《Breaking the constellations》Chapter 15 - Camp

Gael left the camp and walked toward the crowd waiting by the gate. The survivors were organized and ready to go away. He nodded to the scouts and began to lead the group through the forest.

Some monsters attacked them on the way, but nothing that could stop the group. The procession continued for two days, until they arrived at the new camp.

Gael’s old camp was located on the southern border, but after many considerations it was relocated to the middle of the tutorial area in order to gather the groups with more ease. The position where they were right now was indeed the most effective in terms of logistics. The gathering of camps became much easier after changing locations.

Getting closer to the camp, Gael looked around and was amazed by what he was seeing.

The camp had become simply gigantic. Hundreds of people were reunited all over the camp, working together in order to fortificate the place. They gathered 2 thousand people from the camps all over the tutorial area. Gael almost didn’t rest, he went from camp to camp without stopping, defeating their leaders and convincing them to gather under his banner.

Huge walls made of wood and rocks surrounded the camp. Just like in Ron’s camp, Gael drafted a plan to build the walls, and some people bought the earth wall skill in order to build them. The skill was stacked many times in order to create walls that were 5 meters tall and 3 meters thick. He knew that these walls were still far from enough, but they would have to suffice for now.

Many tents bought from the store were all over the camp. The existence of such tents made the camp much bigger than necessary, as a lot of tents would be needed to accomodate all these people. There were some wooden buildings on the place making the white sea of tents stop, and bringing a new air to the place. These buildings were strategic locations like hospitals to treat the wounded or a barrack to keep supplies for the battles that would come. Of course, instead of doctors, these hospitals had people with different healing skills. There was only one doctor directing them.

The camp looked more like a strange sea of white tents than a proper place to fight, but they would have to bear with that.

Getting closer to the camp, he instructed the scouts to introduce the survivors to the camp. After saying everything that was needed, he proceeded toward the central building.

The building located in the middle of the camp looked more like a temple than a normal building. Tall pillars supported the place, and the ceiling was 6 meters tall. In the middle a fire burnt mid air, with no support. It was almost as if the fire was a living being, watching over all of their actions. The fire made a strange contrast to the conteslations that were drawn on the ceiling, the painting was so vivid that it looked like the real sky.

He arrived near the fire, and threw the crystal that was in his hand at it. The fire burned with more intensity for a moment, and after a few seconds went back to normal. However, it was obvious that the fire was bigger than before.

The structure was spawned by Monoceros after they captured almost all the camps.

He looked around the temple and saw the many seats arranged in a circular formation around the fire. And almost all the seats were taken, with only a few left empty. They called this the fire council, but everyone there knew that Gael was the main structure that glued everyone together.

“We were waiting for you.” John said from his seat. “We have many things to discuss.” Gael nodded to John and took his seat in the council.

Although they had captured numerous camps in the last week, only eight people were present in the room, counting Gael in. The reason was qualifications. Only some leaders were deemed strong enough to stand in the room and talk as equals. The other leaders were just average, or weak. They couldn’t lead their people from the frontline, and because of that were deemed unworthy.

The one that proposed a test of strength before accepting people on the council was Rude, but because the most powerful leaders were not against the idea, he quickly gathered support and reunited the strength of the camp around a selected few.

Gael had to admit that although Rude was an ambitious and greedy man, he knew how to play politics, and more importantly, he held power. Monoceros rewarded those that were in a position of leadership, and Rude took the opportunity well to grow his personal power. He had bought skills that allowed him to become pretty powerful, and with the support of his followers, Gael had to admit that he deserved his seat on the council.

There were eight people on the council, Gael, John, Rude, Helio (The mohawk guy), Sabrine, Hammad, Carter and Jina.

Sabrine was a black woman who mainly used thunder skills. She had earned respect of all the people from her camp with her strength and leadership capabilities. She was tall and slender, and her angled face was very seductive. She was one of the hardest leaders to subdue, Gael knew that he had almost lost to her. If it were not for soul eyes, he wouldn’t stand a chance at fighting with her. By the time Gael arrived at her camp, Sabrine had already gathered many survivors from other camps.

