《Systematic Supremacy》5. Out of the pan and into the fire

While the supreme being faced a dilemma about one of the most important decisions of his life, Theo on the other hand had a great time. In fact, he never felt better.
Ever since everything went black and he heard the conversation of the two unknown individuals, the pain started to slowly subside and the world gradually turned brighter, until all he could see was white, and the pain completely disappeared. While he was interested in the conversation between the two individuals at first, his new condition completely stole his attention.
Forget the feeling of freedom, now he felt as though the whole world was at the tips of his fingers like his whole being became something greater. The thoughts of death completely disappeared, the energy all around him felt like a part of his body and a wonderful drug at the same time. Just the reminiscence of his suicidal thought made him want to bash his metaphorical head against a metaphorical wall.
The only thing that bothered him now was the anomaly he sensed not too far away. Or was it far? He wasn’t sure, it was akin to his whole world gaining new standards of logic that he himself didn’t even understand yet.
The anomaly felt strangely similar to when something gets stuck between your teeth and you just can’t seem to get it out, no matter what you do.
The anomaly stopped approaching after it got uncomfortably close and then stood or rather floated at that spot for a little while until it started doing something strange.
It was as though the flow around the anomaly changed, akin to producing some sort of suction.
Theo’s body, if you could even call it that, was located quite close to the phenomenon, so the current sucked him in and dragged him to the location of the anomaly. He didn’t know if he should resist, in fact, he didn’t even know if he could resist, so he just went with the flow.

The current gradually picked up speed and brought Theo to the source of the sucking power in what felt like half a minute, but that was a mistake on his part, as his senses functioned on a different plane now, for what felt like half a minute to him, was a time so short that no timing device on the now obliterated earth could even record.
Just as he thought he would collide with the anomaly, he hit something that felt like a very thick and viscous liquid.
“Hmm?” The same voice that he heard laughing hysterically not too long ago returned, but was now a lot clearer. At first, logic would dictate that it was because of the distance, but Theo had an inkling that as long as the owner of this voice never left his sphere of influence, he could perceive every word as though it was spoken directly to his soul.
The voice was also quite soothing to the ears, Theo could confidently state that this man’s future as a narrator would have been secure no matter what he did, even if Twitter tried to cancel him. Well, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, let’s just say that his future would definitely be secure as long as Twitter didn’t try to cancel him. Also, I just assumed his gender, didn’t I? Well, lucky Twitter doesn’t exist anymore.
“This is interesting” The man continued, finally breaking Theo out of his thoughts. He didn’t know what he should do now, should he try to talk? Could he even talk?
Since he could listen, he decided it was worth giving talking a shot as well.
“Hello” This greeting was just as surprising to Kundrarra as it was to Theo. The former obviously being surprised at a cluster of thick energy conversing with him and the latter at how effortless talking seemed to be. Effortless in the sense that it seemed even easier than it was while he was human.

“Oh? What is this? So, you are the sentience born from this strange energy? Perhaps a spirit?” Although a lot of questions came out of the man’s mouth, none seemed to be targeted at Theo, like he was just talking to himself.
Not even bothering to wait for a response Kundrarra continued.
“It doesn’t matter, in any case, you just made this whole thing a lot simpler.” Kundrarra’s pleasant surprise was to be expected. Although he couldn’t pinpoint the correct form of being the creature was, since the fact that it was literally made out of a condensed version of the white energy made it impossible to scan, he could make assumptions just from his vast experience.
If he took control of this creature, not only would gaining an understanding of this energy become a lot easier, he might even be able to control it at will.
The next step was a little more complicated than it should have otherwise been. Taking control of such a weak existence would normally not even be a challenge, but the white energy made things a little more complex. Since he couldn’t send his senses into the creature’s body, that also eliminated any means to implement control over the body itself. The best option would then be to control it through its soul.
Deciding on the path ahead, Kundrarra immediately implemented it, using countless tiny strands of solidified energy to search for the location of the soul.
“Aghhhhhh!” Theo immediately yelled in pain, subconsciously projecting his voice with the help of the surrounding energy.
The sudden feeling of countless number of needles stabbing into him and then wiggling through his energy-based body immediately send jolts of pain through him. He wasn’t entirely sure what was happening, but he understood that foreign objects that bore through his body originated from the anomaly that brought him to it.
Now he was pissed. Finally being able to escape his meaningless life and attain freedom, just for some other bastard to start toying with him right after. He even tried to converse with him, is it so hard to ask for a moment of peace?
Theo couldn’t do anything; he was just as powerless to this individual as he was to the curse. As the stabbing of the threads continued, Theo managed to calm himself somewhat. It still hurt like hell, but it wasn’t really on the level of the curse. The initial pain was a surprise since he was more used to slow increases of pain typical to the curse.
The exploration continued until the threads seemed to locate their target. All the wondering threads stopped and converged on the newly found location, prodding it and feeling around it.
To Theo it felt like his very being was violated, every time a thread grazed at what appeared to be his core of existence, a jolt of pain significantly stronger than the ones sent from his energy-based body was felt. At some point, Theo just started inwardly creaming in his mind and the energy around him madly vibrating as a response. His pain threshold was slowly being challenged, as the amount of pain encroached to a level he never experienced before, and then…
“AAAAAAAAGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” seemingly as though all the threads located their target, they all pierced themselves at the soul whose exterior they were exploring till now. Theo’s mind appeared to break at that moment, sending all the surrounding energy into chaos with a single yell.

The Granddaughter of Time
Teresa Hargrove was okay with giving up. She knew the Earth was doomed and there was nothing to be done about it. What she was not okay with was the Future, an enigmatic woman nearly fanatical in her devotion to making a difference, dragging her along — seemingly, to prove her wrong. It turns out though that the Future is very hard to understand. This story contains heavy themes, including mental illness, existential crisis and death. However, I still tried to eventually convey a message of hope. Several mythical and metaphorical beings in the shape of humans will appear in most chapters. However, they are not meant to be of a specific ethnicity or social background and are instead perceived differently by people around them. For your reading pleasure, feel free to imagine them any way you’d like, even if your imagination contradicts descriptions from the story. Enjoy!~
