《Breaking the constellations》Chapter 16 - Waiting

The next two days were stressful for Gael. He had to look around the camp, supervising the constructions and training that were ongoing. At the same time, he ran around the forest with Hammad to find herbs.
The constructions were not the thing that worried him the most, the thing on his mind was the training the soldiers were receiving. He had his visions to rely on, although he couldn’t learn much from then, at least he had a headstart unlike the soldiers.
Jina and Sabrine were doing a good job training mages, just like Carter and Helio. Just like Jina said, her research on using multiple skills was really bearing fruits, the attacks of the mage squadron was enhanced several times, and their finesse were polished by Sabrine.
Or the Warriors side though, Carter was doing most of the job. He hailed from the army, and knew pretty well how to get people on working together. The shield formations could quickly form themselves and dismantle to attack. Helio was there more like a supporting figure with his red mohawk. Gael even wondered how he kept his mohawk like that with everything that was happening.
Rude ran around the camp together with John while making buildings and organizing the people to make them. John relied most on brute force to make his buildings, he cut the nearby three and made wooden barracks. Rude on the other hand relied on his earth based skills to make his constructions.
Rude looked around and asked one of his subordinates “How is the plan? Is everything ready?”
“Sir… Things are not so simple… Other people are looking at our work, and because of that we are having difficulties in making some of them. But I guarantee that everything will be finished before the set date.” The man said with a humble face and a curved back.
Rude placed a hand on the man’s shoulder and said. “That’s great.” He gave a brief look around and continued. “Do you realize that our lives depend on that right? The other leaders may look rightful, but they are a bunch of shit! They only care for themselves. By following me your life will be guaranteed.” Rude’s voice trembled with emotion while he spoke, and his eyes burned with kindness. If someone didn’t know him through his actions, they would think that he was just a kind man looking out for someone else.
“Yes sir! I’ll do whatever I can!” The man nodded his head repeatedly and left right after.
He laid exhausted on his bed looking around the tent and feeling the strangeness of the situation.
He had never stopped since the day he received the vinsions from a future self. He knew that these visions were somehow real, the emotions and feelings that he saw on the visions were impossible to fake, or at least he thought so. Because of that he believed that these were visions from the future, and not a dream or delusion;

Since he arrived at the tutorial he had been fighting and kept going forward, in order to make use of the visions, and didn’t let them go to waste.
He was not the kind of guy that knew something was happening and did nothing about it. He had bought a diary from the shop special section, and wrote everything from the other diary there. Of course, not everything could be written, but he at least knew the most important things he had to achieve.
He rubbed the ring that was on his finger, and felt the weight upon him. He knew that some things would have to be done, and were inevitable. Gael couldn’t sleep and left the tent.
He walked around the camp and saw that some people were still awake. The ones awake surely were nervous, everyone knew that no risk surrounded the camp this night, but the next day would be hell.
He walked to the temple and saw Monoceros sitting by the entrance. The little creature was really mysterious. Even in his visions there was no recollection of what it was, or its objectives. Gael knew that asking was the only option, and he did that.
“Monoceros, what’s your objective?” He asked while looking at the creature lazing around. It was in its usual position, seating in the ground with a bored face.
“Ohhh..” It opened its eyes while faking suprise. “It looks like someone is finally interested in something important.”
“I am really interested in knowing that, could you please answer me?” The politeness in Gael’s tone was genuine. He didn’t know why they were here, or even if Monoceros brought them, the only thing he was sure about was that Monoceros gave them the means to survive, which was more than enough to him.
“Ok… I will answer your question, but only after you defeat the tutorial.” Monoceros looked into his eyes and continued. “But I have one condition that must be fulfilled. If I don’t consider you powerful enough there’s no deal.” A mysterious smile flashed on Monoceros strange face.
Gael wondered for a moment and answered. “Deal!” And left the place. He didn’t exitate in closing the deal with Monoceros because he already had his eyes on being the strongest. However, not everything was over, the last fifteen days would be the true trial after arriving in the tutorial. Gael knew that the trial was not only about individual strength, but more about cooperation.
From what he observed, the tutorial followed a trend, the first day served to exclude the weak or unprepared, and from there onward, it was all about individual strength and your cunning. But now, surviving as a group was necessary.
One of the information he got was that the forest would become much more dangerous from day forty six onward. Surviving alone or in small groups would be almost impossible, the best solution would be go stay in big groups in a fortificated place.

