《No Matter What, I Will Get Back Home!》(3) The Contract

"Oho, you seem quite confident in your abilities. A stark contrast to you a little while ago." I took a moment to stare back at the so-called God and struggled to get my arms free. I wanted to be able to talk to him on level ground, being on the floor like this wasn't really helping my position.

"Nevertheless, I do recall all those trashy books you read, and those video games you play. After taking a short while to look through your memories, which was hard to do thanks to your feeble mind, I've decided on a game that you would enjoy!" I grit my teeth as I listened to this prick belittle me more and more. Just have to wait a bit for the point to be made, then I could make my counterattack.

"Tell me, you know about the game called Chronologia: Alter Salvation? I recall you never even got past the second boss in that RPG at all." I froze and started to rack through my memory as I recalled instantly what he was talking about.

Chronologia: Alter Salvation. Set in the world of Atlasia, the entire setting revolved around saving humanity from the massive horde of monsters and eldritch monsters that sought to use the land as a feeding ground. One of the games that I kept playing but never finished because I wanted to clear everything in terms of side missions and stuff before I went on.

The lore was great and was basically meant to be uplifting to anyone that had to play the game. Despite the fact that the controls were somewhat questionable and the difficulty was harder than most games recently, I still enjoyed it a lot because the challenge and the reward made my efforts feel that much better.

Even though I promised that I would always finish any games I play to the end, I never kept that promise. However, that game made me honestly wish that I had beaten it fully with a 100% marker. Though, the fact that the charm made me stick by it so often made even me forget the fact that the world of Atlasia was...

Oh no. Realization dawned on me as I remembered what the world was like. That place was a cruel, harsh place in disguise of a beautiful, cheerful landscape. The hero of the story, Magnus Alzheim, was able to be born in a horrible bandit invasion that he had been able to fight back, and with the power of the Sun Goddess, he would then go forth and defeat the evils of the World.

"Yes, that place! The world of Atlasia." God said as he kneeled down and put my head up so that I was looking directly at his face. "Honestly, you humans make my job so much easier. You made so many deadly places that even I'm impressed by your work. Truly, something to be joyful about."

Fucking shit! That bastard! I couldn't argue that fact, either! Despite the cutesy art style and the lovely writing that they had to cover up the horrible, deep cruel nature of the world, just a small browse through the forums showed me the very tip of the iceberg. That game held a horror fest, and I was about to be forced to stay there to survive.

"Wait, wait, time out! Isn't there a better place!" I shouted before he put his hand over my mouth, stopping me from saying anything more. He tsked as he waved his finger in front of my face, almost as if he was trying to teach a child some manners.

"Please! You chose that as your favorite place, why would I do anything else?" He asked as he simply patted me on the head. "Really, you're quite cute when you attempt to put up a brave front. Just relax, and let me continue."

Against my own will, my body slowly slumped down, shutting down and making me feel tired all over again. No, no, please listen to me. Don't fall asleep, I need to argue back!

Almost immediately, my body snapped awake, but the fatigue remained. I could hardly move at all. I felt like a puppet whose strings were just slashed, unable to move or take any kind of action without the help of someone else.

I felt so humiliated, like some kind of random doll that's being thrown away and abused by some spoiled brat.

"Oh, quit worrying your little cute head off, relax! Just let it happen like all the other people do!" The scoundrel said as he patted my head as if he was trying to make me feel better.

I felt more and more disgusting with each touch.

"Really, wasn't one of the greatest things about that RPG was the fact that you had the ability to customize skills and make your own with certain exp points?" That was true, and in fact, I can remember having a lot of fun with that mechanic. One of the biggest things that Chronologia: Alter Salvation had as a major selling point was the fact that you could make your own skills and customize them.

The process was long and hard, so not a lot of people actually did that. They just made up new skills using preset models or just used the pre-existing ones. A lot of people did exactly just that: they just used the already created skills and play the game that way.

I didn't, I chose to make my own. That was the best fun I've ever had before, being able to manipulate what I managed to get a skill, even if that process took almost a few hours.

"So, you see? You really don't need to actually have that much cheating involved! But, to just throw you in there without a problem... Hmm, I can tweak a few things to make things more 'fair' and 'easier' for you." He said as he rubbed his chin. "Tell you what. I'll give you three chances to guess what I want you to do, and if you manage to get it right, I'll grant you a tiny boon. What do you think? You'll appreciate that little reward a lot."

I looked up and nodded. He merely grinned as he sat down on thin air, before gesturing towards me to begin my guessing.

"You want me... to spread the true religion, right? You want your word out there in this 'heretical' land if I'm correct?" I blinked as I watched him double over with laughter, slamming the ground with his left hand, before looking back at me and wiping a tear off of his eye.

"No, no, I could care less about that." He replied as he got back up elegantly. I spotted that his face had changed into a plain white mask with a question mark on it. "I'm quite fine with being unknown to many, the game becomes more fun when they question what kind of person I am. T'is better that way. Now, your second guess?"

I was at a loss now. I was sure that would be one of his desires, considering a light novel that I had read previously. No, I should have figured that this man didn't want to have his religion spread: he was pleased with his current situation, after all. He was probably the type of guy to break a controller if he lost a game badly.

