《Promise》Chapter 27: Hidden secret ?

“What was that about ?” Luna spoke to Liam.
“Sound like an assasination plan. I hope it is not what I think it is.” Allan said.
“What ?” Luna asked. “Red wedding, I heard about that before. In a novel called Games of Thrones, that event was a massacre” Allan replied.
“Holy shit !” Luan said. “Hey, don’t lose focus now will ya, it does not concern us, right now we got a mission to finish”. Allan spoke.
“Wow since when do you sound just like Kyle ?” Luna replied.
“In this very particular circumstance, I will take that as a compliment” Allan answered.
The two focused back on their current mission, leaving what they had just heard behind, but unfortunately for them, fate did not allow them to do so.
They reached their destination, Alena’s room, with the key that they ‘borrowed’, they made quick work of the locked door and got inside the room. It was not that hard to find what they were looking for, surprisingly to them, there was only one jewel box that Alena kept in her table. Allan already caught on about that unusual aspect.
“She doesn’t keep her jewels in this box but rather just places them on the table and wardrobe. That means whatever she keeps in her is even more valuable than gold or jewel.” Allan told Luna. “Should we find out what's inside first?”
“Hey come on, that is not necessary, that woman already told us that we would open it together and she would pay us more than what we would find in this box anyway,” Luna said “And hurry, time is running out, I don’t know how long Kyle could keep her busy for”.
In the beautiful garden of the Turner family, two people were walking next to each other under the shining moonlight.
“So who are you Mr Kyle, you clearly are not from around here, I would have noticed you before otherwise ” Kyle said.
“Please Miss Alena just call me Kyle, putting a Mr in front of my name makes me feel so old” Kyle replied with a smile.
“Well then Kyle, you can call me Alena, so who are you and what makes you come to my family party ?” Alena said.
“I am just a humble merchant and traveller, I travel the land, stop when I am tired, eat when I am hungry, make a fortune one my way and slay some monsters, you know the usual” Kyle said.
“Oh wow, such humble gentlemen you are.” Alena answered with a small laugh “Could you tell me some story, about the life and wonder that is outside of this wall”.

“You have never set a foot outside of this city.” Kyle asked
“No, unfortunately I can’t, my father is really strict and since birth my health has been weak so I can’t travel for long distances.” Alena replied, a glimmer of sadness could be seen in her beautiful purple eyes.
“Oh right, let me be your eyes then.” Kyle said. They kept walking through the garden as Kyle told her his story full of wonder and beauty. But because he had only been in this world for a short period of time, he mostly just told her story and wondered from his own world, mixed with some truth and lied here and there. They stopped and sat down at the wooden bench in front of the fountain in the garden. They were alone in this magical night, only the two of them and the moonlight as their witness.
“The word seems so big and wonderful through your stories Kyle” Alena smiled. “I wish someday I would get the chance to see it by myself.”
“But I also know that you haven’t told me the whole truth, have you?” Alena continued “you talked about wonder but in your eyes I could still see some darkness.”
“Could it just be that I got really dark eyes?” Kyle replied with a smile.
“No silly” Alena answered with a playful tone. “Really I wouldn’t mind if you tell me any of those kinds of stories as well, I want to know everything about the world outside, not just the beauty and glamour.”
“I just thought that it would not be appropriate to tell those stories on a night like this,” Kyle replied.
“Please, I want to know, my father and brother never told me any, they want to keep me inside this bubble.” Alena said.
“They are not wrong Alena, I envy you for that.” Kyle said.
“You envy me?” Alena said.
“Yes, I wish I could turn back time, to a time that I could still see the world as you do, so pure and full of happiness” Kyle replied.
“You sound like you’re very lonely” Alena said “Is there no one you travel with”.
“Well recently I picked up a few companions for my latest adventure. So I am not alone anymore” Kyle replied.
“But you are still lonely, aren’t you? There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. I know this feeling more than you think.” Alena said.
“You feel lonely as well ?” Kyle asked.
“Don’t get me wrong, my family loves me. But they always go out on adventures and missions, doing trade and business on far away land that I could never follow, all I can do is to hear the story they told me when they get back. But I could never tell them any story like that of my own. I feel like I am always out of the conversation with my own loved one, I feel like somehow I don’t belong.” Alena replied.

