《A World Beyond》Chapter 18: How Shocking

The grey-haired child in front of Hiro looked at his classmates and nodded. A girl with long orange hair raised her hands and began chanting a lion appeared before her. One of the boys, a rather tall black haired child, turned to the orange haired girl, “I thought you said you had a Chimera.”
“I did.”
“That’s a lion.”
Then the orange haired girl pointed at the lion, and the beast slowly began to grow larger as its head began to split forming two new heads. The black haired scoffed, “That’s still a lion.”
A golden-haired boy smacked the black-haired child's head, “Nick, shut it.”
He pulled two tiny shields out of his pocket about the size of a gold ball. The shields were white with a golden trim and were only about a few inches long, however, when he threw them to the air and poured magic into them they grew rapidly in size and felt to the ground.
The golden-haired child easily picked up both shields despite their size and threw one toward the grey-haired child. The grey-haired child looked at his fellow students one more time and signaled everyone to charge.
The three-headed lion hearing the signal, roared causing a bright red wave to echo out. As the wave of light reached the other groups of students it caused some of them to freeze up suddenly before being able to move again slightly afterward. And as the wave of light struck Hiro he mumbled, “Fear...impressive.”
Fear was more than emotion, but it was a magical effect others could forcibly induce. To sum up its effects, it made one rash, it made it more difficult to think, it could cause some to freeze up, and it could cause people to enter a prolonged state of confusion.

However fear was something that was mostly used against weaker opponents, against stronger opponents it could only delay them for maybe only a fraction of a second. But that’s exactly what the grey-haired child was waiting for.
The black-haired child from early raised a hammer that even adults would find difficult to pick up into the air and swung it down into the ground. However, instead of causing any damage, a magic circle appeared at the end of the hammer and a pitfall appeared bellow Hiro who was immobilized.
The grey-haired child along with the blonde haired child charged to the side of the pitfall and dug their two shields on the opposite ends of each other. The two cast a spell simultaneously and a pillar of light shot into the air forming a golden cylinder trapping Hiro inside the pitfall.
The grey-haired child shouted, “Now!”
Then the short light blue haired boy who was completely silent until now shouted, “Lightning bolt!”
And then a flash of lightning fell from the sky and into the center of the golden pillar striking Hiro. Everyone who wasn’t busy fighting turned to the golden pillar and stared. One of the upperclassmen laughed, “He should have just refused, taking on five other magic knights is just too high a hurdle.”
However, the principal suddenly appeared beside him, “You should pay attention.”
“Ah, p-principal!”
The principal laughed, “No need to be so surprised.”
The upperclassmen bowed,“I’m sorry sir.”
“You should pay more attention to over there,” the principal pointed towards the golden pillar, “After all it’s not over just yet.”
All the upperclassmen turned to the pillar in confusion. They weren’t exactly sure what the principal meant, but then they slowly realized that even now the pillar had yet to vanish. Why? Shouldn’t that child have been defeated?

One of the upperclassmen eyes widened, “No way.”
The principal laughed, “It’s not that easy to inspire fear in children as prideful as these, yet here they are working together forming a plan like this just to take him down. You should pay attention, after all out of all the freshman he’s the one with the highest chance of entering the second year’s competition.”
And as the principal finished the golden pillar of light shattered and the grey-haired and blonde haired child got blown back. Hiro walked out of the pitfall seeming unscathed and turned towards the orange haired girl.
“Sarah correct?”
The girl nodded, “But how did you-”
Hiro interrupted her, “It wasn’t a bad plan, frankly I’m impressed you had a beast capable of creating fear. You’re probably a beast tamer, right? When you grow strong enough to control more beasts don’t forget to use that chimera’s fear-inducing capabilities. Though be careful, cause some people like me are capable of quite easily resisting fear.”
And as Hiro finished, he looked up at the black haired child Nick swing his heavy hammer down on Hiro. Hiro quickly jumped back, but as the hammer hit the floor, a powerful shockwave echoed out from the hammer and made its way towards Hiro.
Hiro smiled as he stared at the shockwaves and slammed his foot on the ground, the shockwaves seemed to enter his body, and he shot forward and kicked Nick in the face.
“Not bad, a magical hammer that doesn’t hinder your spells and instead can be used as a medium to amplify it. However be careful, you use the shockwaves from your hammer as attacks after amplifying it and as a medium for your spells to travel, but you aren’t the only one capable of controlling waves like that.”
Then Hiro turned to the grey-haired child behind him, “It wasn’t a bad plan, Lightning spells take a while to cast and difficult to aim. By trapping me and creating a cylinder for the lightning to hit you maximized the damage the lightning could inflict.”
The grey-haired child sat up, “You’re a real monster you know that. How are you fine after taking a lightning spell like that.”
Hiro laughed, “Would you believe me if I said I dodged it?”
“No”
“Well, there really wasn’t much I could do. It’s just the moment that the spell shocked my body, I bombarded it with mana and Qi before it did any damage.”
“...”
“What? It’s more believable than dodging a bolt of lightning.”
“But no less shocking.”
The blonde haired child turned to the grey-haired child, “Did you just make a really bad pun?”
