《Cutthroat》Episode 2: Chapter 22 - Black and Pink

“Thunderbolt!”
The card in my hand glowed and called forth thunder. Behind me, my big brother laughed. My face twitched and I turned around, pouting and with my hands on my waist.
“I can’t help it! Andi named them for me!”
I said as an excuse and he laughed even more. He removed his thick rimmed glasses and wiped the tears forming in the corner of his eyes. I can’t blame him, I was wearing a yellow dress which made me more like a joke.
“No… hehe… sorry… pfft! It’s just—! Pwahahahahaha! Sorry!”
His silky black hair swayed while laughing even more. He held his stomach and touched a tree for support.
“I’m not gonna say ‘pik*chu’ you know.”
I imitated the cute voice of the P*kem*n every kid loved. Hearing this, he laughed even more, keeling over the ground. I sighed at how easy it is to make my big brother laugh.
“Come now, big sis is waiting!”
I stomped my feet while he struggled to stand up holding his stomach. He held out his hand and I pulled him with all my might.
“Yeah, haha! Sorry…”
He smiled, it’s been a while since I saw that smile. Big brother truly cherishes bis sis, so much so that he turned into trash without her.
Oh well, I’m used to Andi’s antics, might as well watch over my hopeless big brother.
I don’t know if he sensed my surrender or if he heard the silent sigh I made, but he ruffled my pink hair that took a long time to style.
Now, my hairpins are all over the place!
He walked ahead and crossed over the burnt corpses, leaving me with a sense of defeat.
“Can you tone it down a little? It’ll be bad if society runs out of bad guys.”
Isn’t that good?! Bad people should just die!
Both big sis and big bro have this belief that everything should be balanced. Is that why they joined Boss’ Dragon’s eye back on Earth and why we continued it here? I sighed knowing my question will be left unanswered since those two always kept it a mystery.

“I can’t believe they really sent people to kill Mastris. What were they thinking?”
He pushed his glasses back and his blue eyes glowed. He taught me this magic enhancement recently, he says it’s similar to big sis’ use of qi to enhance her sight and kinetic vision. But this one is more special, having filters like night and thermal visions. And like a phone camera, it can zoom in and you can share the vision using another magic.
It’s like social media, isn’t it? #spyingonmybigsis
A scowl covered his pretty face, it looked like his laugh trip earlier didn’t happen.
“What’s up? Can’t find sis?”
I want to look too, but I can’t maintain it properly, last time I did, I was blind for a whole day. As I was planning to ask for him to share, he clicked his tongue and held his dagger.
“They’re planning to set up a curse around the manor. A klick away from each other, there’re three outside and two inside the house. Here.”
He touched my head and a flood of information rushed inside. They were indeed a klick away from each other. Two mages were wearing servant’s outfit and the rest wore hooded robes. They only circled around the banquet hall where the population is much denser.
“What?! They’re planning to kill the guests too?!”
No wonder big brother was angry.
“I’ll take the ones outside, while you take the two inside. If you make contact with Li, don’t let her out of your sight. Understand?”
He left and ran at full speed not even hearing my answer.
“I guess I’ll go do my orders. It’s not like they’re gonna be a match for—… wait… This is a disaster!”
I was preoccupied with my angry brother that I forgot I’m no good with magic battles! I might end up destroying the house.
“Gah! Stupid big brother! Did you leave your brain with big sis, or what?!”
Crap! Oh, wait… I don’t have to use magic! I just have to kill them!

I was embarrassed at my stupidity. The logic of fighting magic vs magic had been a norm to me because I wanted to practice my magic. I forgot that I only need to kill them, so I’ll just have to slice, mince or chop them up properly, right?
“Hehe~! Now, how should I enter, hm~?”
I didn’t run as fast as big brother but I ran fast enough to reach the manor in time. I entered quietly from the front door, there was no one around because they were focused on the first intruders so they didn’t think a second one would enter brazenly from the front.
I practically skipped through the corridor and found one of my targets who’s setting up part of the magic circle. She was wearing a maid’s uniform while carrying a wooden staff with a giant magic stone on top.
I looked around for a weapon and found a bust of the Marquis. While she was focused on chanting, I sneaked up behind her and hit her hard with the bust.
“Hmm.. I think Andi would say ‘You’re busted!’ if he saw this~!”
I smiled happily and dropped the bust on her head multiple times. Enough to crush her head properly.
“Can’t have her reviving after all~!”
I patted my hand together and the yellow dress I’m wearing. I was glad I imbued my clothes with water resistance magic so blood won’t stick to it or any other liquid.
“All I have to do is pat them dry~! Now, where to again?”
I hummed while I look for something to kill the last one. I found some knives on a cart filled with cutleries while I passed through one of the doors to the banquet all. In the carnage, I saw unconscious people lying on the ground and a dead mixture of assassins, and soldiers. There, I saw big sis wearing a light blue dress that looks absolutely immaculate on her— walk out to the gardens.
“Well, it’s not like she’s gonna leave. I don’t know why big brother worries so much. Reunions should happen on a lovely setting!”
I turned to leave and looked for my last target. On the other side of the hall, another maid was carrying the same exact staff the other was using while she chants magic furiously. I smiled.
“You won’t be able to finish the circle without your friends, you know~?”
She turned around, as soon as she saw me, she started chanting fire magic.
“Nope!”
I threw the knives at her throat to interrupt the chant and delivered a kick to drive it in. She fell and blood gushed out like a fountain as I saw her cough up blood. Blood splattered on my dress, my face and my bangs.
“Eww! Can’t people here die without leaving a mess?!”
My voice echoed through the empty corridor while someone called my name in my head.
[Nadi, are you done?]
It was big brother’s voice. He sounded like he didn’t even broke a sweat, while I had blood splattered all over my face.
“Yup, I’m done. Just a little messy, but done.”
I answered wiping myself with my handkerchief I wet with water.
[Good, I’m coming to you. Did you see Li?]
“Oh right! She went out to the gardens. There’s more outside and she looked angry.”
[I see. She won’t leave so let’s just wait in Mastris’ office.]
Yeah of course she won’t, you just thought of it now? Wait, in the office? I raised my brow at his plan.
“Do we introduce ourselves?”
[Yeah. We can protect Mastris better this way too. By the way, bring one of those staff they were using so we have proof.]
“Roger~!”
I took the staff from the corpse and walked my way to the Lord’s office. Not minding the commotion happening in the garden.
