《Breaking the constellations》Chapter 5 - Adapting

Goblins began to swarm from the forest. The nasty creatures were attacking again! But this time, there were a few changes.

Some of the goblins were bigger than the others, clearly showing that they were stronger, and many goblins were also mounted on hyena-like creatures. They dashed from the forest, and began to swarm toward the camp.

The survivors became agitated, but after yesterday's fight, they knew that the best way to survive was killing, killing everything around you! They kept their positions behind the barriers and swung their weapons around, trying to kill the goblins.

It was obvious that the strength of the majority of the camp had been elevated overnight. Gael speculated that almost everyone in the camp had their status on Low (middle), some people could have even achieved Low (high), enhancing their combat strength significantly.

Seeing that the creatures were about to clash with the defences, He stepped forward and began to kill.

His first target was a mounted goblin. The creature reached his head while mounted, and the short sper on its hand was directed to Gael’s head. He didn’t use his sword to directly attack the goblins, instead, he deflected the short spear using the sword and elbowed the goblin’s throat, using its momentum against it. “Crack!!” He heard a sickening sound while he hit the goblin. The creature was surely killed, however, instead of being happy he simply turned around and jumped at the hyena’s back, stabbing his sword through its spine and killing it.

He moved to the side and began to attack the other goblins that arrived just after the mounted one, there were five coming at his direction. He picked the short spear from the ground while running forward, threw the spear at the foremost goblin, it tried to evade the attack, but it was late. The short spear pierced through its chest, before it could fall to the ground, Gael grabbed the end of the spear and pierced another goblin that was coming behind the one he just killed.

He stepped back and grinned at the three that were left.

Everywhere Gael passed, blood would flow and heads would fly. The goblins were creatures that had most status at Low (low), and their only advantage lay on their big numbers and lack of hesitation. They used swarm tactics in order to face stronger enemies, but sometimes, numbers were not enough. Even though the survivors were not experienced fighters, being organized and with prepared barriers were enough to fight against the goblins.

The fight went on for 40 more minutes. The fight was gruesome and bloody. Fighting for 5 minutes was one thing, but fighting for 40 straight minutes was another. The survivors had an overwhelming advantage the majority of the fight, but the goblins had the numbers. The more they killed, the more goblins appeared. By the end of the fight, almost everyone was exhausted, and of course, Gael was no exception.

Gael looked around and saw that the fight went much better than yesterday. From the survivors, only seven had died today. Being on the defensive and fighting against dumb creatures had its advantages.

The bodies soon began to disappear, and a voice was heard. “Congratulations! Only by fighting you’ll get stronger!” A giggle could be heard from above. “Today your prize is going to be simply amazing!” Monoceros flew down and sat beside the bonfire while saying. “Beside your supplies, I’ll open a shop here, and you can buy many amazing things from me!” He looked around, but only saw the unmoving crowd. “Tsk, The contributions made during this fight can also be used to exchange for items.” He said and pouted like a child.

Gael shook his head and walked to Monoceros after grabbing his backpack. The materials he gathered in the forest would finally be useful. As he was approaching the bonfire, the crowd opened the way for him. Everybody had seen the massacre he created amidst the goblins, and how quickly he killed the creatures. They knew that messing with him was not the right choice.

Gael arrived before Monoceros and said. “I want to buy some things from you.”

Monoceros looked at him and smiled. “My first client! Welcome, welcome! Choose what you want to buy!” A screen appeared in front of Gael.

Gael shook his head after looking at the skills on sale. Skills like Firebolt or Earth bullet were useless to him, and even though some like hurricane and armored beast were powerful, he knew that they wouldn’t even be close to what he truly needed. After gathering his thoughts, he looked at Monoceros and said.

“I would like to exchange this sword for points.” He said while giving the creature the sword he won on the first day. Monoceros wasn’t in the mood for talking, and he only took the sword.

After seeing that his points had increased, he didn’t delay and exchange the rest of his points, putting on a request for a weapon to be made with the ores he collected through the forest, although they were just common mana iron ore, the weapon would suffice for now.

After that, he made the same request for a pill to be made. He spent fifty thousand points on both. After receiving his items, he walked to the side of the camp.

The utility of his visions were finally showing themselves. A lot of information about the tutorial was derived from them, unfortunately, the information after it was limited. He didn’t know why the visions were only concentrated around the tutorial, but he would take advantage of that as long as he could.

Gael looked at the glaive on his hand, and a smile appeared on his face. “Finally, I can finally run wild.” He suppressed the happiness inside him, diverting his eyes from the weapon and looking at the pill. Even though the ingredients used to make it were not the best ones, he hoped that it could save him when the time arrived. He placed the pill on his pocket and kept it at hand to a moment of need.

Gael was well aware that there were only two ways to reach his objective. They were either earning a huge sum of points, or killing the undead zone boss. He knew that points could be earned by killing creatures through the forest or defending the camp. Both had their good and bad sides.

Protecting the camp was easier and safer, comrades would work with you toward a common goal.

Killing creatures in the forest was way riskier, even though the points earned were higher, the dangers were proportional.

Gael knew that from tomorrow onward, the camp wouldn’t require his help. By buying skills and equipment on the shop, they would get much stronger, having enough power to protect the place.

He made up a plan on what he would do. He knew that they were only on the second day of the tutorial. And even though Monoceros didn’t say anything, he knew that the tutorial would last two months. The first days were the hardest ones, where most casualties from monsters happened, and after that, the camps would begin to explore their surroundings, discovering other camps, and even killing amongst themselves.

The people would stay in the camps for at most one week, and after that, they would explore the forest during the day.

Gael got rid of these thoughts and entered the forest after making his plans. He would hunt in the forest, in the direction where he knew no one would interfere, and only return to the camp to exchange for pills or other stuff.

Gael Looked down at his clothes. If they were ragged before, they were definitely rags by now! His body was full of scars, but his back was straight. Gael had been hunting in the forest for two weeks. He hunted a variety of monsters that were lurking around the forest, and extracted some ores and herbs from their lairs.

The ores that he used to make his glaive were good, but they couldn’t even compare to the ones he had on his back right now. He entered earth golem lairs in order to hunt for these ores, and even climbed a mountain to find another one.

The ores he used to build his glaive was just ordinary mana iron, but what he had on his backpack was cloud steel and gravity iron. Both of them were rare ores that had different properties.

Cloud steel wasn’t very strong, but it was as light as a feather. You wouldn’t even think you had a chunk of ore in your hand if you held it.

Gravity iron on the other hand had two main properties, it was very resistant, the strongest ore that could be found in the tutorial, however, it was too heavy. The weight of the material made it almost impossible for it to be used, so much that people often deemed the ore worthless. Gael was even struggling to carry it on his back right now.

However, the real treasure that he picked up was another ore, one called Memory iron. This material was even harder to find after the tutorial, and would often bring a river of blood with it. Memory iron gave the item made regeneration properties. After being cast, the weapon could remember it’s original form and after getting distorted or even it was made into pieces, they would gather together and reform, almost as if they were alive.

This property made the ore extremely valuable, however, finding it was even harder. Luckly, Gael saw a piece of this ore in his memories, making it worth the effort to acquire it.

Just as he was about to arrive at the camp, he heard some explosions happening in the distance.
