《Promise》Chapter 24: the unexpected mission

The woman led the party to a secret place, outside of the city wall. After making sure no one was following them, the woman told them what she wanted them to do.
“Do you know who the Turner family is ?” the woman asked. Kyle and the others shaked their heads.
“Hm…” the woman smiled slightly. “It ok let me tell you then, they are one of the richest families in this city and they work closely with the Lion guide. William Turner, the head of the Turner family, has a daughter, Alena, he loves her very much and spoiled her very much. From what I heard, she always keeps something precious to her in a jewel box in her bedroom, steals it for me and I will reward you handsomely.”
“If we already have the jewel box why should we give it back to you, why shouldn’t we just take what is inside and leave” Kyle asked.
“What is inside that box might not be valuable to you my dear, don’t worry, when you give it to me we will open it together and I will pay you more than what is worth inside the box”. the woman replied. “So do we have a deal?”.
“How long do we have to finish this mission?” Kyle asked.
“The Turner family is holding their annual Ball in three days time. That would be the best time to strike as the whole family would be there, even Alena, all you have to do is to get yourself in the Ball then sneak your way in her bedroom. Her room is at the top of the mansion and she always carries the key with her.” The Woman answered.
“You seem to have much knowledge of the Turner family, why do you target them in particular?” Kyle asked.
“Does it really matter to you?” The woman answered “Normally thieves like you don’t ask their employer questions such as those, they do what they are paid for. But if you really want to know, let's just say that family has something that is very important to me”.

Kyle looked back at the others before nodding his head agreeing with her offer.
They all went their separate way after she gave them the address and the time and place of the second and last meeting between them.
“What do you mean by ‘I've never failed ’ ?” Luna asked Kyle.
“Well mathematically it's true, how could I have failed at something I have never done before” Kyle answered with a cheeky smile on his face.
“Now is not a time to joke like that Kyle, this was a hidden mission, that was activated by my AWA stat, who knows what would come out of this” Luna follows up.
“Don’t worry Luna, it's just stealing a jewel box, how hard could it be?” Liam said, well that is what he thought before they followed the address the woman gave them. Turns out, the Turner’s residence was a big mansion located in the upper class area of the city, it was heavily guarded from the outside and there was only one way in and out.
“Oh shit !” they spoke out loud.
Luna and Kyle did some recon of the area while Allan, Liam and Maria gathered some information from the surrounding residences about the Turner family and the upcoming annual Ball. As it turnt out, the Turner was quite generous in their invitations, most of the family in the high class living area had already received their invitation. Luna and Kyle concluded that there was no way they would be able to sneak inside through the heavy guard without being caught.
“So the only way to get in is to get an invitation huh, that is not gonna be easy” Liam said.
“Well, we do know where one invitation letter is lying.” Kyle said.
“The Blackburn’s residence ? How do you suggest we get it from them ?” Maria asked.
“I don’t know yet, but that might be our best shot in this case”. Kyle responded.
“Allan, could you still get into contact with Miss Rose?” Luna asked.
“I doubt that,” Allan answered.
“There are two ways to ask for it, we could ask them nicely or we could do it not so nicely” Kyle said.

“What do you mean by that?” Liam asked. “Blackmail” a quick answer from Kyle.
“We need to get this fast so we should go straight to plan B” Kyle said.
“What do we have on them?” Luna asked.
“Nothing,... actually” Kyle replied.
“So how are we gonna blackmail them then?” Luna continued.
“Well they don’t know that we knew nothing, all we have to do is act the part” Kyle said.
After the team return to the place they had rented, Liam and Kyle had a private conversation
“You lied to them again, we obviously had something on them” Liam said.
“They don’t have to know that getting the invitation letter is my problem, you guys focus on how we're gonna get that key from Alena.” Kyle said.
“You want to steal the key too, wouldn’t that be too dangerous?” Liam said.
“Well better than them finding out someone broke inside Alena's bedroom forcefully, if they found out that it was just gone missing with her room intact, chances are they might think someone else in the house with access to the key might have stolen it, a maid perhap.”
“So we are gonna steal the key and return it to her at the same night, yep easy mission” Liam said with a sarcastic voice.
Kyle walked to the Blackburn residence once again, when he was stopped by the guards, Kyle just told them “Tell Richard that his old friend Kyle is here to talk, and tell him that he does not want to keep me waiting, my time is money”. And just a few moments after the guard went inside, he came back, taking Kyle to Richard's office. Richard was sitting down on his work table. When he saw Kyle, tension filled the room, he asked the guard to go back and close the door.
“So what do you want from me now?” Richard said.
“My friend Allan had a crush on the Turner family daughter. He asked me to help him get a chance to get close to her, you know just to chat, and I thought maybe you could know how.” Kyle replied with a smile on his face.
“Why do you want to get close to the Turner family ?” Richard asked.
“Like I just said, helping a friend of mine” Kyle answered “Don’t worry, we aren’t selling your secret to the Turner family if that's what you are thinking, only I know about it and I even found out why you're in such a position as well”, he laughed.
“How did you find it out?” Richard asked. “Does it matter now, I just wonder if Rose and your son had already known, oh a better idea, how would the public think when they found out. Do you really want to risk it ?” Kyle replied without hesitation.
“And there you were saying how you were not the monsters” Richard said.
“No I didn’t. I just said that you are not the hero” Kyle said.
“Enough ! You don't know who you're dealing with. Just tell me what you are really after and begone with you” Richard raised his voice.
“Like I said Allan wants to get close to Miss Alena Turner, how convenient that they are holding a Ball soon, don’t you happen to receive any invitation ?” Kyle said.
“Ok, I will give you the invitation letter. We don’t want to go there anyway.” He took a letter out from the work table. And as Kyle tried to grab the letter, Richard grabbed hold of Kyle's wrist with his other hand. “This is the last time you hear me ! After this I don’t want you to set foot near my family again. I want you to get out of this city.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t plan to stay in this crazy city for long anyway” Kyle said. Richard handed over the letter. Kyle then leaves Blackburn’s residence without a trace.
