Chapter Twelve

Exactly one week later, Li Feng stands outside his family’s estate with Lam Bai. Nobody is there to see them off, but some servants came to say goodbye to Lam Bai before she left. None of Li Feng’s brothers were sad to see him leave. On the contrary, they were glad. The gladness is shared with Li Feng, who views his being kicked out as an invitation to go on a vacation.

Among their luggage is three gray tunics and two pairs of shoes for Li Feng, and two servant uniforms and one pair of shoes for Lam Bai. Also, hidden between the clothes is a locked box with twenty thousand coins in it, Lam Bai keeping the key hidden on her person. In addition, Li Feng and Lam Bai both have an identification card, which identifies Li Feng as a child of the Li family in Shijiang, and Lam Bai as his servant.

Lam Bai calls for a passing rickshaw, and both of them get in. In Lam Bai’s pocket is six hundred coins so she doesn’t have to open the locked box until they reach a safe location.

The rickshaw takes Li Feng and Lam Bai to the north end of the city, not too far away, and they exchange the rickshaw for a wagon. The wagon will take them to the city of Quanchang, a heavily industrial city located between two mountains. Because of the location, iron and coal are frequent exports of the city. There are not many Mortal, Spirit, or Ascendant stage cultivators there, but the number of Body stage cultivators is far greater than Shijiang.

For three weeks, Li Feng and Lam Bai travel along the road leading to Quanchang, the first destination in Li Feng’s quest for enlightenment.
