《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 27

(Aug 22 continued)

When a berserker fully enters their berserk mode, they will lose consciousness and they will become like a wild beast. They are unable to think and will attack both friends and foes alike.

This can be both a good thing and a bad thing, this means that a berserker will be unaffected by emotions like fear and will ignore all pain, in fact pain makes them stronger (Literally because berserkers convert pain into power)!

But of course, there are the bad things as well. The berserker will be unable to think, I’m sure you can already see the problem in that, they attack both friends and foes so in a team battle they may be more of a nuisance then a help and they are also unable to use strategies and will rely only on brute strength.

Using strategies or plans is a lot harder because you cannot command or talk to berserkers after they enter berserk form, you can only try and predict their action but even so they are extremely unpredictable.

This is why berserkers are a double-edged blade and should only be used when needed.

However when alone in a 1 on 1 fight, a berserker is most fearsome and its full potential shines…

Briggs in berserk form Vs William the giga brain wizard.

William must’ve planned this all out ahead to purposely make Briggs enter his berserk form because William didn’t seem surprised at the fact Briggs was still fighting.

Briggs let out a massive roar that could probably shatter glass with its pure force, and Briggs, while in berserk, lifted up his greatsword and chucked it straight at William.

Swiftly in an instant, William created a massive ice hammer in the air and slammed the greatsword into the ground.

He also jumped back and waved his staff around creating dozens of ice statues that looked exactly like William all around the ice field.

William created ice statues and he manipulated and moved them using his magic as if he were moving puppets.

Since Briggs was in berserk and couldn’t think, he would attack anything that moves and doesn’t think about he’s attacking, so these ice puppets were a perfect distraction while he’s in berserk form as it wouldn’t work if Briggs was fighting normally.

However, even for William, controlling dozens of ice puppets at the same time was difficult so they lacked much fighting powers and they acted only as distractions and targets for berserker Briggs.

Briggs jumped around smashing the heads of the ice puppets and he even bit off the head of one of them with his mouth alone, crushing the ice inside his mouth and then spitting it back out.

It gives me chills imagining what if that head he bit off was the real William…

By the way, I forgot to mention but Briggs had covered his entire surface of his body with a thick layer of his curse chakra to act as protection from William’s ice, though I do think he did this unintentionally and subconsciously due to the major increase in magic from going berserk.

The real William was stealthy running away and staying as far from Briggs as possible. His ice puppets were being destroyed at a face pace and he can’t keep making them forever, however Briggs would go on destroying them forever so at first glance William was being pushed back.

I have no doubt in my mind that William had a plan though… something to take down even Briggs!

Briggs jumped over and smashed the last ice puppet, William had stopped making more a while ago and so now the entire field was filled with a bunch of broken ice pieces.

Briggs looked around, he lifted his nose up and sniffed the air. Well, that’s what it looked like, but he was actually trying to “smell” the magic and chakra in the air to find William or any other living thing to kill as that was the only instinct a berserk knows.

He instantly snapped his head towards William’s direction after locating him and lunged at William with his greatsword in one hand slicing down towards William from above.

William lifted both of his hands to freeze and flatten the ground directly under Brigg’s foot causing him to slip and miss William by a small margin.

Briggs slipped and missed his attack by a bit but his greatsword still sliced downwards and split the ground in half, with black smoke oozing out of the slash in the ground.

Briggs stood up instantly and swiped at William with his claw-like hands and it grazed William robe and ripped off a bit of its cloth, but William was still unscathed…

If William were to even get hit by a small attack from Briggs, it may be fatal due to Brigg’s tremendously high power and if his curse chakra were to touch William, he would be cursed and debuffed so if he got hit even once, it’s game over for William.

William did his best to widen the distance by creating an ice path to skate on away from Briggs and simultaneously creating ice sheets below Briggs to cause him to slip and stumble.

During this entire time I could still sense the chakra in the air moving around unnaturally, it seems William’s plan was still in motion and everything is going according to his plan.

It seemed he had already long given up on using offensive attacks on Briggs, despite them both being an A ranked, Briggs completely overwhelmed William in terms of offensive attacks and frontal attacks.

No matter how many ice spears or ice attacks he launched at Briggs, it would simply be smashed apart.

Suddenly it dawned on me.

When I looked back at the battle, I realized a thick steam like fog covered the entire field. I could feel the coldness emitting from the fog itself coming from it as it continued to spread throughout the area.

I get it now, William’s plan!

If William can’t damage Briggs externally… he’ll take down Briggs internally from the inside out.

He turned his ice into gas state into icy cold steam and make it so Briggs will breathe it in. Once it enters his body, he will turn it back to ice and freeze Briggs from the inside out until he either completely turns to ice or suffocates.

Even if this fails, it will take up most of Brigg’s lunges and extremely tire out Briggs and weaken him by a severe amount making it a lot easier to knock him out!

This is… is this William victory then?

Berserker Briggs continued roaring and running at William without realizing what was going on, this only worked because Briggs was in berserk. If it was Briggs in his normal state, he would quickly realize something was up and stop it but since Briggs was in berserk and can’t think, he won’t realize he’s fallen for William’s trap!

William used Brigg’s own power against him!

I could see Briggs starting to slow down and become more tired as the ice spread into his lunges and throughout his blood flow.

I looked over back to William and saw his glasses flash and the edge of his mouth rose in a smirk. Damn, despite how arrogant William is sometimes… he really is strong and capable.

But it was also then… suddenly, something none of us expect happened.

Instead of Brigg’s powers dwindling, it surged and Briggs, in an instant, became even faster and stronger and seemingly teleported behind William and smashed him into the ground.

William seemed shocked as he spat out blood and was slammed into the ground by Briggs…

What the hell is going on?!?!

Why isn’t Briggs slowing down?!?!
