《Breaking the constellations》Chapter 4 - Bloodshed

After killing the first goblin, he began a massacre. All the goblins around him were killed in almost an instant. Gael was not much stronger than the goblins, however, his experience created a gap that couldn’t be bridged.

He killed and killed, he moved his horizontally while giving fatal wounds to the creatures, he stepped back when he was beginning to be surrounded and moved forward when he had the space. After some time, he began to feel tired. From what he counted, he had killed more than a hundred goblins by now. Most of his clothes were torn to shreds, and he had blood all over his body. If it was not for his agility achieving Low(high) He couldn’t possibly be doing this.

Gael saw that most of the goblins that came from his side were already dead, however, the survivors were not so well off. Even though they had wooden spears that had superior reach, many of them died in the attack, and the ones that were left were struggling to survive.

“No wonder the tutorial was called the great culling.” He said in a low voice while running around the camp.

He helped the survivors by killing the goblins around the ones that were struggling to fight with them. The ones that were holding on were not helped by him, as he considered the experience of fighting the creatures a form of tempering. The goblins were not that strong, what made them dangerous was that they swarmed towards a target without fear, even if many goblins were killed, the others wouldn’t give up.

The fight was finally over, but no one was cheering. The exhausted bodies and traumatized faces of the survivors showed that there was nothing to be proud of in this fight, after all, almost half of the camp perished.

From the 200 initial people, 87 had died fighting the goblins. And the ones that survived were not in a good condition, they were mostly tired and hurt. The people were frustrated and scared, but at least they were alive.

Being thrown into an alien place and having to kill creatures that you never saw in order to survive was a shocking experience to say the least. Most of those that died couldn’t react properly to the situation and do what was needed, and the other part was due to clumsiness and some accidents. But what happened today would create a shadow over everyone’s heart that would never disappear.

clap. clap. clap. “What a good show it was.” The voice saying this came from above the camp, Monoceros stood there with his wings slowly fluttering behind him. “All of you will get your deserved reward.”

A bright light descended from the sky, and shone upon the survivors, soon, pills laid in front of everyone. All of them had different colors and emitted stronger or weaker lights, but there was no doubt that Gael’s pill was the best one, it shone like a sun.

“These pills will be your reward on the first day, they are strengthening pills and can make your bodies stronger.” He pointed to the bonfire making a pile of resources appear before it. “None of you can call me a liar now, right? The resources I promised are all in there.”

The crowd looked with furious eyes toward Monoceros, but no one dared to say anything, after yesterday's show of strength, they knew it was better to stay quiet.

“Bye bye. Survive tomorrow’s invasion and there will be more rewards.” Monoceros disappeared.

Gael swallowed the pill and felt its energy madly coursing through him. Unlike the effect of the herb he consumed in the forest, the pill had an instantaneous effect.

The effects of the pill were better than expected. All his status were now Low(peak), and many doors opened before him. “If only I received a pill like this everyday…” Although the pills were an amazing reward, enough to make him much stronger, they were only distributed after surviving the fight, if the pills were given earlier, many more would make it.

He looked around and saw that the bodies of the dead were disappearing, turning into light and vanishing. The people in the camp were clearly relieved that the bodies were disappearing, at least it was something that they wouldn’t have to take care of.

He walked to the bonfire and saw the many provisions around it. From what anyone could see, the provisions were enough for everyone to eat, but they were hesitant to go for it. Gael strode forward and grabbed one of the backpacks that were conveniently prepared and filled it with supplies, but just enough to eat until the next day.

Just as the people were about to flock to the bonfire, a group stopped in front of the resources and said. “These resources shall be divided equally, they are not to be hoarded.” Rude stood in front of the resources surrounded by his group. After only a day, their group had grown to almost 40 people.

“Some evils are necessary…” Gael though. Although he didn’t like Rude, he knew that his leadership would unite the camp, at least for some time, making surviving easier. A leader was necessary in times of hardship, and even if the person in question was hungering for power, it was better than nothing.

