《The Misfits of Alter》Chapter 3.2- October 3rd

For the first time in a long time, David was allowing his eyes to wander about the world. The suns were starting to set, blackening the blood red sky. He found a store selling magic restoration items (something of no value to him, since predictions took a laughably low amount of his magic.) He even noticed a bench he had been unaware of until now...one he was currently sitting on, next to a girl that...well, breathtaking wasn't enough. Perhaps if her attitude wasn't comparable to a horse's backside, he may have asked her to marry him on the spot. "Um, so-" "Yes?" He jumped at her quick response. "...what do you like to do?" She pondered his question for awhile. "Being a hero, of course!" She laughed triumphantly. "Why?" She looked surprised at him. "What do you mean why?! Because being a hero is awesome! I don't have to sit around all day, filing digital files or selling restoration items. I'm free to kick demon ass whenever and wherever I want! How does that not sound great?!" She was gasping, leaning into the bench. "I mean, what's the point of being a hero?"
She didn't respond, taken aback by his question. "I mean, why work so hard all the time just to be shown how easily replaceable you are. Everyday, there are these strong, powerful magic users that fight the worst of the worst, and eventually you realize that you can never do that. You were born destined to be weaker than everyone else. You were born to be...dominated." he went silent. "Sorry you see it that way." She responded. "Hah. Apologies. I didn't mean to unload all that on you." The two sat in silence. "Actually, that's really pathetic." He grinned. "I'm sure it-" "I mean, you know the best of the best were the worst of the worst once too, right? They had to deal with being looked down upon. They had to deal with the complaining and the mocking, but did they stay weak? No, they didn't. They kept working, and after all that work, there they were at the top. So go ahead and whine about being a failure, that you'll be no good, because the people yet to give up will be happy to turn you into a rung on a ladder!"

The two stared at each other, and for a moment, perhaps they believed they had come to know each other, in some small way. "Well, you certainly are opinionated." Mindy's cheeks flushed red. "Oh, look at the sky. I shall be on my way. Goodbye." She hurried off before David could say anything more. "Goodbye." He smiled.
