《Incomplete》Chapter 1

They walked in the darkness, without any purpose, their light long gone, their shell cracked. Few who still had a semblance of light inside them screamed, they don’t want to go back. Some just sat there, watching a single place, as if waiting for something but not knowing what.

He was one of them, sitting here, waiting for nothing, forgotten who he was or what he was. Fearing nothing since he knew nothing.

Suddenly, from the point that he was looking at, a light shone, focusing on one person, one of the screamers as he thought of them.

The screamer did what they do, screamed “NO! I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK! NO!”. As if to answer them a hand came out of the light and seemingly in no time it swallowed the screamer. Silencing him and retreating back into the light.

And the darkness returned.

And he continued to sit there, unaffected by the occurrence, watching the spot.

Waiting for what was certain to come.

And came it did, and his time has come.

Inside certain city from single house placed close to a forest cries of a child could be heard.

As a nurse cleaned the child and doctor examined it, there was a concerned look on both of the parent's faces. The wife still tired from childbirth and the husband holding her hand to calm her and probably himself too.

“The childbirth was successful, and the boy looks healthy, now I will perform the examination” Doctor said as he pulled out small machine outside of his bag and attached it to the kid wrist.

The boy had blue eyes and looked terrifyingly cute after calming down but that was not surprising considering his parents.

As he pushed his mana inside it, the device sprung to life shining in few different colors. Looking at the screen of the device he said to the nurse “You can give back the child to the parents after leave us I will want to speak with them in private.”

“Yes, Doctor Mall.” said the nurse and did what she was told.

The half bald doctor with glasses came over to the parents after the nurse left. The couple was young in their early twenties at most. The wife had long black hair and blue eyes with thin but healthy looking build, now sitting on a bed seemingly relived after having her child returned to her.

The husband was Jack Redmond, was an ex-military, retired after taking a magic-bullet wound to a leg, strong and tall man with blond hair and blue eyes. A close friend of Paul Mall though no one would say that both of them are the same age with him being half bald.

“So, I have good and slightly bad news” started the doctor. Noticing that the had the couple full attention he continued. “First of all your son is safe from any demonic interference, for now…”

“What do you mean for now?” said the father.

“He is… incomplete reincarnated, so you can still choose to utili…” Paul couldn’t finish.

“Don’t joke!” Shouted Jack.

“Yes, right, sorry, forgive me.” said the doctor fastly “I only said it as a formality. As you know you will need to make sure he takes examination every week for the first year of his life and after that every month for the rest of his life to make sure he didn’t reawaken.”

“And what are the chances of that?” asked the mother.

“Very small Julie, only one in one hundred thousand reawaken. Still, the precautions need to be taken.” said the doctor. “Otherwise the child is strong and healthy. Congratulation on your first child.”

“Thank you, Paul, really.” said Jake.

“You should thank your wife, she was the one who did the most of the job” said half-baldy with a smile on his face. “I will leave now, remember to show up for re-examination next week, I will make a spot empty.”

Packing his things he started to prepare to leave.

“Yes, thank you very much, for everything” spoke Julie. “Honey, please accompany the Doctor to the door.”

“Of course honey. Let’s go, Paul.” said Jake as both of them were leaving the room.

Being left alone the new mother decided to enjoy her son. Looking at him with love and care. Playing with his hands stretched out to her. Suddenly as if remembering something her mind turned thoughtful.

“What are you thinking about my love?” said Jake surprising her a little.

“Oh, sorry, back so fast. I was thinking about something very important”

“And what would that be?” answered the father with a perplexed look on his face.

“Do you remember how much did we worry that our son could be taken by one of them?” said Julie looking her husband in the eye.

“Yes, you were worrying so much that, even doctors were worried about your health, well I guess I did too.” answered Jake still not sure what they were talking about.

“Yep and in the middle of all of that we forgot something equally important!” said the wife with a hint of a smile on her face. Seeing that the love of her life was even more lost now she continued. “A name!”

“Oh right! How could we have forgotten!?” shouted the father. The sudden voice surprising and scaring the young boy, making him cry.

“Oh, and what did you do now… good boy, yes who is mama boy.” spoke the mother while trying to calm down her child.

“Sorry… so do you have some idea?” asked Jake.

“Hmm… what about your friend, who saved your life Leo right?”

“OH! That’s a great idea! I’m sure he would be happy too.” Jake said excited but this time keeping his voice down to not scare the kid.

“I think so too. Welcome to the world Leo, Leo Redmond, our son.” Said the mother slowly caressing her new member of a family.