Hammad was one of the people that only stood in this room for being strong. The man didn’t have any leadership capabilities nor was he a leader of some camp. Gael had actually found him while he was running from one camp to the other, and after a fight, he convinced the man to be under his banner. Hammad used a short sword and a shield to fight, and relied on some enhancement skills in combat.

Carter was just a strong leader, he didn’t have anything too special about him. He was a middle aged man, before being transported to the tutorial he worked in the army. As a military man, he tried to rally more power because of his past, but most people weren’t convinced by that.

Jina on the other side was a european woman, she was famous all around the world for her prowess in archery, she was a gold medalist in the olympics. She bought some arrows related skills like fire arrow, ice arrow or lightning arrow and used a magic bow to shoot them, enhancing the power of the skills several times. Gael had to admit that from everyone in the tutorial, Jina was undoubtedly the one who had the best potential. He even guessed that her special ability was one related to archery.

After taking a look around, he took a deep breath and said.

“The camp is almost prepared. There are still some details that must be fixed, but almost everything is done. From what I observed the wall is ready, the only thing lacking is organizing the people.”

Sabrine looked at him and said. “And how will the people get ready?”

“They are used to fighting with weak opponents, but in two days it’ll be different. It has already been forty three days since the tutorial started, the last fifteen days are going to be totally different. Just like Monoceros warned us, we need to unite in order to survive. The invasors are not going to be simply goblins, hobgoblins and orcs, things are going to get really messy.”

Gael looked around and saw the doubts in everyone’s eyes. He understood why they were like that.

Monoceros had given them some tips since the beginning of the tutorial, things like ‘The humans need to unite, or all of you will die’ or ‘Ding dong, time is passing. forty five days is more than enough to get yourselves ready’ and many more mysterious tips like that.

There were two obvious meanings in those phrases, that the camps needed to unite, and that something big would happen on day forty six. most people believed that only some stronger monsters would appear, but they couldn’t be more wrong!

The creatures that attacked the camp until now were nerfed by the tutorial, they had their intelligence suppressed, and could only fight head on. But Gael knew that the restriction on the creature's intelligence would vanish, making them much stronger. Of course it was not only that, more creatures would be added, and their strength would go up each day.

If an Orc would only advance upon the survivors before, now, after they saw the walls, they would attack the gates with rammers or even command the archers to rain arrows over the city from a distance. And if they saw no hope in breaking into the camp, they would wait around the camp, and this was really the worst of all situations.

If the invaders from one day waited for the next, more and more creatures would accumulate around the camp, until some shamans showed up. Humans would have no way to survive if the camp was surrounded from all sides by uncountable enemies. Gael knew that they could hold on for so many days, but if too many enemies accumulated, they would simply destroy the walls and annihilate the camp.

“The tips that monoceros gave us are clear enough. We have to survive much harsher situations than we have faced until now.” He looked around and continued. “The monsters will only get stronger, we have to fight back with all we have.”

Carter harrumphed, and Gael gestured to him, giving him the word. “The enemies will surely be more fiercer from now on, and because of that we need to be more organized. The people in camp are just survivors fighting in hazard ways, using their skills randomly to kill the monsters that attack us. We need a proper army to survive.”

Gael agreed with Carter, in fact, he knew that this would be the difference between surviving or being annihilated.

Gael said “We will train the troops in working together. The main focus will be on combining skills like water ball with frost air. The combinations will allow us a greater variety of ways to attack, and more powerful ones.”

“I’ll be responsible for that then. It’s already something that I am researching upon, and training the troops will make things easier for me.” Jina said while looking around, as if asking if there was anyone better fitted for the job.

John grabbed the opportune silence and said. “That’s great Gael, I am sure that the power of the camp will be enhanced several times by doing that. But how about the others that fight in close range?”

“That’s easy.” Gael looked at him as if the answer was obvious. “They will train on how to keep formations. Formations for defence and attack will be of vital importance. Whatever will be attacking us won’t simply let the mages attack them.”

“Mages?! Hmmm… That’s a really fitting name.” Sabrine said.

“Well, it’s decided then. Jina and Sabrine will take care of the mages. Rude and John will supervise the constructions around the camp while Carter and Helio will train the close combat squad. Hammad and I will be responsible for gathering herbs in the forest. Is there anything else?” He looked around and saw that everyone nodded.

“Let’s get to work then.” After saying this, everyone got up and began their duties.
