As I march outside, Tango raises a rifle. "Don't worry, I've got an extra." She throws me it as Zero snarls at me. "What's with you two?" "He's mad at me for putting you in harm's way." Zero's jaw stiffens, "In a dangerous profession." She raises her chin, "That I applied into, knowing the risks."
His nose wrinkled up before he explodes, "You didn't know the risks until that ambush!" I gasp and slowly lower my head. Bolt backs up, "Aaand that's my cue." I clench my fists and raise my head up, "Now I know the risks. I'm gonna help tip the scales, Zero."
He stares back with his eye twitching as Bolt halts beside me. He tilts his head, "Are we done now, Zero?" He
grits his teeth, "Yeah! We're done." Bolt smiles wide, "Good. Now come on team." I turn around and jog to the group ahead.
"I don't want anything bad between us, Zero." He glares, "Give me some space." I smile and sprint up to the group and some wooden panel buildings. "Helmets on, people!" As Zero finally catches up, he hunches over and breathes heavily. "Shit, I'm gettin old." Tango hunches over too, "How old are you?"
He stands up, quick. "Forty six." "THETA! You're up!" Gladius walks up and points, "Tango! Take point!"
"Me?!" Bolt smiles at me, "This is how I learned, don't tank it." I raise my fist to my heart, "I'm gonna ace it." I raise
my gun and accidentally fire it up in the air. Zero and Bolt nod to each other as we enter. "Trust your senses in here."
I go in and aim at a target as the others fan out behind me. I quickly pull the trigger, quickly putting holes into the metal. Bolt yells, "Clear!" Gladius comes from behind me, "Step to the left or right so we can get in faster to back you up."

I nod and open the next door, I peek in, then march in and to the left, firing. Bolt and Zero quickly rush in as backup. "Some rooms could have hostages, civilians-" "Help!" I quickly run to the next door and slap it open. I peek in and shoot at a target.
"Shit!" Gladius pushes me back and closes the door, "Wait here." We hear him put up new targets. After about a minute, he comes back the way we came in. "Ok, go on in." "Help!" I slap it open and shoot the first target. One of those fire cultists has his hands up, so I lean up against it quick. Zero comes in and shoots one.
Then Bolt goes, marching in and quickly turning before pelting a target. He points at me and then lowers it.
I get off of the target and Bolt goes limp before giving me a thumbs up. We all turn towards Gladius, "Good jo-" *Hacker's location found.* Bolt's eyes widen.

From beyond The Veil
Witnesses say that the angels blaze appeared back in the eighties. A dazzling light ripped through the sky all across the world. People say they saw a rainbow of colors bathing the sky. It was gone in a instant. Some legends say that it was an angel falling from the sky. But most scholars agree that it was a rare comet. They all were wrong. The light was a breaking of the veil, the veil to my world. Now creatures from my side of the veil are breaking through and it's my job to keep them back and protect all the humans. But I tend to like to watch the chaos.

Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