One of the reasons why Gael didn’t go after Ron was this. He knew that it would be almost, if not impossible for Ron to survive out there alone during the last days of the tutorial. But even so, he was worried about it. It was an unpardonable mistake that he made by letting Ron scape, but the past couldn’t be changed anymore.
Gael used the newly built stairs and ascended into the wall. He looked around and saw that Jina was also there, gazing at the forest. Her eyes looked around, as if searching for a target to practice.
There were still invasions on these two prior days, and they were on a much larger scale than before. However, the camp was well experienced in dealing with these invasions, they were even used as an opportunity to train the formations and skill combinations. And fortunately, the results were quite outstanding.
The survivors could form the formations with more naturality after using it in a real situation, and the skills were combined with more finesse. It was not easy to apply things that were newly learnt in combat. The first invasion they faced after beginning their practice showed how many flaws they had, and relying on that experience they fixed some things and began training again.
The invasion on day forty five only served to refine the use of the new tactics. They showed a really good power. Gael knew that if he went against that army, there was no way he would survive. He was only an individual, and his strengths could only be applied in limited directions.
Gael used the two days to improve his control over the soul eyes skill. However, the improvements he made were minimum. He couldn’t control the souls of dead creatures better than before, he could only move then a bit. He knew that it was an S+ skill, and that training it was an arduous process, but he would get the desired results some time. At least with the training he improved the soul paralysis, he could now stop several creatures on his range of vision.
The only great improvement that he made was the new use of his soul eyes that he discovered, what he called soul impact.
Unlike soul paralysis that required him to concentrate a constant pressure around the target, soul impact was just like it’s name, he concentrated his soul force through his eyes and projected it at once on the target, making the target stunned for some time.
Soul force was what he called the energy produced by the soul. Even though he had seen many things in his visions, he had never heard about soul force, or anything like it. Because he didn’t have any prior experience with soul force, everything was a new territory for him.
There was no source where he could draw upon, everything was done by experimenting and discovering how to use it. He realized that using a S+ skill was much harder than using a E or F skill. He had heard about it before, that the more powerful the skill, the harder someone would have to train in order to master the skill. That much was obvious in Gael’s mind, as he knew that greater power demanded greater effort, but he wanted it to not be so hard.
He looked at Jina, and remembered the attacks that she made using her bow. She had truly advanced on her research of how to combine skill in attacking. During the previous invasion, she combined a fire arrow and wind arrow in order to enhance the power of her attack.
Gael saw that the power wasn’t merely enhanced, it was outright multiplied! Her attacks were swift and powerful, and what impressed him even more was that even though she specialized in using a bow to attack, the bow she used had two blades on it, and she could use these blades to their full effect when fighting in close range. Of course, she was not much of a genius in close combat, but she could at least hold her ground.
Just as he was about to return to his tent he heard. “Do you think we’ll survive until the end of the tutorial? fighting at the frontlines is not always safe.” He saw Jina looking at him with her almond eyes while asking.
“Some say that only the strong can live. But those who are strong have more responsibilities, and greater responsibilities means more danger. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you’re strong or weak, what matters is if you’re lucky enough to survive.” He said while turning around and taking a good look at the camp. He knew that many wouldn’t make it.
“You talk as if you have no chance of dying, and only those who you’re looking at the camp will die. Why are you so sure you’ll live?”
“I’ll survive because I have to. There’s much more waiting for me after the tutorial.” He nodded her head to her and walked away after saying. “Good night.” He didn’t want to share more about his goals, they were only his, and speaking of them wouldn’t make his burden easier.
