《The Divine Traits》Chapter 9: Examination Begins

-Somewhere below the Fortress-
A big blue flash could be seen in an empty semi-large auditorium. After the flash 100 humanoid figures could be seen in the hall including Jericho.
A guy walked up onto the stage in a beautiful white robe with gold inlined in the gown. The scene looked like an angel addressing the human race of their place in the world.
"Attention," the figure on the stage said, once he saw that no one was calming down or sitting down he yelled out with magic coating his voice enhancing the sound. "ATTENTION!!!" this got everyone's attention immediately the hall became quiet almost instantly.
"Thank you, if you all will please sit down and I will explain things to you all," the figure said
once the person on the stage saw everyone seated, he started to explain the examination
"I will be your examiner today and throughout the week or however, it takes to get this over with. The examination is more like a battle of the fittest, you all will be transported to an island isolated deemed worthy of the battle once the battle starts you all must kill each other to survive, the last 10 people will survive and be accepted into the academy, the other 90 will die" once the figure stated it this he stopped talking for his words to seep into the people below.
Jericho was wide-eyed, scared and mad at Zelus the most.
The figure continued to speak "it seems you all have been told earlier about what will happen today, good but I will continue to explain. You all will get a partner in the battle to survive with if you both survive, you both will be roommates throughout your time at the academy. I suggest not to hide; if you are detected hiding throughout the whole match and get zero kills during this examination, you won't get in and will be immediately killed once you get back. That is the fate of all cowards in this world, its a dog eat dog world out there, this examination will prove who has the right to survive in this world, with that said good luck, the seats you are in are made to teleport you to the island in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1..." the figure said and after his count down a large blue flash could be seen throughout the whole auditorium after said flash the room was emptied except for the figure on the stage

-Somewhere on a "random" island-
Two bright blue flashes could be seen in a thick forest, just like they appeared they disappeared randomly.
Jericho jumped back right after he felt he was back on the ground, activating his blad workshop ability, instantly two ethereal blades appeared in his hands as he looked upon the girl that appeared next to him.
The girl was a brunette, with green eyes, she wore a feminine version of his uniform.
"u-u-um, I'm gonna guess we're partners" she finally stammered out after a few seconds of them staring directly at each other"
"I'm Jenna" she said
Jericho stayed staring at her for a few more moments until he finally sighed and said
"I'm Jericho, you might be right that we're partners if that's true we need to start moving we are in a hostile environment, with no food, shelter, and no idea how far the nearest person is that will probably kill us." Jericho then let go of the connection to his swords, and they disappeared
Jenna looked at them disappeared and firmly stated: "if we are gonna work together we are gonna need to know each other's skills and power class, I'm a battle class geomancer, I'm gonna guess you're a battle class bladesmith based on those 'swords'."
"yeah you could say something like that, well let's get moving, we need to move to an open plane, preferably one with some shelter," Jericho said
they started to jog in a random direction, Jenna explained her class saying that she can change the landscape into offensive powers, while Jericho stayed silent about his powers, about an hour later they came into an open plane with a waterfall and cave, two other people were there drinking from the river connected to the waterfall
Jericho stopped Jenna before they went out into the open,

"see them there; if we want to survive we need to kill, and that means we need to kill them so while I go out and fight the front lines, I'm gonna need you to make their area enclosed with spikes that curve towards them like a cage" Jericho ordered
Jenna nodded, then Jericho formed 2 ethereal swords in his hands and ran in, right when he got near the two by the waterfall, he could feel the ground tremble as giant spikes started to enclose around them, Jericho ran and started to slice and stab at the two, try as they might block the swords phased through their blocking and Jericho managed to get in 2 fatal wounds on one of them, just as that one fell, and fireball flew at Jericho's face, the ground trembled again, and a line of spikes blocked the fireball and started to wave into the mage impaling her through her torso.
the ground shook again as the spiked cage went back into the ground with Jenna on the other side sweating crazily while panting she said
"well we now know that this thing is real, but bad things aside we have shelter now!"

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

It’s been over twelve thousand years since the Book of War was last opened. It was believed to be destroyed during the Great War by the Twelve Warriors and Daughter of the Sun at the cost of their lives. Now, it seems the book has resurfaced, and its new master is seeking to forever tip the balance of power. The stage is being set for another Great War but who can stop the Book of War once and for all? Meanwhile on Earth, the teen members of Greengale’s Action and Adventure Club are preparing for their yearly trip when they suddenly stumble upon a secret their parents have been keeping for years. Now their world is being turned upside down as they struggle to understand the legacy that ties their fate to Mendala and the Book of War. Is their destiny set in stone, or will they forge a different path? No matter what, their choices will bring forth a new era for Mendala. ------------------------------ If you love vast fantasy worlds, rich, fleshed-out characters, and a adventure where your'e constantly discovering new things along the way, then this is definitely a story you'll enjoy. This is a slow-burn high fantasy / adventure with many characters and intersecting plotlines. It’s a quest so lots of adventuring, exploring, and character moments, but not a ton of fighting/action (though there are definitely some great fight scenes as payoff to the buildup). Because it’s a fantasy world with lots of people and new concepts, I try to make it easy so that you don’t have to memorize anything. The narrative will constantly remind you of important people/places/concepts as you keep moving forward. Some things won’t be fully explained right at the beginning to avoid information overload. My goal is that the reader will learn things organically as the story progresses. I use two mechanisms to help with the intersecting plotlines. - Each chapter is named for the (main) plotline it’s following and which part. - At the beginning of the chapter, and anytime there is a scene shift, the location is listed. Also, though this is definitely a portal-fantasy (isekai) it’s different from the standard isekai, especially since the world transfer doesn’t happen immediately. It’s not Lit-RPG but characters gain powers and grow over time. Also, it’s a group of teens that transfer, not just one central character. All of the teens are distinct characters, with their own character-arcs, relationships, powers, growth etc. Hopefully you’ll find this interesting as you’ll see the world and story from multiple perspectives. The story is always in 3rd Person (Omniscient) POV so that it’s not jarring as perspectives shift.