I started to think long and hard. I only had two chances left, I needed to figure out why... ah, so that's it, isn't it? This fucking bastard would assume I would never figure this answer out, considering who I am.

It's the perfect end goal for someone like me. Something impossible to do by a large margin.

"Well come on, what do you think I want you to do? You must've figured it out, no?" I looked at him directly, right where the eye-holes of the mask should be. I gave him a grin, and I hoped that I would've just thrown him off a little.

"You want me to 'beat' the game." Silence reigned for a little while, as he stared at me, the question mark on his mask turning into the picture of a sad wolf. "You figure that I couldn't ever finish anything I promise to do, so you made that the option."

He looked at me before his mask turned into a laughing wolf. "Congratulations, you figured it out. Well, guess that means you get your boon after all. I'm proud of you."

Heh. I could tell from the tone of his voice that he was soured from his loss. He didn't expect me to get the answer right at all, huh? I got one over God, that's something I can brag about.

"Do you really, honestly believe that?" I blinked in response and then stared at the mask. The wolf was laughing wildly as if it was... amused. "Did you forget about the fact that I am God? I knew from the moment you had that tiny little spark of inspiration within your mind from the beginning."

Wait. If he expected me to get that question right, then-

"Oh yes, you fell into my trap, my little duckling. Well, doesn't matter. T'is nothing more than a sad little girl who took a path and is now about to enter the world below!" He said as he raised his hands up in the air, giving me a smile with the mask that appeared to be equivalent to a smiling wolf that had found a bound and weakened prey.

"Rejoice, my little lamb! You are being given the opportunity that so many other insects desire, a chance to get back to Earth with this little task of mine. With the generous addition of a few boons to your name, I hereby declare you ready to head into the world of Atlasia, and win the game!"

"Wait, wait! I don't even know what the final boss for the game was! I don't even know how to get to the ending! There's no linear path like the game, how can you expect me to win if I don't even know the victory condition!" I screamed. There's no way I can win if I don't even know what the final boss is!

"Oh, but you did do a little research, right? Nevertheless, if you're so lost, I shall give you a hint." His mask morphed into a smug, grinning face that unnerved me to no end. He casually gave me a thumbs down, and the next thing I knew, I fell.

I was falling endlessly, screaming as I felt myself go faster and faster, too fast that my vision began to blur. My body began to burn as I fell, turning into tiny sparks of flames that began to consume me and make my body dissipate into nothing. All the while, I could only see an endless crowd of laughing masks that seemed to say only one thing. Before my vision faded completely, a single phrase was spoken to me as clear as a night's sky. Those words that I heard were forever branded into my memory, for they were the only thing I had to reach the end.

"Remember this. The demon's eclipse is the key."

-----------------

I was awoken by a harsh light that seemed to make my eyes hurt a lot. I was wet, uncomfortable, and cold. I wanted to go back to my little hiding spot, where it was nice and warm.

"My wife! What about my wife, is she alright?" The man talking was too loud. I started to cry due to my ears hurting from the volume itself.

"Calm down, you are scaring the baby." A woman said, chastising the man who just spoke out. "Relax, she's alright, and so is your new daughter. Considering the fact that her cries are quite loud, I can determine that she's quite a healthy baby. Congratulations." I struggled to get to a comfortable position before I was handed to someone else.

They were warm and nice. I felt peaceful as I was slowly rocked back and forth, feeling like I was being carried by a swarm of fluffy clouds.

"Oh wow, we got a new baby sister! You hear that, Alise? You're not the youngest daughter anymore!" Someone else butted into the situation, and they were loud too. Couldn't a person like me have some relaxation?

"Shut up Nellie. Mom's still weak, you're probably getting her nervous." With that new voice came a hard thwack, and the person I would assume to be Nellie crying out in pain.

"Calm down Terry, it's alright. The worst is over." Another random person spoke up, but they seemed to have a more calming effect. I liked the sound of their voice.

"Kids, enough. I'm alright." Someone with a soft but kind voice spoke up, and I could tell that she was the person that gave birth to me. She seemed nice, but I couldn't tell from just voices themselves.

"Terry, Nellie, Alise, Marcus, I'd like you all to meet your new baby sister, Feliza." All the kids looked over at me, and I felt like I was being stood up in an auditorium with a million people waiting for a performance. I couldn't help but laugh in worry and fright.

"Look, she laughed! She likes us!" No, you're wrong. You're definitely off the marker there.

But, for now, it wouldn't be too bad to designate my family. Terry, Nellie, Alise, and Marcus are my new siblings in blood. The man that was wiping his brow and looking relieved shall be designated as my father because anyone was better than that previous scumbag.

And to the woman that gave birth to me... I am so sorry. If I had not been born to my perfect mother, you would have been the best thing for me to act as a parental figure. However, because I have a mom that I adore too much, I cannot call you my mother.

Instead, I shall nickname you as stepmother. That's the best I could do for you.

I can only hope that my dear mother who is far away now will understand my decision.

And, I beg for your forgiveness, my new family. I don't plan on getting to know you all better, nor do I have any intent on gaining strong relationships between all of you.

I have only one goal right now, and that is to show that bastard called God that I can win. To get back home... and ensure my mother can be happy once again.
