《RE: Cooking knife》4. To master skills for survival

Story nearing its ending!
----------------------------------
I have been living with Boris and Thea for about a month now counting the times I’ve been used to prepare supper. During this time I’ve managed to level my skills quite well if I must say so myself. Though the progress is not really noticeable since with every gain of skill my blade is being dulled.
Already fearing the Day of Sharpening in the future I try not the let the fearsome thought rule my mind, I could only thank Boris from my heart that he wasn’t able to earn enough money for a daily piece of meat.
After living for a week in my new home I noticed that it is strange that I was able to feel it made me think how this is possible I’m a blade after all. You could say that it’s late for me to notice this strange ability but I was already used to feeling of being able to touch since I was born as a human in my last life so I didn’t think much of it. After a lot of thinking I concluded that what I could feel was not something materialistic but more something similar to energy, I named it internal energy.
Since I know I could feel this ‘internal energy’ I thought that there is a possibility that I can use or manipulate it in order to improve my cutting skills or even to regain my lost cooking skills. This idea cheered me up a lot especially since I was feeling a bit down from all the beatings Thea gave me. The minor chance of using this energy to prevent myself from losing durability made me commit myself with all of my mind and ‘body’, trust me the beating didn’t hurt any less.
I first tried to manipulate every food that came within my touch, because the time that my blade touches the food is such a short time I will need to use every opportunity and all of my concentration in order to advance my study. There was of course the option to manipulate the internal energy of owner-san since he was holding me all the time, but since there is a chance that they will notice the strange behavior of their knife(me) it could result in selling me off to some creepy guys for some nice pocket money. Something I absolutely don’t want, it could destroy any chance of me cooking ever again and that is a risk I don’t want to take.

I had also thought about manipulating my own energy during the time I wasn’t practicing my cutting skills but it was deemed impossible, my energy was different from that of the food and owner-san. I didn’t really know what was different and why, maybe because they are living beings and I’m not? These thoughts had been occupying my mind for a while, again saddened by the fact I was unable to ask someone that could speak more than two words all I could do was to leave the matter aside for now.
Though my personal energy was different I could still use it to the extent similar to a magnet, making me able to draw and push out the energy of the food. This took me two weeks of training to achieve, normally it would have taken me another week but since I was kind of rushing in fear of the reason mentioned before I was able to gain a new skill.
Minor Mana Manipulation.
You are able to move mana to some extent.
Minor Mana Hold.
Due the nature of your body you have gained the ability to hold up to 5 mp, with an added effect of mp degeneration at 1 mp/second.
By using Minor Mana Manipulation you are able to draw 1 mp/second from your surroundings at all times
Since my durability was 11 at the moment I knew the Day of Sharpening was close. [sfx: thunder]
I tried to focus all the mana I managed to gather into binding with edge of my blade using my personal energy, it took a while but I was able to gain the skill Metal Hardening.
Metal Hardening(active)
You are able to harden your metal.
Reduces durability loss by 5% per second for every 1 mp.
[It’s a bit OP no?]

Though it took all of my mana to reduce the durability loss to 50%, I managed to achieve 70% by immediately channeling the mana I collect from the food when cutting. It was still not enough to prevent the Day of Sharpening, but still it as more then I could’ve dreamt of.
It might surprise you but I was also able to level-up my skill Metal resonance in between my training sessions. I knew this skill was needed for my survival since it allows me to hear my surroundings. So I worked diligently and the day came where I managed to pick up the sound of the owners, and boy I was in for a surprise.
Small Resonance.(someone knows a better name?)
Having trained Metal resonance you gained the skill to ‘hear’ the sounds in your surroundings.
Area of Effect 3 meter.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I changed Minor mana pool to minor mana hold since it's impossible to have a pool without a mana stone or so I thought.
Knife-san can hold mana due being a metal but it isn't ver stable in which Knife-san loses it after a certain time, but it increases maintains it value by drawing mana from the surroundings?
One more chapter before cliffhanger end I think. adding a cooking skill and maybe a bit of murder.
Then someone else can make an knife or similar story of better quality! :P
hope you can use the ideas and skills I displayed in my short story.
Don't worry copy and ripp-off all you want xD

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
