Kaoru ran for Ai, he swung his blade of wind down, it connected with the roof of the Magic Bakemono's bright green shield. "Stay away." Ai mumbled.
"Your pathetic little shields won't save you." Kaoru laughed mercilessly as he pushed his wind sword down harder, cracking the shield. He pushed harder and in response Ai's shield shattered into pieces.
Kaoru grinned an evil one as he released a blastoff wind from his palm, knocking the air out of Ai. The dark haired man then proceeded to punch the girl in the gut. Ai spit out blood upon impact. Kaoru with his fist still in Ai's gut released another blast off wind sending Ai sliding across the roof.
Kaoru proceeds to kick Ai off the roof. Luckily the white haired female grabs onto the ledge as she dangles from it. However Kaoru stomps his heavy foot on Ai's hands. "Ow!" Ai yelps.
Kaoru pushes his feet down harder on the poor girls' hands as she begins to feel her bones pop. "Gonna let go yet? Or do you just want me to crush you to death?" Kaoru laughs as his shoes dance around Ai's bleedings hands.
"Stop it!" AI yelps again.
"Are you in pain yet?" Kaoru asks as he continues to crush Ai's hands.
"Yes! Stop!" The girl begs her bright red eyes pleading for mercy.
"Well, you clearly haven't felt enough pain. Since you're still hanging on to the ledge! Kaoru swings his blade of wind at Ai. Both the sword and its wind make contact with her face. Now mostly covered in blood.
AI tightened her grip on the ledge. "I won't let go." She stammered. "You won't separate me from Sato!" Ai bit onto Kaoru's leg.
"Hey get off me!" Kaoru tried to shake Ai off his leg a she backed away but Ai kept her bite strong until she was back on the roof. "Damn you." Kaoru cursed at Ai. "Get ready to die!"
Kaoru lunged for Ai readying his sword for an attack as he swung Ai just barely managed to s duck under it. She wasn't very good at fighting but she didn't know what else to do so she threw the best punch she could at the villain. Kaoru quickly caught her wrist before her fist could make contact. He began to squeeze her wrist tightly.
"You see kid. This is what happens when you get on my bad side." Kaoru scowled. "You should've just stayed in the dungeon. Cause now you're gonna die!"

Kaoru slowly raised his wind sword skyward, an enormous amount of air pressure revolved around the weapon as he did so. "No!" Ai struggled to free her wrist from Kaoru to no avail. "Let me go go!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.
Sato eyes shot open as Ai screamed. Kaoru swung down the blade slicing Ai's shoulder, blood came spurting out. Some of it splashed onto Sato's face. The purple haired teen watched in horror as his friend slowly smashed into the ground. Blood seeping out from underneath her.
Everything went black.
Footsteps echoed as the person they belonged to charged Kaoru. A forceful fist connected with Kaoru's chin as Sato delivered a powerful uppercut knocking the enemy off his feet. Sato didn't stop there. He quickly brought out his leg kicking Kaoru's midsection sending him flying to the other side of the roof.
Before Kaoru could make a move, Sato appeared before the man. His eyes full of anger and rage. He stroke Kaoru with a barrage of vigorous punches. Each one stronger and more brutal than the last. "You bastard!" The angry teenager shouted. "How dare you do that to her!"
Sato was boiling with fury. One of his closest friends had been brutally slaughtered right in front of his eyes. "I'll make you pay." He said lowly, clenching his fist.
Sato rushed Kaoru as his opponent swung his wind sword down at him. Sato ran through the attack. He began to bleed all over. Ye the felt no pain. Right now, all he felt was anger. Rage. "Kaoru…I'll kill you a thousand times over!"
Sato brutally beat up Kaoru firing off punch after punch. And kick after kick. Kaoru was on his knees now. "Please, have mercy!" He begged.
"Have mercy?" Sato questioned angrily. "Did you have mercy when you were torturing Ai?! I didn't think so!" Sato yelled furiously at the man standing before him.
Ai's eyes slowly began to pen. Although she couldn't move or speak.
"I'm sorry." Kaoru apologized. He managed to get out some tears as well.
Sato looked down at Kaoru begging for his life. He wasn't interested in his groveling or his fake tears. "Sorry? Sorry doesn't cut it. Sorry doesn't bring Ai back!" Sato grasped Kaoru's throat as he began to choke the man. "You're dead!" Sato tightened his grip.
Ai watched in horror as her friend choked Kaoru to death. This…this made Sato seems like the villain. She didn't like this side of him at all. "Sato.." She muttered. "Stop."

