'd purposely lost track of him.
To be honest, after he killed Terre, Lark still didn't know what to do with Vivian. One thing he did know was, he didn't have the heart to leave the child alone.
'Maybe I can teach her to be a hunter,' muttered Lark before starting to cut off the outermost parts of the roasted deer's leg.
After sowing it with a pinch of salt, Lark handed over a plate of grilled deer's leg to Vivian, "Do you want to become a hunter?"
"I do," Vivian replied before heartily eating a piece of grilled meat.
"I will teach you one or two things then."
A smile immediately bloomed on Lark's lips. Because now he can give Vivian a sense of purpose, while preparing a more feasible route for Wolf People's little girl.

During the day, the trip to Pinetown is not too dangerous. However, precaution for unforeseen circumstances must still be done.

As soon as breakfast was finished, Lark immediately prepared weapons and equipment for Vivian. With ease he prepared a potion pouch, personal hygiene kit, plastic water canteen, poncho, radio, and multipurpose pouch for empty magazines and trash.
However, for the ration pouch Lark took quite a while to prepare it. In the end, he made a combination of snacks for kids who were going to a picnic, consisting of:
4 biscuit tubes, each containing 10 Oreo-sized biscuits, 35 calories/biscuit, with the flavors of cheese, coffee milk, orange yogurt, and choco banana.
2 candy tubes, each containing 10 Mentos-sized chocolate candies, 10 calories/candy, caramel flavor, and grape yogurt.
4 packs of smoked jerky, each containing 3 pieces of bacon, 120 calories/piece.
1 tube of multivitamin and calcium, contains 10 fruit-flavored tablets.
While replacing Vivian's chest rig with a tactical belt and shoulder strep, Lark explained.
"We use a high mobility tactical belt and shoulder strap for 16-24 hours of hunter-killer missions. If we can build a campfire and hunt, the mission's duration can be extended to 36 hours."
"Mhm."
"The ammunition we carry is only used for silent ambushes or to cover a tactical retreat. For a raid mission, we will replace the shoulder strap with a chest rig so we can carry more ammunition."
"Mhm."
Vivian nodded slightly while Lark adjusted the skeleton suspension on her shoulder strap. Skeleton suspension serves to balance the distribution of the load between the waist and shoulders. So the user's neck and lower back do not get stiff and tired when he has to stay in one position for hours.
After that Lark began to attach various pouches to Vivian's waist. Vivian is not too interested in other pouches, except for the ration pouch. As soon as the ration pouch stuck to her waist, she immediately checked it.
Then, with a hopeful gaze Vivian looked at Lark. "Can I have more biscuits like the one Stanic gave me?"
"Sure."
Lark immediately handed over two beef curry biscuit tubes, and Vivian cheerfully put them in her left thigh pocket.
Finished with equipment, Lark then moved to weapons. Vivian already has a Compact Aitor combat knife and mini crossbow. So Lark only needs to give her firearms.
There is a quiver on Vivian's right waist, so Lark placed the handgun under her left armpit.
The handgun was a Sig P365 booty from Terre. It's packaged in a four-in-one pouch. The largest pouch contains the Sig P365, the two middle pouches contain two 10-round magazines each, and the last pouch contains a silencer.
After that Lark took out a mini backpack from Wrist Pocket. The mini backpack consists of two partitions. The first partition contains an MP9SD and a silencer. While the second partition contains eight magazine pouches.
The mini backpack can also be used to pack the mini crossbows and quivers. So Vivian can bring a mini crossbow and MP9SD together if needed. Regarding which one she will use as a primary or secondary weapon, Lark let Vivian decide for herself.
But unexpectedly, Vivian pointed to the AK-102 that Lark was using and said, "Can I use an AK?"
Lark smiled before answering, "I will teach you how to use AK. But right now your main mission is to master the 9 mm Para to the highest level."
While helping Vivian put on a green olive scarf, Lark added, "There are times when the 9 mm Para doesn't work as expected. But in general, it's a very effective caliber for CQB, especially if you're skilled at a headshot."
"Mhm."
Vivian nodded while Lark helped her put on Kassio G-Shock, green moss jungle hat, and black CQB glasses.
"Now, we spread traps in this nest, then go back to Pinetown."
"Okay."
Vivian nodded three times and Lark instantly smiled when he saw it.

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).

Magikind [Original]
The third millennia, a time of change and evolution. An era, where people, through countless generations, have evolved strange powers and abilities. Through several centuries of selective breeding, these beings, known as mages, have become part of the very foundations of society. However, some refused to change or adapt. They believed in purity and refused to interbreed with magikind. Known as the manush, they were a rarity among society. Now, in the fifth millennia, the manush are thought extinct. With magikind ruling the world, a three-way war grips society. In these uncertain times, a manush called Gin, will herald a new era for all Magikind. A story of how man could realistically evolve while still pushing boundaries. Disclaimer: Chapters will be edited once the first volume is done. Bear the beginning for the time being, and hopefully you can see my writing improving over time (I've learnt a lot on how to write because of this (though I'm still not perfect :P)) Proud Member of Writers to the End, WriTE The link to the pledged fictions PS. If you find the 'notes' too boring or too info-dumpy, feel free to skip them and just read the main chapters. They're there for the reader to understand Gin's world (written in the perspective of Gin). But later on, we can see some interactions between the main characters and the occasional references to his past in the notes, so it has its purpose.