The thought of leading the camp didn’t even cross Gael’s mind. Interacting and leading a lot of people were not his style, after all, they would only hinder his objectives for now. Ignoring the people, Gael rested for a short while before heading back to the forest. His status were now Low(peak), the limit of the human body. Low(high) was what a top athlete could achieve in their old world. The strongest man could only get to Low(peak) in strength if he arrived here, or even the fastest man would have Low(peak) agility. Low(Peak) was what top athletes could theoretically achieve, it was a realm that only a few in the old world achieved. “Only that cursed clan would have all status at the peak of low tier after arriving here…” Gael sighed for a moment after remembering the injustices of destiny. He walked through the forest and disappeared amidst the trees.

Rude was shocked after seeing the slaughter caused by Gael. The man looked more like a force of nature than a person in his eyes. He knew he was a greedy man that loved to be in a position of power, but some things were better left alone.

The scarred upper body of Gael showed that this man wouldn’t simply submit to him, nor there was a reason to. After fighting the creatures that many called “goblins” he realized that power was the only way to rule in this world. He looked around the people he gathered under him with his persuasive words and saw what needed to be done.

He swallowed the pill and felt his body getting more powerful. He would have to lay low for now and change how he acted, but gathering power was his priority. A cold glint appeared in his eyes while he looked around the camp.

Gael arrived at the camp late at night. He saw a few changes that were made all around the place. Wooden barricades were built all around, and even though the people looked tired, working toward a goal was better than staying still.

He looked around and saw a clear division on the camp, on one side stood Rude and his crew, and on the other John.

John showed courage by stepping forward and taking a leadership role yesterday, and his attitude gave him a lot of credit over the camp, making him take over some people under him. Gael entered the camp and walked toward John.

Seeing Gael getting closer, John got up and walked to him. “Hey Gael. What happened to you?!” John asked while looking at Gael ragged form.

Gael went through many dangers in the forest, fighting powerful enemies and collecting necessary resources, and in the process injuries were inevitable, but he got what he wanted in the end.

“There’s nothing to worry about. I only have to tell you that entering the forest right now is not good for you guys.” He looked around and saw the others sitting on the ground, quietly talking. “There are resources in the forest that can make you stronger, but you first need to get all your status to at least Low high to explore it in teams.”

John nodded after listening to Gael’s advice and said. “Take a rest, you should be tired.”

Gael nodded and moved to the side. He looked at his backpack and was happy with the loot. Most of the items on the backpack were ores that would be useful starting from tomorrow.

Because all his status were Low (peak), he wouldn’t be able to make them evolve, however, all would be solved tomorrow. Gael rested for the rest of the night, while remembering the technique that he could finally use because his mana achieved low (peak)

Shadow step was a movement technique that allowed him a greater range of freedom while fighting. Avoiding a powerful enemy attack was not hard anymore. The only downside was that the technique used too much mana, and he could only use it 8 times in his current state.

Shadow step basically involved concentrating mana on his legs and doing a specific set of steps. The technique didn’t require much from the body, as it was only a basic technique, before getting his mana to low(peak) he could barely use it one time, now his horizon had shifted, a lot more things could be achieved.

The sun slowly rose on the horizon, showering golden light all over the field. Everyone was already waiting. They hid behind the barriers, while waiting for the enemy that would show up.

Gael looked around and saw that the two sides had come to a compromise. Rude’s would take one side, and John’s the other. John didn’t even need to know what happened yesterday to separate the camp on two sides. Even though Rude had compromised after yesterday's invasion and had taken a soft approach, many could see that he wanted to rule like a king, of course, his facade would conquer many people, but many wouldn’t bother with him.

Gael shook his head and looked at the forest. “Today is going to be the real challenge.”

Everybody stood behind the barriers, wielding the weapons left behind by the goblins and some wooden spears. Although the goblin’s weapons would be more useful for combat, most of them could only be used in close range, something that most survivors were still not comfortable enough to do.

The forest trembled for a moment, and after a few seconds, the attack started!
