《The Rektoning: DeadHeads revolt》Prologue: Playing Games

Crystals of pure light and dark float around them as they sat waiting for the cards to be shuffled again.

He couldn't take it anymore! The large black crystal chair flew backward as he rose in anger slamming his fists into the table.

"Are you really planning on doing this?..." the angry tone reverberated and bounced off of the floating crystals causing them to shake and vibrate with the force projected out.

The woman sat opposing him, in her chair made of the same material but in pure glowing white just smirked in response to the question.

"Is this because they forgot your stupid ritual?" His temper was rising and the table was starting to groan and crack under the pressure he exuded onto it.

None of this mattered he knew, they were in the void now, nothing was real here, everything was just a manifestation of their power. Once they left it would all vanish into nothingness again.

Every month since long before history was even a concept, these two would meet here in this place and play games. The games weren't important, it just served as a way to catch up and pass the never-ending tedium that had become their forever.

There people had no name anymore, they were older than time itself and would live long after it ended. Given the grand task of overseeing the balance of light and dark within their domains, these were life and death in their physical manifestation. They controlled everything in existence making sure nothing broke too far away from the equilibrium that maintained reality's order.

His anger wasn't for these creatures called humans, they were a scourge on that planet he knew!

Out of every sentient species they governed, humans were the worst by far. They had spat in the face of the balance countless times over their short existence.

Humans denied their origins claiming it was due to evolution, even going so far as to deny the guidance given to them. They used science to explain everything they didn't understand.

They were a violent species in nature but ingenious in their creativity, these were people who thrived in unbalanced chaos.

Despite all this, the one thing humans had over countless other obedient planets ruled over was their imagination. Having been left so long without guidance they had created so many interesting and new things to keep his boredom away. These two beings hadn't played games from any planet other than earth in 1000's of years now. These creatures made cool games, movies, art, literature and the thought of going back to less entertaining stuff irked him to no end.

?????.... Look brother, she says gently, they have been allowed to run free for way too long now. No other species has ever had so many chances and been allowed to continue existing.

"Without them though, what will we play? Sticks and buggarts again?" The thought of one more game of that made him want to end his own exitance.

?????.... I know you have a soft spot for their creative nature but they have gone too far. They forget the old ways and ran amok of our rules.

The cards fly out in every direction as he swipes them away. "This isn't right, we aren't meant to just end a planet without the overseer's permission first".

Brother, she proclaims rising out of her own seat now. The crystals stopped vibrating with the calming serene aura she projects off.

?????.... Enough of these childish antics, you have no right to tell me about the rules! How would the overseer feel if we told him the humans somehow managed to reject your will completely? Besides with no influence there, you have no right to intervene. That planet needs wiping out before they do something irreversible and we both get in trouble.

"You may be right sister, I have no real power there anymore but be careful! Don't make the same mistakes I did by underestimating them, they can be both creative and destructive as a people born out of war and violence!" Before she could reply he vanished into darkness knowing the argument was pointless.

Left alone in the void the graceful woman sat there in silence for a long moment staring where her brother had been before.

The crystals suddenly start to make screeching sounds, pulsating rapidly as anger overtakes her usually composed elegance. With a now contorted and enraged face, shadows start to form around her glowing white eyes. Everything around her shatters with the power that gets blasted out and away from her.

On seeing the wreckage left from the uncontrolled outburst she shakes her head and sighs, vanishing into light leaving the place to disappear once more...