Kaoru released a sphere of wind from his hand. He hurled it at Sato, freeing himself. "Ha! I'm safe!" Kaoru wind sword began to disappear. "What the hell? Where'd my sword go?!"
"You broke the contract." A gentle but serious voice rang in his head.
Sato bent his knees stretching out his leg to get Kaoru off balance. As Kaoru fell he let go of the key in his hand. The key spun in mid-air until it landed in Sato's grasp. "Got it."
"Damn it. It looks like I can't use the Sacred Key of Wind anymore. Oh well." Kaoru said as he pulled out a gun from his pocket."
"Sato!" Ai shrieked.
Sato quickly turned his head realizing that she was alive. He smiled, although it quickly faded when he realized who Kaoru's real target was. "Ai! Look out!" He shouted.
Sato ran in front of Ai just as the bullet shot fired off. It struck him in the stomach. He stumbled off of the roof.
"SATO NO!" Ai screamed.
Sato plummeted through the sky. He closed his eyes as he passed through the clouds. "Only a week. And it's already all over, huh?" He laughed at himself. "How pathetic. Am I right Dad? King Akio?"
Suddenly Sato opened his eyes and was on top of a mountain. Strong winds were blowing all around. A tornado appeared in front of Sato. A lady, nearly invisible surrounded by wind and bird flew out of the tornado. "Greetings, Yamagata Satoshi."
Sato was too awe-struck at what he just saw and where he was to respond.
"Or do you prefer Sato of the Heroic Four?" The strange woman asked.
Sato snapped out of his daze. "Uh, just Sato's fine. Who are you?" He asked in a slightly rude manner. I'm the Spirit of Wind." The woman replied in a kind and gentle tone.
Sato nods, "Cool. So why am I here?"
The Wind Spirit answers his questions. "You had the key in your hand. And since you were near the wind, I was able to connect with you. So would you like to make a contract and harness my power?"
"Come again?" Sato didn't understand.
"By making a contract with me, you gain the ability to use wind." The Wind woman explained.
"Well thank you." Sato expressed his gratitude. "But I'm very happy with my own strength."
"Well well." The Spirit started. "Aren't we a proud one? But you never know when it'll come in handy. At least have a little fun with it okay?"
Sato sighed, "Sure. So how do we do this?"
"All you have to do is swear to abide by these rules. Number one, remember the wind is your friend, never show fear of heights. Number two, never command the wind to help, ask for its help, and Number three, NEVER EVER, use the power of wind while angry. It can cause devastating effects. So if you're gonna agree to the contract. You'll have to calm down?"
"What do you mean?" Sato acted as If he was calm.
"I can sense you're anger." She warned Sato.
"Fine." Sato took a deep breath and released all his anger with it. "I swear to abide by the rules of the Wind."
"Very nice." The Wind Spirit said as she disappeared into the air.
Sato warped back into the sky, still falling from the building. He glanced over at the golden key in his hand as it began to glow. Sato started levitating in mid-air. H realized he was flying. He sot straight up to the top of the building.
Sato landed on the roof right behind Kaoru. He tapped his shoulder. "Guess who?" Just as Kaoru turned his head around, Sato punched him right in the face, knocking him out for good. He began to dissolve.
Sato caught his breath as he plopped onto the floor. "Right, he's just a clone. Only six more to go." Sato tried to smile but every time, he almost made on, he couldn't help but look over at Ai's bloody face. "We need to get you patched up." He said with a concerned look on his face.
"Leave it to me." Hikari climbed onto the roof with Hibiki following behind her. "Good job taking care of Kaoru, Sato."
"Yeah, some job I did." Sato said clearly disappointed he wasn't able to protect Ai.
"You did the best you could." Hibiki tried to comfort him.
"Sato. I wanna learn how to fight." Ai spoke up. "Will you teach me?"

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
