《The Rise of the Humans (An Apocalyptic Litrpg)》Chapter 10

Before we entered the dungeon, we needed to be prepared. We had no idea how easy or difficult the dungeon would be, how many levels, or basically anything about it. The only thing that we knew was that we weren’t going to let anyone else lose their life trying to help us get through it. It was only going to be me and my friends. Checking my character sheet I saw many people hopping on to my stream.

We waited a few hours, making sure that we were ready, and we left. I led the way, behind me was complete silence. Everyone was looking around, making sure that there wasn’t anything nearby. We passed the people camping outside of the house, most happy to be somewhere safer than where they were before. Others were not, looking at the house in anger, fear, or discontent. We passed all of them and arrived at the dungeon. We made one final check. We were ready.

When we entered, the first thing that I noticed was how small of a room we were in. On the other side, there were two knights and a spider. I frowned. They were all level two. This was too easy of a fight. We easily cut through all of them, not letting them do any damage. We walked through a door, water dripping down onto us.

The next room was bigger. There was plenty of space for us to move around. I scanned the room, and didn’t see anything. “Do you guys see anything?” I asked, getting nervous. Niels walked around all of the edges of the room, not getting attacked at any part.

“There’s nothing.” I walked through another door and found the same thing. This is unsettling. The rooms were getting larger and larger but none of them had any monsters. We walked through a few more rooms, all of them without monsters. I went through another door, and I suddenly knew where all the monsters had gone. On the other side of the room, there was a large creature, almost like a slime, with monsters inside of it. The monsters inside were getting larger and larger the longer they were in the slime.

“This isn’t good,” Sarah said as Justin and Daniel shook their heads. Niels got his sword out. A spider popped out of the slime. It was much larger than any other spider that we had fought, and when it moved, it looked sharper with its movements.

Mutated spider: Level 5

Suddenly, more and more monsters started coming out of the slime. An army of monsters were right ahead of us, and we couldn’t fight them all. We tried to retreat, but the door behind us was locked. There was no way out. The first spider slowly approached us. We got our swords and bows ready. When it reached us Niels cut it in half. The others all went back a bit after seeing that. It seemed that unlike most monsters that had no regard for their life, these monsters did.

I threw a fireball at the monsters and was surprised to see that it didn’t seem to do anything. All I had managed to do was make them mad. They started charging at us, ready to take us down. When it was only one or two monsters, we could win the fight, but we were going to have to face what looked like 30 monsters. I ran up to them summoning an exploding fireball. There was no guarantee that this was going to work, but it was the only way I could think of to escape with our lives.

I ran over to the monsters jumping through to the centre of them. I released my exploding fireball there, and ran away to the slime as quickly as I could. Behind me I heard and felt the fireball exploding, hopefully killing enough of the monsters for the rest of my group to fight. I summoned another fireball, making it as big as I possibly could, its flames licking my hand. I charged at the slime, and pushed my fireball into it. The slime felt like it was cutting my hand off. Gritting my teeth I put the fireball as far into the slime as I possibly could, before releasing it. Looking back, I saw that my exploding fireball had done lots of damage, allowing my allies to fight evenly with the monsters, both sides locked in a stalemate. Looking back at the slime, I saw that my fireball was successfully melting the slime, and anything that was still in it. Running back I picked up my sword and sliced through a spider that was attacking Sarah. After that, the rest of the battle went by smoothly, but my right hand felt strange after sticking it into the slime. Finally, after a few more minutes of fighting, we had beaten the dungeon. Lots of loot fell onto the ground. I picked it up, not worrying about it because my hand felt extremely strange. Looking at it, I tried to move it around a bit. It stretched out in front of me shocking all of us. I tried to pull it back, which I managed to do. We all looked at my hand in shock. The slime had mutated my hand. I experimented with it, finding that besides stretching it, I didn’t have any other strange abilities.

“Why do you get all the cool stuff,” Niels said, “The rest of us to cool stuff too! You are the only one who ever gets anything out of it,” His voice got angrier and angrier as he spoke.

“You can take all the loot if you want it,” I told him.

“That’s it?” Sara said. I shrugged. Turning around to exit the dungeon, the rest of my party following me.
