《Area 51》1.6 Containment Breach
Advertisement
It’s clear that there must have been some sort of cyber attack.
That’s the only possibility of why all these separate systems have failed.
I can only hope that they will be able to reboot the system soon and send in the elites to fix everything.
Until then I need to survive, and in order to survive I am going to need better weapons than a pair of scissors.
Getting a gun wouldn’t be a problem, there are tons on them all around. The problem is that they are all biometrically locked. If I want a weapon that I can use I am either going to need to be transferred to security or find a weapon that has the biometrics disabled.
The first is very unlikely, the second… Well that is also unlikely but at least I have an idea of where to look.
Five floors below here is where the prison ends and the storage facility begins, at the very least they will have antique guns, or failed prototypes. There should also be food, and water down there. There should be very few hostiles on that floor as well since they are all kept on the prison floors.
Unfortunately I will need to get through five floors filled with hostiles.
‘What’s the plan?’
I think for a moment on the best route to get to the storage floors.
…
‘The elevator shaft!’
If I can get the elevator doors open I should be able to get down the elevator shaft, I won’t even need to step foot on another prison floor.
But there is another knot in my plan, the elevator doors would undoubtedly be locked, clearance or no clearance, and there is no way in hell that I will be able to pry them open, at least not without power tools.

Then that leads right back to my original problem, all the power tools on base are similarly biometrically locked maintenance technicians.
I need to look at this from another angle.
…
…
‘If there are…’
‘No…’
‘What about…’
Finally I come to the conclusion that I am going to need help on my endeavour no matter what.
If I can find a maintenance technician who is alive, they should be able to to use power tools to open the elevator door, or override the mechanism.
Similarly if I can find a guard then they might be able to blow up the door with a grenade or something.
I also toy with the slim possibility that I might be able to get a non-hostile alien to help…
‘Who am I kidding? I’ll eat my shoes if I ever meet an alien that doesn’t want to kill, maim or enslave me.’
Well no matter what, the first step of reaching salvation is leaving this room.
Here goes nothing.
I unlock the door and swing it open, I peer down the hall in both direction, ready to slam the door at a moments notice if I spot something amis.
The lighting is poor and dim, but my eyes have adjusted to the red light by now and I can make out my surroundings clearly. There is no sign of anyone or anything, at least nothing alive, the corpses are still there.
I begin to walk towards the armory and bunk rooms, that’s where my best chance at finding survivors will be.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

Over twenty-one years later, the so-called “Magical Guardians” are still hard at work keeping the peace. But none of that really matters to Mai, whose biggest problems are dealing with her family, classmates, and the ever growing dread of her imminent future. As far as Mai is concerned, mundane problems are more than enough to worry about, and the idea of magic and monsters might as well be nothing more than daydreams. At least, they were until she finds herself in the middle of an Anathema invasion… A Dark Magical Girl LitRPG with sci-fi elements. Note: Slow burn and gradual introduction of LitRPG mechanics that become a focal point once introduced. Please be aware this story contains intense violence, gore, traumatic situations, and other potentially unsettling content. Chapter One and Two are considered the first “episode” and introduction into the book. As such, they are mega length to allow for uninterrupted reading. Enjoy!