“Well, now you could tell them the story of a mysterious handsome young man, who took you out into the most beautiful night anyone has ever seen and showed you the world. I bet none of them have ever heard that story before” Kyle replied.
“Ha ha true, but my parents would freak out,” Alena said.
“Well then, it would just be a secret between us then. And you know what, the best stories are always those that are kept secret.” Kyle said.
“Thank you, Kyle for this.” Alena said “A lovely secret between me and a handsome interesting young man is also something that I never thought I would have either.”
“So you admit it, I am a very interesting man,” Kyle replied. “Well, maybe just more than those that are inside right now” Alena spoke. They both smile and laugh out loud.
“Hey Alena, have I ever told you that you look breathtaking before?” Kyle said.
“No, you haven’t. And you are the first who did not tell me so in the first minute they see me.” Alena replied. “Oh and Kyle, I must confess something”.
“What is this Alena?” Kyle replied.
“I lied earlier, the moon tonight was just as beautiful as it was all the night before. But somehow, right now, I don't know, I feel as though it was the most beautiful night sky that I have ever seen.” Alena's hand reached toward Kyle and those the two touched.
“Like I told you from the start, tonight I'm gonna be your eyes, and I have helped you see the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.”
“What is this?” Alena asked. Kyle then held her hand and led her to the water fountain that had then stopped working. He pointed at the reflection in the water, it was clear and still that water was like a mirror. There under the moonlight, there was the perfect reflection of the Moon, Kyle and “You, Alena” Kyle told Alena.
Alena looked at the reflection of herself in the water but only a second before shifting her eyes to Kyle’s reflection in the water.
“You are wrong Kyle, I indeed saw something very beautiful tonight but it was not just my reflection ” She smiled and looked into Kyle's eyes.
The two sat back down again and continued their talk, joy and laughter from them breaking the silence of the garden and it was like time had stopped itself for them. But everything must have its end, and it was time for them too.
“I think we should come back now, it would be weird if I am gone for too long,” Alena said.
“Thank you, I had a great night, it is not often that I get to accompany such a smart and beautiful young woman such as yourself.” Kyle said “May walk you back to the party”. Alena took his hand and they walked side by side back to the entrance.
They two walked back to the entrance and passed the table which Kyle told the other to leave the key there. And this time they did not disappoint him. The key was there, he quickly took it and made his move. He took her right hand with both hands, looked into her eyes and said
“This is where we say goodbye, I'm afraid”.
“Why? can't you stay longer?” Alena said. “No, I am sorry, I am afraid I will have to leave very soon.” Kyle replied, at the moment, when Alena was not focusing he reattached the key back to her bracelet.
“Is there any chance that I could see you again Kyle?” Alena asked, sadness sparked her eyes.
“I am a traveller, Alena, I can’t stay in one place for a long time, my companions and I will have to leave this city soon.” Kyle said.
“Why so soon, I have only just met you, I don’t want to say goodbye” Alena said.
“Then don’t say goodbye, get stronger and better Alena so one day you can step out of these walls and see the world, that day we will meet each other again.” Kyle said.
“And what about now ?” Alena asked.
“Now, we say: See you soon.” Kyle answered and landed a kiss on the back of her hand.
“See you later Kyle, remember, you will always have someone to talk to in Casablanca so you will never have to be lonely.” Alena said with a mixture of sadness and happiness in her voice and eyes.
“Thank you Alena, you don't know how much that means to me” Kyle spoke to Alena before finally letting go of each other's hand, rejoining the party and going their separate ways.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’

Saint's Supporter
Dumped into a world by myself, set up with a class that requires others to excel with just over a week to prepare for a fight with a literal god. This is just another betrayal to add to the list. I won't stop until I find the person who put me in this situation, along with my friend who I dragged into this mess. Transferring to another world and gaining special powers is a dream for some, but if they were dropped into my shoes... they'd probably give up. But I won't. This story has the following elements: Male MC Light RPG mechanics (no in-story stat tables) Non-standard class for the MC Moderate violence A mix of solo fights and group battles with a balance of tactics, skill and ability usage If you're looking for the below, you may be disappointed: Instantly overpowered MC (no prior skills in combat, every bit of growth is earned) Female MC (duh) Explicit sex (may be referenced, but no NSFW chapters) Health bars (damage taken and given reflects reality) Harem Gore and ultra-violence **This story is a First Draft, changes may take place during the process. Three chapters per week at minimum.** **So, this is set up as a GameLit transported to a new world story initially, but it focuses on how such a system would work in real life. There are levels, abilities and mana pools, but damage and health are realistic and combat is fast and frantic. I think that is an interesting mix. If you have any questions, just ask in the comments. I'm always happy to discuss anything in relation to the story.**

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Dwarf While Trapped in a Dungeon Full of Spiders
Thousands of years ago, mankind would honor their dead and their journey to the afterlife through the process of mummification. The elaborate tombs and burial rituals marked our transition from hunter-gatherers to civilizations and empires. However, it's been over 500 years since we've sent tributes to the underworld, and now the underworld, or whatever lies beyond, has decided to send something back. Authors Note- This story is inspired by DnD, Dark Souls, Guild Wars 1, and my love of eldritch horror and dark creepy dungeons. Also completed doesn't mean end of the line. There is more Mike Sammons in the future, promise.
